My dad had one club in my garage when I was a kid. A Wilson 9 iron. My yard was small so all I could do was practice flop shots with it. My favorite shot to this day and I'm pretty good at it, but I do use a wedge now. I only broke one window and dented the pool in two spots. 👍
But how many times did you dent or break your neighbors house? 😂. Actually that’s pretty cool and a good way to learn. If you ever watch the movie of Seve growing up, he learned how to hit every shot with just a 3i I believe on a beach as his family was too poor for him to get a full set of clubs. That’s why he was such an artist and was a magician.
I got myself a cbx full face2, 60 degrees. It's a whopping big face, nice for high bounce escape situations (my standard lob wedge has practically no bounce, so tends to dig too much in soggy conditions) What I seriously love about the full face is that I am able to give the "toe down" chip some check... those extra groves on the toe can really grab the ball.
Great video as usual! Really enjoyed you being on my golf spy. I bought a 64* in these and absolutely love it. Cleveland may not have been first to the dance but they are most impressive!
I recently purchased a steel shaft Cleveland CBX2 wedge in 54* with 12* of bounce and my confidence level has increased. It's a great club around the greens and over bunkers.
Mark, I would agree - I picked up that raw finished 59/9 wedge and it looks fantastic to my eye. Also, the stock, non-upcharge, heavy Spinner shaft, had some flex to it where I felt you could use this flex, on half swings, to feel that unloading into the ball. I move between 2&3 wedge setups, but like you, I think I would stay with a 52/58 combo if that 58 felt exactly like this one does - I think I've talked myself into buying it tomorrow. The raw, no reflection finish with slightly softer but heavy Spinner shaft is a win in my opinion.
My favorite wedge ever is my 60/10 Callaway Mack Daddy PM Grind full face. Huge face with high toe, gives me so much confidence to hit a good shot around the green. Why don’t these companies make more full face wedges, I love em!
So it looks better for you, it's not going to help or hurt unless you happen to open it up enough to use the toe, or you chip towards the toe, in which case it could help. I say that is a good feature, protects against inconsistency a bit and promotes a look you like. A lot of people play clubs just for how they set up, me included.
At my level, I practice flops but never try them in competition. I will go with the bump-and-run when I can, then go with some higher lofted chips when necessary, then go to very high chips in specific situations. Maybe at some point I’ll actually try flops in tournaments but I stick with the higher percentage shots as much as possible.
I would give them a go I have the earlier version of Cleveland RTX wedges in 50,54 and 58 and I like the feel of them, like you Mark I only flop if I really have, me usually it's the bed....lol 😉
Great honest review and thrilled with your progress in chipping. I have a callaway mack daddy cb. Full face, lots of bounce and a cavity. Love it. I did have a Cleveland cbx previously but prefer the shape of the callaway. Ps, your chipping video has helped me so. Thanks 👌
Hi Mark, I've seen footage when the grooves of the wedges have had putty put in them and sanded back so the face is like glass. They tested it against regular wedges at different distances and found no difference on the spin on the green. They did mention in wet grass there may be a benefit. Perhaps you could test this out. Just a thought.
I have seen better legs on a chicken.... lol....you're the best mark. I have been enjoying your sense of humor and your knowledge for years and always go for your videos when knew equipment launches.... keep up the good work and good day to you sir!!
Another honest review. I wouldn't be in any hurry to try full face grooves. I would imagine the advantages would be marginal at best. But the main reason I don't fancy them is I prefer traditional looking wedges. Currently play very old Mizunos
If I was using a 64 I could see it. But for my 58 and 52 I don't really see it making a noticeable difference. Certainly not going to make anything worse by being there though.
For some people, the ones who are more prone to a shank, the grooves flowing all the way to the end aren't going to be that useful. For others, like me, who tend to hit out on the toe as the more prevalent mistake, the full face grooves will come in handy. And the high toe should help us make better connection more often when we have to try a flop shot off a fluffy lie. I won't be running out to buy one as my current Mizuno wedges are still in fine shape, but when it comes time to replace them, I'll likely be looking for a high toed fully grooved face. Why not get every advantage possible?
Why do you have two different finishes on the wedges. If personal preference is important and I get it is, surely you must prefer one finish over the other?
Hi mark my name John Hoyn I like to now what you Think of Kirkland Wedges can you try them. I got srixon z forged iron and zx5 driver and 3 wood I like to get same wedges thang you John from Australia
I`m an old school type of player. I only carry a 52 and a 56 wedge. Cleveland 588 RTG. Anyone out there have any ideas about what might be the most versatile 56 degree wedge out there on the market? Thanks fellow players. Much appreciated.
Aloha Coach i play my irons 2 degrees up and am looking at the cleavland 56 wedge for 50 feet and less. Do you recommend doing 2 degrees up or keep it standard lie? Thanks as usual for who you are and all you do
I have been looking at full face wedges for some time now, just not sure if it is just hype or not. Seems to be flop shot specialist which I don't try very often on the course.
I have a 60* Cleveland CBX full face and I love it. I use it all around the green. Feels solid and it helps me get up and down from all sorts of places.
Have the RTX Zipcore set myself and I have been on the fence about putting one in the bag. Mainly the 58, like you said just in case. I’ve found that part of the face on certain shots and feel like they would have ended better if the grooves were there as opposed to them not being. May even end up putting in a 54 as well, but that’s where I’ll stop. I prefer my 50 be standard simply because there is little to no instance where I’m opening that face up beyond a couple of degrees so I don’t see a point in the “safety net” as you called it. Nice review and glad to hear I’m not the only one who likes the way these look especially compared to the high toe style that is just off putting to me personally.
Unless you don't like the look of it (i don't mind it but admit that it tends to make a club look like it has 10 deg more loft than it does), or have a perfectly good standard rtx, why not buy the slightly more versatile option?
Just bought a full face 60* to blend in with my zipcore gap and sand wedge 👌 first Cleveland wedges I’ve owned and the feel is better than anything I’ve used before ☺️
Thank you again for the great informational video. I really have been considering switching out my wedges for the full face tech. I have a question for you please Mark. How is it out of the bunkers? Does the full face of grooves help funnel the sand away from the strike? Does it help out of the bunker, any better than a standard sand wedge? Hope all is well, thanks again for the great content, Cheers!
I think it is more for forgivness..... if you use a normal club where the lines dont run all the way, then if you happen to hit outside the area where there is no lines god knows what can happen. but with these there is no chance of that.
