Had the pleasure in welcoming Doc to Riverdance on the Thames in 2012. Ha came on the boat need to be at southbank for midday on a sunday,the Thames that dayy was ruff and choppy. He hadnt played pre 94 vinyl set for around 10 year and like a last action hero steps up and blew us all away. And a absolutely unassuming down to earth fella. Keep pushing lads ⛴🙂

End of '92 was mad when Nasty Habits and Terminator dropped. Fucked off the happy piano riffs and chipmunk vocals, which I was super happy about as I quickly grew to hate that shit! 93 kicking off with Journey From the Light was even more insane for me as an 18 year old. Reinforced was on fire back then and the whole crew of affiliates were popping off. Thanks for this enlightening conversation!!! INTA!!!!

NHS was one of the first vinyls I bought.... the first time I heard Doc Scott play out, it was Rage in Leicester for Amnesia House. Egyptian Empire was reverberating off the corridors on the way to the main room, I walked through and Scotty was behind the decks. My life has never been the same since.

@Doc Scott That’s so funny he’s talking about breaking through on the London scene, when he already had a huge rep as a producer, Groove Rider was always playing tracks of Doc Scott that’s how I knew about him, all his tracks were hard dark tracks that were not only produced well but they also had the an original and right style about them. I always wondered who is this top secret D.J. Producer from up north, that all ways made top dark tracks. Then he smashed it on Reinforced, with him Nookie and Nickyblackmarket in that exact order as artist they were putting out the best tracks on that label at the time, which also made it hard for me to be happy with myself in music production on the Reinforced label....😳🧐🤣

I was listening to Timeless the other week. Haven't heard it in a long time. One thing that came to mind was how much the feel and atmosphere it created reminded me of Burial's first LP. It has that same weird melancholia at its heart to my ears. Not saying they sound the same, but they evoke the same feelings in my head.

The one thing i've notice about Goldie interviews, either he's getting interviewed or vice versa, is its never a quick 10min interview it's always about 40-45min long. He doesn't answer questions with a yes or no it's always a 10min proper deep answer!!! So whenever ya start watching a Goldie interview get a drink n strap in cause it's gonna get deep .............................................. just like the D&B on Metalheadz lol!!!

@GOLDIE I had the privilege of going to your place and to the Living Dream Studio, which was a simple setup, that producer was a black guy quite lean and ripped, and he was not afraid of taking chemicals in his lab when producing, to help reflect emotional output needed to create tracks with strong feelings, for an audience to feel. He had such a raw dub sound with breaks that weren’t tight, but it worked for Mount Everest climber Chris Bonington Snow Man and Right Bullet Right Time tracks that were strong grooves that had the wall of sound......⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It sounds like everyone is in a hurry and it shows. Same old breaks with no innovation or drive to flip the breaks that created this sound. That's why headz stands out and has Lasted this long
@Cosmikh0bo
@Cosmikh0bo 3 года назад
Well the other side, have you tried sampling? It ain't easy finding fresh stuff with the scene and stuff being around for 20-50 years, even more basically if you go down the jazz track. But in a sense I get it, I don't like the kick snare-kick snare beat they got going on nowadays mostly. I preferred the days of 2-3 beats interlaced with tambourines etc., so in this sense I can relate to what you're saying. And for me, amen beat always lits me on fire. It has this something unparallel.
@davidleasterlingjr2038
@davidleasterlingjr2038 3 года назад
@@Cosmikh0bo sampling is the only way to go. I sample everything. If something sticks out to me in a piece of music then I grab it. All genres except country music is on the menu. Sometimes I'll spend a whole session sampling. Don't get me wrong. Dnb is my soul. I love a lot of the foundational breaks that built the more shuffling sound from the 90"s Layering different breaks and sounds. That's what I attempt to do but in a innovative way. That is what I was trying to get at is you mostly hear people throwing those breaks in without style or a new way hear them. It frustrating and shows a laziness among alot of producers that want to hurry up with a song instead putting in the time to make it into something that lasts. I agree that the kick snare popcorn sound is not a good representation of what happened back then. Or innovative for that matter. Its kids short attention span .There are some cats using the breaks creatively. Mako and dlr have done them justice. Along with some others.
@Cosmikh0bo

@@davidleasterlingjr2038 Thanks for the insight, i'll check these artists :D I mean I don't sample per se, but when it comes to drums and percussions, I've been playing all sorts of rhytm instruments for over 2 decades. So yeah, I feel the beats even too deep sometimes!

Who knows where the fuck drum and bass would be without metalheadz. Bout the only thing keeping me listening to drum n bass At this point. Everything else sounds lazy as if its made to please the listener instead of the musician who made it! Should be about expression of life at that moment. Clones and copy cats. Originality far and few between. Peace and love
