Hi Clay I purchased 5 lessons when i started out on my golf journey 20 years ago and the other day saw Ben hogan with arms in triangle position and as you said his arms were much softer and there was a much wider gap between the two arms. ( I wonder if it was his illustrators fauld but it mucked my swing up a lot at that time Many thanks for your great deatail videos especially the smaller more suttle movements in golf like the hands Best wishes Tim Hayes

Clay, I just left a message for you on another vid (tennis elbow) asking you for a vid on how to prevent tennis elbow in the lead arm. This vid did just that! Great explanation of the proper positioning of the lead elbow through impact to prevent elbow injury.

Hey Clay, I'm new to the top speed golf system. I'm 19yr sophomore and I play on my college golf team. I have trouble hitting a draw. Can you do a video on how to hit a draw in "Crazy Detail" ? I know there's several ways but I'd like to hit one that involves using a different set up rather than trying to adjust with a normal stance, shoulder alignment, etc... Thanks

I think in your back swing, your left and right elbows will slightly be offset instead of level. It looks like your left is slightly higher than your right, even if you lay a club across them both. I'm not saying this is wrong (I'm actually proving your point) but this does help create more lag with your club, especially when you initiate your downswing.

Hi Clay Thanks for absolutely fantastic video! I practised it and it did really improve my iron shots but i faced a small problem, wherein, i kept hitting the ball to the right of the target and it was not a slice. Can you suggest a remedy please.
@TopSpeedGolf
@TopSpeedGolf 6 лет назад
Hi Samir, this just means that your club path is moving to the right and your club face is open at impact. It's hard to say the exact cause of this without seeing your swing but you might be getting stuck in the downswing. I would check on camera and make sure that your right elbow isn't going behind your body in the downswing. Here is a great video from the website that may be helpful: topspeedgolf.com/vault/avoid-getting-your-golf-club-stuck-behind/. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any further questions. Play well ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor

Hi Clay Nice video. what do you think about the "glove under the right armpit drill. Is it helpful to stop flying elbows. jay
@TopSpeedGolf
@TopSpeedGolf 7 лет назад
Hi Jay, thanks for the question. As Clay talks about in this video, a flying right elbow is not a bad thing. In fact, Jack Nicklaus had a flying right elbow. Many people won't be able to keep that right elbow in to get a full turn. If they try to then it will likely restrict their turn and cause the loss of distance. You just need to make sure to bring that right elbow back once you start down. I hope that helps. Play well ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor

If the arms are connected correctly to the sides of the torso and the shoulders govern the backswing how can those elbows get out of whacK unless the arms are rotating clockwise ( below plane)and thats another matter. KISS!

Is there a drill you have the would help to get the trail elbow in the correct position in the downswing? I am struggling with dropping the elbow straight down to my hip instead of it having come out in front of my shirt seam as you explained and I am losing my lag as an effect of this move. Any drills would be appreciated.
@TopSpeedGolf
@TopSpeedGolf 5 лет назад
Hi Andy, yeah, you can do some reps where you pause half way down in the downswing with the elbow in the correct position then swing all the way through. Once you get comfortable with that, then do some slow practice swings trying to replicate the motion until your at full speed. Once you're at full speed with the practice swing then add the ball. Best of luck! Quentin | TSG Instructor

What if you have a flying elbow and that causes to be across the line ?
@TopSpeedGolf
@TopSpeedGolf 7 лет назад
Hi Andres, sounds like your having trouble getting into a good lag position, and as a result the elbow stays high. I find this common with baseball players, because the use a high elbow during their top swing, but drop it down like a golfer does during the downswing. Here's a great video to help you with your elbow and to increase your lag topspeedgolf.com/topic/easy-golf-lag-drill-stick-behind-the-ball/. Keep on grinding my friend ~ Andrew | TSG Instructor

90% of weekend golfers cannot break 100 and they never will because they are weekend golfers. Discussions about elbows, knees, pinkies and shoulder turns serve only one purpose - give time on air for people who talk about it, it has nothing to do with golf improvement for the masses. Without these masses the game of golf will die. Tigers, Jacks and Arnolds come and go but without a weekend hacker golf does not exist. Golf is becoming more and more expensive because increasing lack o space for golf courses and pressure from housing developers as well as because the golf equipment is becoming very expensive, which is golf companies response to market saturation with golf equipment. The biggest killer of the weekend hacker is tension. He or she has to perform once a week and score. Harder they try the harder they fell and until this is addressed there will be less and less people willing to participate in this beautiful game, the issue is not the correct flip or the chicken elbow but how can people can relax before executing a golf swing.

Hi Mark I am not taking your remark in Clay’s video or any other video on the golf swing as negative. If any thing teachers of golf should take it as a challenge. I really do believe there is an easier way to show a weekend golfer how to play a decent game of golf. Everything Clay said was 100 percent accurate; but he failed to show a specific set up to make a repeatable swing. Is there a universal set up that will help all weekend golfers? I think so it’s just not revealed yet. Not a pro myself I am exploring and looking for that consistent swing myself. I know it’s out there. Thanks for reading.

95% of my Golf Club here in Southern Calif breaks 100 for sure, and most break 90, out of about Eighty entries per tournament, about 8 scores are in the 70s, and one or two are at par or -1 etc.. The really bad golf comes in the PM with guys that just don't want to learn really IMO...they have their ways, and will not improve with their motorcycle grips, trying to hit 9 irions from 150yds and some folks that just don't have any talent...that's not the majority. I do hear you though on what is the heart of the game; it is the average golfer, not the gifted zero handicapper....but Clay is one of the very best at speaking to us that want to improve. You should check out his other 500 videos...he's got everything from very beginner, to advanced somewhere addressed and is super gifted at explaining things once you get into really making your swing better. 2c.

@@golf4life357 You know the answer; Nothing. But that's about 2% of golfers...let's be honest. WRX source: 9 iron average distance for a PGA Tour Professional is 148 yds.. Mine is 130 with no wind...against a mild wind it's at least an 8 or even a 7 iron. I use my Hybrids quite a bit now (I'm 55 yrs. old)...and I don't seem to lose too much distance into a slight wind with them, I think I spin my irons a bit too much. Wish I could play more than 3 times a month to improve more to be honest. There are some young guys, and two of our Seniors in our club that do hit a 9 iron about 150...but even then I think most are hitting 8 at that distance if they have water to carry etc... Good luck with your game, it's an awesome source of entertainment for me...putting is getting interesting for me now too (because I'm missing too many LOL)....messing around with Snedeker's POP stroke. 2c.
