Thank you for the explanation. Now I see what is really different I think I am eventually going down this route too. Another reason to swap is there is so much more choices for wheels. Hard to find some nice A- brand wheels in 4x100
Thank you for your support friend, yes this setup keeps the steering arms and lower triangles more level, helping steering feel, turn in and bump steer. And like you say, more choices in wheels and brakes.
First of all, thanks for taking your time to document this, I'm planning a Plus axle swap on my TDi Mk3 and B4 TDi, and this helps a lot... Now, may I ask why you didnt go for the complete rear beam of a 5x100 Mk3? That extra antirollbar and 3cm width difference makes deffo an improvement... Cheers, keep on with the good work!
Thanks friend, the mk3 4x100 cars that have rear discs as standard have a rear anti roll bar in the beam and use the bigger style rear beam bushes, very much like the 5x100 plus beam, I haven't measured it but it may be the same one. I know the 4x100 mk3 with rear drums have no anti roll bar in the beam.
@@RestoDesignsnando I will let you know when I get my GTi rear beam side to side with my CL TDi basis achse + drums, but according to my years nerding about Mk3s, 3cm is what I found was the difference in widths...
@@jaimeromano8786 That would be Cool, so drum non anti roll bar Vs 5x100 rear beam, once I get a minute I'll measure what the 4x100 disc anti roll bar beam is.
Will this upgrade limit the max turning of wheels from side to side comparing to original setup, and would you recomed using your setup on mk2(for daily and some track usage)
I saw no noticeable difference in the turning circle, I think it works really well on the mk2, I have plans to use the "plus" setup on my mk2 2.0 16V project.
Yep this shows you everything you need plus shows the difference between the 4x100 and the benefits of 5x100. The rear is easy, The front which is the important end, you need to replace everything.
@@roruphotography Yes that may be the best way, but the outer CV joints new are not very expansive, the lower arms are also not very much, the hubs yes find used ones, the Passat B4 5x100 ones are the same, the only part which is hard to find will be the front anti roll bar.
thanks for the explanation :) i have a question though. My mk2 will need new brakes in the near future, and it has the small knuckles with a fixed caliper carrier. but i would like to upgrade them to knuckles with loose carriers, so i can get some bigger brakes. So the question is will mk3 knuckles fit without fitment issues? i have quite wide rims in the front so slightly poking out, so i don't really want a knuckle that puts the wheels out further
Thanks friend, yes get yourself some Golf mk3 4x100 knuckles/Hubs as they are plug n play and will not push the wheels out anymore than they are. With the mk3 ones you can fit 256mm 14" wheels or bigger, 280mm 15" or bigger, both are much better than the 239mm setup you have. Maybe also look at fitting a 22mm brake master cylinder which also makes a big difference.
