Daddy got a new toy, you enjoy it my friend and please be careful. And choose your ride times wisely. And your routes too. I don't have to say it you already know.
I agree. I have just decided to buy this bike myself, and a few things I noticed looking at the BMW K1200LT, and the HD, THIS SHOULD HAVE ABS standard! The fairing is so big that highway pegs hurt your calves (on the faring). The reverse gear is by far in the best location (and it has one unlike the HD I was looking at). It is easy to surreptitiously put that in reverse and just back up. The BMW you have to throw this big lever. SHOULD HAVE electronic windscreen like the BMW + Center Stand
Got a Goldwing after driving my Concours through a deer last year. (They really do break in half if you hit them hard). What a great bike. I never want a bike without cruse control again. Its not as zippy as a sport touring bike, doest not have as much range, and does not get as good mileage but its oh so much more comfy and super stable on the highway. Nice to have tunes when I am riding as well. Having five speeds its not a problem as it pulls lower rpm in 5th gear than my sport touring pulled in 5th gear. I think it would be better if the reverse was connected to the engine instead of the starter motor. I would also like to see a power windshield but its not a big deal. The back seat is very comfy for my wife compared to all of my other bikes .
IMHO, because I have been recently making the same decision... Go with the wing. The longer wheel base makes the ride much more pleasant, and it does the twisties better. Another thing that I personally feel is the GL1800 has noticeably better seat comfort. Both have a lot of upgrades you can do, which is nice, but the GL1800 has more support (ironically) in a dealer network than does Harley. The Harley just plain drags the pegs too easily, even to the point that going on the round-about.
I got a 2002 just like it, bought it this summer... Already put 500 miles on it... Yeah they have a lot of torque, they can get up and go... I bought mine yellow because it was safe color for others to see your bike... But other cars still cut in front of you even though your bike is yellow...
My wife and I have that same bike color and abs navi. Put 36000 miles on it in two years. Took it to the dragon in Tennessee and loved every turn. We took it to Colorado and drove in the rockies. One finger front brake stops the rear wheel skid. Fast way to lowside your wing mashing your rear brake, that's why you have ABS. Practice in a parking lot before you need to on the road.
Nice! I'm going to check one out tomorrow. How was the turning with the front not following? ie; headlight staying straight and you're turning the handle bars?
There is a handlebar adjustment. Shims and new bolts can move the bar up, back, and in...whatever you need. Strange, but I think all motorcycles require one to lift a foot to put it in gear. OR, you can put it in gear, then let your passenger get on. In fifty years of riding, I've never fallen over with a passenger while trying to put the bike in gear. LOL...Floorboards and foot rests and peg adjustments are available. There are 'reverse onto' and 'ride off of' centerstands. Baker built..
"Better not do that with me on there." That line was enough for me to have deleted this video. I never would have posted it on youtube, ...."Mr MotorcycleRider."
HA HA HA !! This is funny !! Yeah, listen to this guy !! For you that don't know, it's the most comfortable long haul bike, period!! It's super balanced, for very little weight is felt. Been Coast to coast, twice, on mine, and only needed tire and oil changes !! Low tech. huh ? AND YOU ON THE BIKE , GET lessons !!!!!
Mr. Schuschel: You pushed the envelope just a little bit. Still, you rode in control. And as judgmental as some comments have been, all I see is a kid having fun with his new toy. I hope it's still enjoyable now that it's more than a year-and-a-half since your video's upload.
Yes, I should be wearing a helmet. I always wear full safety gear. No excuses. Bad judgement. It's a 2010, no ABS. $3000 for ABS that should be standard. What is dangerous on this bike is the manual shifter that requires one to lift the left leg to get in gear and move. You are very vulnerable during this maneuver. If the passenger shifts weight, it could get ugly. 1800 CCs and 1300 loaded lbs, should have better controls. Also, no handlebar or footrest adjustment. BMW has reverse.
.Traxxion has finally issued a recall on their leaking Goldwing shocks. The dirty bastards have been lying about the problem for years. I wish I would have bought the Progressive suspension first.
Great bike, but I get a little buffeting on the head, so I must upgrade the windshield to a taller version, otherwise I love the bike. Great on-deamand power, and it is smooth. Can easily accellerate despite being in a gear too low (numerically higher) without concern. Can not wait to find that perfect one for me. I really like the Yellow color as well. Everything is going Hi-Viz for me, so that bike is the perfect one now! Regards, and cheers
He knows nothing about Goldwings! Yes, they do have rear wheel ABS and linked braking. Regardless if you use the rear brake pedal, you still get brake pressure to the rear wheel through a linkage system on the front wheel. There is a recall on that master cylinder that takes care of that part of the system.
And boots, gloves, jacket, moto pants etc... but we all have different skill levels, expectations and ideas of what we need as far as safety equipment goes. Otherwise everyone would drive a car. :)
Wife crapped self when he humped the bump. Guy had to go further down almost out of sight to make sure he didn't crap himself and get his composure back. Haha... also, are you sure this isn't Tommy Chong instead of Dietrich?
Why wouldn't you wear a helmet while riding on this video ? It is not at all safe to ride without one. Also, it is good to put a bit of speed on as this is a heavy bike and needs to have some momentum specially while turning otherwise you could easily drop the bike. A very good video for you would be "Ride like a Pro" if you have,t seen it already and practiced the manuevers. It approved my skills quite a lot when I ride my Goldwing.
Just think it would be smarter for you to wear ALL YOUR GEAR when your testing the bike out. It's new to you and you don't know it's limitations and yet your gunning it on a public road with streets coming in from the side and other traffic..just saying I would re-think that.....nice ride though I have a 2010 black one...awesome bikes.
+Alex Alexander Hey Baldy, buy some REAL motorcycle gear, and give that yapping slag back her bitch jeans. You're the typical CLUELESS dolt that gives the Goldwing rider a bad name....
Not qualified to "test" . I would have never posted this video. The guy has nearly 0 riding skills, obvious by the speed bump acceleration and braking.
stop speaking rubbish he has good slow speed control which shows he is good at handling the motorbike and him locking up the brakes is a GOOD thing as he is testing the limits. Only 'bad' riders, ride a motorbike without knowing its limit. Always know the limits so you do not mess up when it counts, if he was bad he would of locked up and fell off.
I can't decide if I love these bikes, or if they look and sound just a little too much like a giant 150cc plastic automatic chinese scooter. Could have died right there with just one bump to your head, but looks fun.
