U have too remember that kite was on whale island with gon as a kid, and taught him about the bear cubs. And kites also a student of his dads, which makes him like a family friend
@@myrinnn9851 been saying this for a while but even though that flashback is important, what mattered to Gon the most was that Kite had found Ging before, remember that was his last mission when training him, so from Gon's perspective Kite is the man he needs to become if he wants Ging's respect, and getting Pitou to revive him would be proof that he's strong (and ofc what Gon does later in order to become strong)
You have to remember that gon also has a abandonment issues because of his dad so when he felt like he was making progress and getting close to ging with someone that had already found him he died
I see a ton of people saying things like "Why is Gon so mad, he only knew Kite for a few weeks" and missing the point a bit I think Gon is so angry because he blames Kite's death on himself, and since (in the 1999 anime) Kite is the one who first tells Gon about Ging and inspires him to become a hunter, it must feel like his whole world is crumbling around him. Not to mention it's also the first time he "wasn't good enough" to get what he wanted; his first time dealing with consequences. Combined with the grief of losing a friend, his reaction is completely understandable.
Additionally the death of Kite sort of mirrors what happened when Gon was little. Meeting Kite again was an opportunity to prove he wasn't that clueless child anymore, except he failed. Again he wandered into a situation that he wasn't equipped to handle and this time the threat was too much even for Kite. It's not just that he blames himself for what happened to Kite, he blames himself for not learning the first lesson Kite ever taught him.
The king and Gon are foils of each other, as the King becomes more human, Gon slips further into becoming a monster. The villain becomes more "heroic" because he cares about the people around him, while the hero becomes more selfish and villain-like because he doesn't care about the people around him
Kids perceive time different. They make friends for life at a 2 week summer camp, where as 2 weeks for an adult is whatever. Plus, he felt kinship with Kite because of Kite's connection with his dad and Kite saving him when he was a kid. All that, plus the horrible guilt he felt over not running away and causing Kite to lose his arm and he turned into a zombie lead him to where he is now
Gon is easily the most unhinged Shounen MC. You have to remember that Killua is a former assassin who has killed hundreds of people, and Gon doesn’t care. Even when he first learned about it, he didn’t even react. He’s just like “you’re my best friend now”
Gon knew Kite for months. Think about when the arc started and what happened during. Remember how many times it had been weeks btw what was going on according to the narrator and shit just Gon having to wait an entire month with Knuckle's bankruptcy on him? It's been months, Kite saved him when he was a child(they only show it in flashbacks in this version of the show, in the 1999 version it's one of, if not the 1st episode), they were fighting together in dangerous situations, and Kite sacrificed himself to save Gon & Killua. That's why he's so attached and we've already seen that he attaches fast to begin with, from the very first episode.
Just to make this point very clear although gon is spouting his name like mad, pitou doesn’t actually know who kite is. She don’t even remember meeting gon and killua before.
Your reaction to Gon's rage is absolutely justified because in the 2011 anime they skipped a very important part of the manga and the first 1999 anime. The reason Gon decided to become an Hunter is only because he met Kite and he saved his life when he still lived in his hometown, Kite is introduced in the manga in the very firsts chapters and he influenced Gon in a lot of ways.
Gon met Kite as a child & mentored him & saved his life. This anime is a remake, as in the first anime & manga it's shown in detail. Here it's barely a one scene in a flashback of him recognising him when they met again.
I hate to be the one to say it bro but gon knows him longer than 4 days and this is also a journey to find his dad. And kite is the closest thing to that while being kind and more of a father figure than his actual dad. I’m not excusing his words and actions but just trynna give you some gon perspective
Gon literally almost kills an innocent person, something that we would never expect from Gon when we saw him at the beginning of Hunter x Hunter, that simple fact says a lot about what he is feeling at that moment.
It wasn't only that Kite knew about Ging, it's that from Gon's perspective Kite is the person he's meant to be, he had already found Ging and became a really strong hunter, Gon wishes he could be like him one day, remember he cried telling Killua that he feels horrible being so weak
The window is lowkey deep. Everytime it pans to that it gets darker when Gons in the room when the context is around Komugi and revenge for Kite. Meanwhile when the King was in the room when komugi got hurt it was the opposite. One is getting darker, the other lighter. Hmmmmmm
The reason gon is so upset is because in the manga, he knew kite for alot longer. Before he became a hunter, before even leaving his home, he knew kite
gotta also consider kite met gon when he was a child. gon got in trouble with some large foxbears, and kite saved him and slapped him for being careless (like a father figure)

I agree with u bruv, first time I watched it I actually thought it was weird Gon went this far for someone he barely knows. Then again he is a kid, and it's probably the first time he ever experienced such pain.
Gon has met Kite before when he was a kid. And he felt a deep connection with Kite because he was his father’s student. He also blames himself for what happened to Kite which made it worse.
the director has since regretted the decision of scrapping the beginning with kite and changed it so that gon sees kite for the first time, in the end, it sort of ruined the scene, it could've been so much better if us too, were attached to kite as gon was@@chasecanty6042
I don't think its crazy to think they haven't known each other that long so why is it such a huge deal. At the same time I do agree yeah sometimes people are only around for a short time but leave a huge impression during that time. Like other people pointed out he did pop up when Gon was young in the manga but even then he wasn't around very long. I do think he left a stronger impression on him as his first introduction to hunters in general and also like you said a connection to his dad. He wasn't just someone who knew his dad he was the person who introduced Gon to the whole world he would aspire to become part of. Bro was deadass more of a motivational figure than his actual dad who just vaguely existed somewhere as a thing to find. In the anime I think him learning a lot from Kite and also like....being a kid and a kid who values people who teach him things more than most I can understand the attachment. Gon already understands Kite has played a pivotal role in his development even as young and immature as he is.
It’s actually sad to see that the gon who loved and was loved by animals referring to pitou as a thing, obviously I understand y but it’s still slyly heartbreaking
Don i think the reason why gon is so upset is cause of his memory as a child with kite. Killua knew kite almost as long as gon beside that one meeting. And to be honest it is understandable considering kite saved gon life at the time. Now he wants to do the same but he cant and feels powerless bout it. I get him even though i would be different in the same situation

I think Gon's despair is because of Kite's bond with Ging. I mean, Gon doesn't even know his father but he is SO AFRAID to disapoint him, during the hunter exam he risked his own life even having the possibility to take the exam again in the next years. I think is kinda ridiculous how Gon wants to be recognized by his dad, but I understand as a child's trauma because of the abandonment.
Well basically to Killua Kite doesn't mean that much, true, but for Gon it's another story guy is the reason he went on his journey he didn't knew that he even had a Dad before he found Kite on Whale island and he save his life from the bear
Yea .. while HxH2011 is a masterpiece .. one of the few, but the most glaring mistake was not doing chapter one (and first episode of the original series) as the first episode .. Gon is on Whale Island playing with a cub .. it's mother shows up and tries to kill him and kite comes along and safes him .. after lecturing him on animal behaviour and giving him a slap he finds out Gon is Ging's son and introduces Gon and us as the reader to the concept of Hunters.. he's the reason Gon wants to become a hunter in the first place and even knows anything about his father .. Mito doesn't talk about Ging normaly, so Kite is the only person Gon knows that has a personal connection with his dad ..they did it in a flashback, but the impact for the viewer just isn't the same
I love the writing here cause it really depicts gin’s childlike thought process and naivety. In York new he asked chrollo y he killed people who had nothing to do with him, yet here he was willing to kill komugi along with pitou, regardless of her being an innocent bystander(and he’s bff’s with an assassin). Supports what zepile said about him not caring about right or wrong, he likes what interests him or is good to him and hates what isn’t. Supports that fan theory that if gon never met kurapika and the phantom troupe interested him, he would’ve joined.
I don't think this is just "Knowing Kite" Gon never experienced death of a loved one, he has seem people die and killed himself, but he didn't care for those people Gon puts people who are close or useful to him WAAAAAAY beyond anyone else, this is a first where he actuallt cared for the person who died
You're judging Gon as a normal person, but he is a 12-yo kid dude. Kite was the person that first pushed him to become a Hunter and try to find Ging in the first place, but even if Kite were just a random dude, Gon isn't very reasonable when it comes to this situations. If you touch any of his buddies, he'll kill you no matter whether you are good or bad. Kinda hypocritical. That's why he got along with Razor even after he knew he had murdered people. That's his character. So saying "you didn't know Kite for that long" isn't a valid argument for trying to understand Gon's emotions, because he just doesn't work like that. If he likes you, you're good and nobody can touch you, that's all that matters. He would've reacted the same way if the murdered one were Killua, Knuckle or Ging. His mind is messed up, that's how his character works

I mean, he was the one who changes Gon's life. He saved his life when he was a kid, he told him his dad was still around and that he was a hunter, he inspired him to become a hunter e find his dad and all. I will never understand why the 2011 anime simply cut that interaction that happened both in the first ep of the 1999 HxH and the first chapters of the manga
