Brendon your RU-vid channel content with Montes wisdom is becoming one of my favorite channels. Do you pay Monte for his teachings because he's on point and it seems money well spent.
Its always really easy to analyse what went wrong after the fact, and talk about how to do it better, but actually doing it is a different thing. Everyone has good and bad holes and even the top players screw up. Sometimes it´s better to just let it go and concentrate on the next hole, or next round
great advice monte!!! to explain in bio mechanical terms, the right arm needs to supinate in the start of the downswing instead of pronating. this allows the hands to lead the club into impact.
HI Brendon, Watching this on Xmas Eve in a cold wet Ireland. This video is gold for you. Slower lower body, faster arms, hands out while it feels like the body stays back. Exactly the same lesson I got from Dan Iteach in the summer. Happy Xmas and a fantastic new years golf to you.
This is such a great tip...I have a block that i sometimes hit if i dont square the face up but it's not that bad it's totally playable just not on target perfectly So instead of just making my swing I think constantly "dont block it"...and then it's a big pull hook which is absolutely disastrous because it is GONE...its a true disaster miss...this tip is great. Just make your swing and make sure you dont get the disaster miss and you can score well
This guy hits the ball the same way as I do. I notice he plays of 3 and I play off 6 so we in similar ball park (he probably just plays a lot more golf). Its great because all of Monty's advice applies directly to me! Some of the stuff on these videos is game changing. If you have watched the Malaska stuff then that is quite a similar start to the downswing. Goodbye to my card wrecking double bogey due to 30 yard push shot because of hips.
The good out of the hands is when the shaft gets to the 4:30 path to impact that Bradley Hughes teaches. Shaft is 4:30 to the target line. Club head up and back. Clockwise rotation of the forearms at start of downswing does several good things. Gets the shaft shallowed, club head up and behind, shoulders move correctly and head stays back.
This lesson is, absolutely positively without a doubt, the truth. If I could only use it to play 18 holes of golf with I would be a very satisfied man. Until then I will continue to practice this in the slot move. Good stuff keep up the good work!
Great stuff Brendon! Like yr channel and vlogs but like it even more when Monte is on! The interaction between the 2 of you is great! Grew up nearby in Lakewood, miss that place.
Hi Brendon! Been following your channel for a while now. Great content! I love this video, I really think this will help you eliminate the path going very left from time to time. Looking forward to see your progression on this! Merry christmas!
Stumbled over this oldie but goody with Monty. He's demonstrating the hands out approach which is classic Bradley Hughes. Now that Brendon Todd is a winner by overcoming some crazy swing issues both physically & mentally, we are hoping you'll pay a visit to Brad as I'm sure several of us long time BBB watchers are big fans.
arm swing illusion on wrx is what you need ... I can see you setting earlier like Chris Ryan suggested ... but it's still massively whipped to the inside. ie your across the line, then steepens on the way down to get the club in front. use the arm swing illusion feel to get more of a laid off feel at the top. that's just my opinion... cool video BTW, monte is a great instructor & communicator.
your hip turn is way to quick your right heel is off the ground well before impact, plus your shoulder tilt instead of turning through impact and your stuck beyond stuck...slowwwwww it down...waaaaaay better at the end great job! The single most tell for you that your doing it right is watching your back foot staying flat at impact, this prevents your hips from whipping ...watch your last shot and look at your right foot at impact, its a huge change.
Hi Brendon, I've been sharing your trials and tribulations for a few months now. We have few similar issues, and I've been helped hugely by Montie's "no turn cast drill." Keep up the good work, but can I ask you one question? - You lift your right heel in the downswing - this seems to be the biggest cause of the "big misses." Are you actively trying to keep your heel down and roll the right foot inwards? High hands at impact can also be a cause of slice / pull issues - Mark Cossfield has some great "live lesson" v-logs on this subject.
+wwwTripper You're right when I hit bad shots the heel comes up very early but keeping the heel down longer doesn't necessarily make my shots better. Going early with my upper body helps.
+BE BETTER GOLF I'm following the progress and hope you get there. Monte's dislike of the "one swing fits all" teaching is shown up perfectly here as we have similar misses - slices and pulls - and the thoughts to improve are different. For me, the feeling of keeping my right heel down helps stop my hips coming forwards, and keeps the hands lower.
a good simple thought for this, along with being sure to swing the arms up and down, is to try to hit the ball with the torso still facing the target line, behind the ball. Promotes a good inside path, without the spin out.
The first miss the shoulders are working more around and in the second they are more vertical. Getting deep is trouble, you just need more right lateral bend and pull the left hip back so you have room for the club. Pulling with the right elbow. Check out Victor Rodriguez or Kelvin Miyahiras stuff. Love Monte though!
+Jer H Check out Victors video called "how to build the perfect backswing"...Don't mind the quality of the video, kid hits it a mile dead straight. Him and Lucas Wald crush the ball, check em out bud!
+Jer H In your backswing think like a swimmer doing a backstroke. That will keep your right shoulder down externally rotated instead of internally rotated like you have it. The right arm like you are losing in arm wrestling.
This is probably the best explained tip I've seen and I've seen a lot. Would I use this on all clubs including the driver, or would I end up taking divots with it, if you get my drift?
That’s funny. I was trying to practice release after terrible drive. Let go of club then regrabbed then released again onto someone’s roof. Had to knock on the door since it was a $500 driver. Haven’t had a moment since.
Great video, Brendon. How are you going about tackling the high arms/hands and lack of depth? Just having more of an awareness of where hands/arms should be or maybe changing something in your takeaway? Thanks!
+Jordan Warren I am working on my takeaway at the moment as well and it is getting a little better. If I think "Deeper" that keep the hands from getting too high and the backswing from getting too long at the same time. I'm taking off this week, I hurt my lower back a bit.
kinda seems like its setting up for a swing where the club is stuck behind your hands... id rather be over the top personally (by dropping my hands rather than moving them out)
I agree with what Monte is saying, but he didn't touch much on your right foot high on your toes and a high right hip (both in downswing) until the end. Big drastic change with those corrective shots at the end, right foot stayed quite and right hip didn't goat hump out; but then again this was an iron swing and not driver like you reference to in the beginning.
I think if you move the shoulders and hips in sequence, the foot and hit won't come up. It's a symtom. That's why he never tells people to keep the right foot down longer, he tries to fix the root cause. IMO obviously. Thanks for watching!
+BE BETTER GOLF Yes agreed, sequence is very important and getting it right with the shoulders and hips would help. But your slight over the top move, drags you up and over like Monte was trying to explain. So even if the sequence was dead on there could be a steep out to in issue. If your downswing starts more neutral or even slight inside to out, your right foot and right hip will naturally stay quiet until they need to fire. Just let the club drop from the top (right elbow into right pocket). Take your practice to an indoor simulator or flight scope or trackman, I guarantee your club path is -3 to -5 degrees left. This stems from the initial over the top move, which pops out your right hip and right foot on our toes early; which will lead to the shots you've been having. If you can get your path closer to 0 or even +1 ish, you'll see big change (and more of those shallow divots). But this does not mean manipulation at the bottom, it starts at the top. Your backswing looks fine imo. You just need to work your downswing down and out like you did more or less on those corrective swings.
Cool to see, does that feel though like that ball is going to be a huge pull? That is what it feels like to me when i tried it but the results were great.
I think that Brendon's problem is that he has not learned how to trace a SPL. See my explanation in this NGI forum thread - newtongolfinstitute.proboards.com/thread/574/monte-scheinblums-approach-ott-problem Jeff.
+BE BETTER GOLF Think of it as the right elbow getting infront of you. 70sbig.com/blog/2012/11/shoulder-health-part-2/ Does that make sense? In the bad out the shoulder does not externally rotate because the right elbow is stuck behind. 6:50 is no external rotation. 7:05 has external shoulder rotation. Let me know what you think.
+BE BETTER GOLF Ya that makes sense. As you load your arm up to fling the rock, that is external shoulder rotation. Another way to really feel the rotation is by putting your hand straight up in the air like you're in school and want to answer a question. Lower your hand now until your bicep and forearm are at a right angle. Now keep your bicep where it is relative to the ground but rotate it clockwise so your hand moves backwards behind you. That's external shoulder rotation and that's what shallows the shaft even though your hands are working out. Hogan described it with regards to his elbows. If you take your swing to the top, then try to get your right forearm and elbow closer to your left arm during transition, it is external shoulder rotation that allows this shallowing move.
6 under and he's not happy, 74 and he's happy. That's why he's teaching and not on tour. Tour players accept when they aren't swinging well but reaching the goal then head to the range after to figure it out. Is probably better as he's a great teacher. Very knowledgeable.
your takeaway looks a little snatch-y to me. stick your club into your belly button and then grip it. rotate until your hands reach belt-high while keeping the club in your gut. it should help sync the rotating of your body parts. just try it. teeheehee
