Gon Took This TOO Far! (HXH) 

Really hope that togashi is doing well enough that we can start getting chapters next year. His new tweet was a good sign and it'd be a great way to start 2024.

Everyone calls gon’s ability simple, but no one remembers the whole point of when he fought knuckle. It’s a psychological ability, because during the charge up, you don’t know what he might use, and you have to try and figure out a good solution. If he’s far away, it might seem like a paper, but as soon as you jump in, Gon might use a rock and obliterate you, and if you try and dodge, he might use paper and hit you from far away. The fear of Rock is so much you can play your opponent right into your hands. Gon only lost because he ran out of aura, and then because he was too worried about APR to think up a good strategy.

A manipulation Gon would be able to have some kind of support ability? Instead of inflicting his will, which is very much unlike his personality, inspiring targets in a paranormal level to enhance their own abilities and or get stronger as they get closer to him, leaving their will free, but rewarding with power through his manipulation people who gets closer to him

I think Gon losing his rod was probably one of the few bad decisions to make for the series. There was just so much uniqueness to it that caught me off guard, like how he stole Hisoka's badge. But after he lost it, he became pretty easy to read. I don't think it would've been of much use in the Chimera Ant arc, but it would've been really nice to see him use it in Greed Island (I would've been much more fine if he gave it away at the end of that arc rather than the beginning).

It's mad to me how well this dude can theory craft more than 10 years after HxH dropped (not to mention how long manga has been out), always new ideas, suggestions and thought provoking discussions

For emission I actually really like the idea of him emitting nen beasts which take the form of forest creatures that fight alongside him. If he really wanted to he could even splash a bit of manipulation to control them during combat. But the idea of Gon just being surrounded by woodland creatures feels so natural

Manipulator Gon has a decent chance of making his ability manipulating his own body. Pushing his body to fight even when injured, or hurting himself by hitting harder than he should be able to would be very Gon. A passive ability like the Trust Seed could be forming concurrently without his knowledge. He manipulates others, but not often consciously.

I always wanted Gon to enhance the fishing rod, by it self it was a pretty useful weapon/tool, with a bit of aura and the deep conection he had with it, it could have been amazing

Really fun topic, though I have to say- the thought of Gon slaughtering Pitou with a fishing pole is simultaneously hilarious and horrifying

Transmuting his aura into an animalistic features like claws or wings would be really cool

I feel like Manipulator Gon might end up looking more like Kalluto? Instead of controlling people, he used it to control his own environment to his favor in fights.

Gon losing his nen opens up the opportunity to explore the rare change of nen affinity. Post mortem nen was discussed in Yorknew and not seen until the Hisoka/Chrollo fight. Knov could easily connect Gon and Kurapika and have his Nen reawakened to assist.

I think it would be interesting if Conjurour Gon didn't conjure the whole fishing rod, but only the fishing line, because that would be the part of the rod he's used to replacing. Also through the restriction of using his own favourite fishing rod it might boost the power of the line and whatever he conjures at the end of it that much more

Killuahs interaction with the newbie eliminator was by far the funniest. K: Can I have another juice? N: (thinks: Can I actually give him another one? I don't want to actually perma end him...) K: Come on, don't worry about the laxative! I can take a lot more!

I feel that if Gon was a specialist, his desire to find Ging would make it more of a "Once Gon gets your scent, he'll be able to track you from [insert amount] distance." Somewhat like Wolverines ability.

Pretty good speculations I can see Gon having these powers. To add to the fishing pole; add a bit of transmutation to make the fishing line extra sharp or sturdy. If he is able to tap into manipulation he can make the line move as if it's alive.

I wish Gon could come back into the story, it would be cool to see him more mature less stubern but could use his witts more than just running in head first. Also to see him develop a new nen ability would be nice to see

I think it would be more interesting for Gon to conjure only the fishing line for the rod. The restriction on only using his rod combined with the multi-purpose nature of fishing line that can be further manipulated leads to creative outcomes. He would be able to cast multiple bobbers and hooks out while retaining the ability to change which "line" he was using. Combined with bells and vibration via contact with the taut line, he could track/trap nearly anything. Manipulator Gon also can be fishing pole based, with a restriction revolving around the fishing hook making contact. In fact, this somewhat solves the emission problem, as emitting from the fishing bobber is technically not outside your aura if extended along the length of the line.

I think manipulation could also move away from people, and go into nature. As you mentioned, he was raised a hunter and fisherman. I could see him learning how to control flora and fauna. That would also give him better combat abilities, something Gon would 100% always want.

Love this vid. For me personally, the most interesting thought was imagining the interesting way Gon would have fought using the fishing rode as a transmuter.

Great Video as always! One thing I would mention is that Aura Type doesn’t seem to be Random. For Example: Killua’s Family all have a pattern for Aura Type which could be Herediatary or could be from an individuals Character. I believe the Ladder is the case because of how the Zoldycks raise their children and manipulate their development. And if that’s the case, Gon wouldn’t have the same Characteristics and Personality Traits of the Enhancer Gon we know. So the Close Combat idea wouldn’t neccesarily always be the case. Oh and Hisoka’s Personality Test also sort of verifies my theory of course too. Essentially, The Gon we know would always be an Enhancer. Manipulator Gon would likely be an entirely different person than the Gon we know.

I actually wanted gon to manipulate the bear and cub from the beginning of the Manga and have it to where he can share senses with them and the condition being he takes care of them and maintains a bond with them so it's not so inhumane lol

Emission is not quite as bad as you make it sound like. As range is just inherently a very good thing by itself. It would simply be the most overpowered affinity if emitters could completely negate the emission losses. I mean what would then prevent someone from just shooting ultra fast projectiles from outside any en detection radius? The main advantage of en is detecting physical bodies and anticipating the consequences of their actions. Even for nen masters actually dodging (nen) bullets would be a problem. (Which I think is one of the main ideas behind Zeno's airdrop attack. Taking advantage of the fact that people don't look up as much. Ninja tactics 101.)

If I were Gon and I were an Emitter, I'd utilize my fishing rod there too. Make a Nen ability similar to Beach Boy from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, creating tiny portals for my fishing hook & wire to go through which wouldn't tax my Nen capacity much. Being close to the Enhancer and Manipulator affinities, I could reinforce the wire with Shu and learn to manipulate its direction and momentum. A fishing line that could appear from anywhere at any direction and hook you is kinda terrifying.

I have an ability idea for conjurer, it's called Catch & Release. The idea is that if Gon catches someone with his conjured fishing rod, their Nen is sealed temporarily. The " release " part represents the restriction that while the targets nen is sealed, Gon cannot hurt them in anyway. This suits Gon really well as it ties in to his traditional hunting skillset, his attitude towards unnecessary killing, and his ability to use simple tools in creative ways!

Just on the side note relating to defeating the king and royal guards. There is 1 person, who is dead already, but who could easily defeat Meruem and all royal guards. Baise, whose ability was 180 min love slave, when she kisses person, he becomes her slave. If she was alive, team puts her on Meleoron, they rush to the King, while he sits and do nothing, play Gungi, for example. She kiseses him, and King will not even notice or be able to dodge, because when Meleoron power activated, noone feels their presence, even when touching. After Meruem becomes her slave, she orders him to kill all the royal guards and then kill himself. Easy.

tbh i don't think gon would manipulate his friends to do what he wants, even at his lowest point. gon got to his lowest point because kite, who is someone he cherished, suffered because of his weakness. i have always seen the scene where gon yelled at killua as him pushing killua away because he felt like he should be the one taking full responsibility as it was his fault and that he shouldn't involve killua in the mess he caused. that's just my opinion tho :D

I feel like Specialist Gon would just make something like Emperor Time."Being good at everything" is both simple & meets his needs, the real question would be what drawbacks could there be.

Gon's Trust Seed manipulation vs the Royal Guard's loyalty to the King could create interesting conflict

I agree with transmutation and emission although I think he’d create different versions of either scissors or paper cause Bisky would have him focus on his 80% nen types. In transmutations case I could see him using conjuration to literally just conjure immensely durable paper that he wraps around the opponent to recreate paper. In emissions case for scissors I could see him taking a non-mind control route possibly manipulating nearby materials to form a sword then sort of pupeetering the sword with manipulation to increase the momentum and force.

Something interesting Liam didnt mention in this video is how Gon decided to use the adjacent abilities to enhancement and how if he had another affinity he would have crafted, it would be cool to theoriz what 3 abilities he would develop and use in conjunction (if i wrote that correctly) instead of just one

I feel like Gon might use his Manipulator ability to "make friends" with animals. But... I feel like if Gon wanted to fight, he would want to do the fighting himself. So maybe he could "Emit" his soul into them and control them directly...?

my guess is that specialists don't necessay do something that would be impossible in another nen category but rather they are born with an innate hatsu that cannot be achieved by others due to it's complexity for example a conjurer could teoretically make "skill hunter" like chrollo but the necessary aura to make it work would be way over human limits guess what i'm trying to say is that they are born with a free pass for a specific ability that would normally be too aura expensive to work

I think a specialist gon would take inspiration from kite. Gon would have a set of different nen weapons for each category (disregarding conjured and specialist.) Gauntlets for enhancement , a sword for transmuter, a gun of some kind for emitter, and his fishing rod for minipulator.

Emission Gon: just Yusuke Transmuter: I don't know Manipulation: Same as you said, someone who makes friends really quickly. Conjurer: Conjurers a fishing rod that if he can get the line around someone, he can track them wherever they go.

If you've read Jojo, you know that a conjured fishing rod can be absolutely broken

Anyone here remember which chapter the previous hiatus began? Now the story has moved forward I'd like to start from where I left off. The only thing I recall is that it was around the end of Killua's sister arc, beginning of the shadow continent arc and the last chapter was Gon's dad's fight.

Conjuration gon would also get the extra benefit of lessons from kite before his death so chimera ant fishing rod would probably be even better

gon learn to transmute himself to become invincible and he learns conjure to doppleganger himself

A really simple specialist ability could be something similar to Kurapikas dowsing chain, where gon can easily find the location of people like his dad Ging

ok fishing rod Gon is smth I crave now, like imagine the different powers he can give the rod, not just in terms of strength but more creative things, he maybe simple but he's also very creative he's utilize conjuration fairly well I think

I could imagine transmuter Gon using nen claws, little "scissor" for each finger

I like the idea of Manipulator Gon focusing on self manipulation. Perhaps something where he announces what he's going to do In a fight and then sets his body on autopilot to do the thing. Not dissimilar from how godspeed works for Killua.

I could see gone emitting aura with his fishing rod perhaps giving the bait at the end special attributes like heavy or explosive

I'd see gon's attack like yusuke's spirit gun imagine gon being pew pew at people like Hisoka

I totally agree on your ideas for Transmuter Gon, Emission Gon and Conjuration Gon. I think manipulator Gon would most likely do something with plants like Zushi. As soon as Wing explains to him how the Divination test works, he'd start thinking about other ways he can make Leaves move. He probably ends up with a leaf blade and leaf shuriken. And as far as Specialization Gon, I think he tries to create his original 3 abilities, the fishing pole, the nature manipulation and something special related to whatever happens to the cup, water and leaf during divination. Because if you are specialists something random happens to the cup of water and leaf that you're pouring your aura into. Like if it turned invisible, Gon with try to make himself and all of his attacks invisible. The reason Gon came up with Jajaken is the fact that he was good at rock-paper-scissors. It's possible when he specializes he turns the fight into a game. You lose the match you get knocked out. You refuse to play you get knocked out. Something silly along those lines

Gon is basically a much younger version of Ging, so I can see him being similar to whatever he is. Some speculate that Ging is a Specialist and I can see Gon being one as well. The way I see it, Gon would have eventually dropped Jajanken for another Nen ability anyway.

I can't believe there wasn't a YuYu Hakusho reference in the emitter reference. Spirit Gun would be Gon's emission attack. And he would understand as hunters have rifles.

For Transmutation, he could transmute his aura into plant and poison as it could fit his background as someone has been in the forest than it been sharp

Friend zone. Anyone who meets gon, loves him. Their abilities are then offered to help his overall goal of helping others.

Conjurer Gon could conjure animal weapons or parts. Fur for camouflage. Claws for slashing. Body type for better mobility. Heck All terrain Gon. Wings for flight and gills and tail for swimming.

It would be cool if Gon used his fishing rod for manipulation as a condition to activate an ability.

My thought is: Emitter: Punch with nen blasts coming out of fist Transmuter: Punch with rocks on his fists Manipulator: Punch that makes people feel some sort of way Conjurer: yeah, probably conjur a fishing rod 😂 interesting thought experiment, but yeah hard to say since he'd likely have a completely different personality if he were another affinity huh

Gon being a Transmuter or a Specialist sounds pretty cool

I feel more than hunting groun it would be "Perfect hunter" mostly because his main desire was to "Hunt" the wearabouts of his father, this could give him higthen senses for hunting, concealment to be undetected and something like some kind of nen tracking skill, where he sees the path to the "prey"

I like the idea of specialist gon being "Big stick real hard" where he summons a rod with infinite razer sharp fishing line that can bop anyone into the ground with max enhancement from a distance with pinpoint accuracy or up close (I think that hits most of them)

I haven't really seen a comment on this yet, but I figured we considered it accurate to associate personality with affinity. Not to say that gon would be an entirely different person, but in many ways, he'd likely be different enough that, looking at this gon wouldn't tell us how a different gon would behave, short of developing a gon with a hypothetical different personality in the same life circumstances

I dont agree with Gon always ending up a melee fighter. He started his hunter journey doin the hunter exam even the heavens arena using the fishing rod. He has great aptitude for ranged atks with control and timings.

My dream is to see Togashi bringing Gon back as a Conjurer, Conjuring the fishing rod with various baits that can adapte to almost every Hunt like u discrib in the video. Maybe as a non Canon one shot like an episode of "What If ?"

Maybe Gon is already a specialist, the black aura is the ability to be gain power from his future self. Which is time manipulation power. Granting him invincibility because he lives in the future.

One interesting thing that is aways ignored is using a tool aways help in conservating aura, if Gon uses his fishinghod to figth as an emmiter it will solve the nen loss over distance problem.

I imagine emission Gon is practically Yusuke from Yu Yu Hakusho which is perfect given Togashi writing both series

Im really hoping that after a timeskip in hxh gon grows up and develops his mind and goals. And when he reawakens his nen (if he does) he gets a new nen affinity, personally i would like to see a specialist gon, although his character doesnt really fit the category, after all hes been through he may develop differently from now on. Unlikely but would be cool to see.

When I read that gon was unable to acesso NEN, I thought "that's a chance to change his type so we don't see the same thing again". I mean if togashi live for 200 years and keep working.

Idk why but I love the idea of gon taking hunter to a new level. Imagine him being a literal hunter that has the normal weapons a hunter would have but x100000 . A rifle that breaks through any nen , and if it hit they are dead. Or a fishing rod that always lured them back in for what ever reason. Then imagine like a tag or something that he could put on the people getting hunter to track them

Rock paper scissors MAXIMUM! Specialist Gon I can imagine using the idea of rock paper scissor (RPS) in a sort of forced game, where, say, if he fights an emission type, his rock would do more damage to him than good, his paper would nullify his opponents attacks, and his scissors would do maximum damage, like playing rock paper scissors with nen types, all gon would need to do is figure out his opponents nen type.

I think conjurer ton is my favorite, in the beginning of the series he was well know for how he outwitted himself out of problems. His rod could be a representation of that. In a battle he could conjure a bait that he knows his opponents will not miss out on. Kinda like when he waited for hisoka to be on the attack to steal his badge.

Emission for Gon? I always pictured him emitting different lures for his rod and casting them out to hit that way.

I could also see manipulator gon taking on a pack animal vibe. Maybe he finds a way to make animals like morel does with smoke.
