Gone are the days of the 44m and 45mm larger Divers. My thoughts from a larger diver point of view.

When I first began my journey and true addiction to true high end dive watches all started back in 2001 or 2002 which if you are curious of the backstory as to what exactly, which watch and what movie I watched that before that no one in my family has ever introduced me to a nice fine timepiece before. It was not until .... check out my community page and scroll down until you see a photo of a Tag Link Chrono on top of a DVD of a movie with Matt Damon. it's a good read and totally explains the beginning to my present day.
I say that because the first high end fine Diver that I ever bought was in fact a 42mm. In all my 20 plus years of countless fine divers I have always worn 42mm and mainly larger and my average sized diver was always around 44mm to 45mm. As you watch this video I show you a 44mm and 43mm on my small framed body type which I'm 5'11 175 pounds and I have no problems at all wearing a 44mm dive watch. However gone are the days of the 44mm to 45mm larger dive watch. I find this most and quite unfortunate. I wanted to address this in this video and give my thoughts and I want to hear your thoughts.
Leave a comment and let me know what size watch you wear and prefer. I will respond to everyone. I always try to ensure I give a nice reply to each and every person who takes the time to leave a comment because I view your time as just as valuable as mine and so I always reply.
Thanks for your support!

Which is the Blumo? Is that the 42mm? Like the baby Marine master by seiko?

You know I just posted on my community page that I had been looking at the newest generation King Seiko Sumo in Blue on a bracelet 45mm that has been totally refreshed with slightly better case finishing and a ceramic sloping bezel and the blue texturec dial with a better milled bracelet but it comes at a price as I literally remember the days when the Sumo was around $400. I've owned the Seiko 600m Spring Drive twice. This will date me but I remember my first time I bought it I paid around $5500 brand new. Second time I bought the c same exact one again brand new back in 18 and I was able to talk the AD in a nice discount and ended up paying brand new $4 grand out the door. That same exact spring dive model if it can be had brand new today my guess is at least between $5800 to $6300. I could be wrong but I'm basing that price guess off of what I have seen Seiko steadily do since 2019 which has been about a 35 percent slow and gradual inflation of all their mid to upper to grand seiko watches rise to as of today where I feel certain they have reached the top end and I am guessing they may stay at these insane prices but seiko will allow ADs to offer a larger discount by the end of this year that will slowly get even larger into next year so their truly expensive Divers will be discounted at 30 percent off retail. They will have to. Left no choice. The market dictates unless it's Apple the only illegal legalized monopoly that isn't just allowed to operate as but owns half the US government so economics do not apply to apple. It's why I only have one apple product and began to boycott them several years back. Oh another cool Seiko I had was the Sho Gun. I actually had mine customized with a domed sapphire crystal. I remember when I bought it for less than 800 dollars brand new.

Wear what you like and you’ll always be happy. I have a 7 3/4 wrist and my most favorite watch is a Fortis official cosmonaut B-42 with bezel 44mm. I also wear my datejust 36mm, and on special days I wear my grandfathers Hamilton 24mm watch that he received as a wedding gift in the 1920’s. As long as you like what you are wearing and how it looks, who cares? Some guys I know wear belt buckles that you could eat a 4 course dinner on, some wear small dress belts and others no belts at all. It’s all up to the individual.

Lol! Love the belt buckle comment lol. That made me laugh loudly lol. Good stuff man. 44mm is PERFECT! Very cool though that you are versatile and are open to wearing a 36mm watch. I'm sure that's in part of its huge sentimental significance to you too. Thanks for the comment my friend!

The 42mm you had on seems perfect for you. Although the 44 mm looks proprtional as well.44 doesnt seem too big for you.

Thanks for the feedback my friend. It always helps to hear it from another's point of view. At times I wonder if I had gotten so used to the 44mm case size that my eyes may not have seen the real in truth so that's cool to hear! Much appreciated.

Seiko's Turtle and Cpt Willard ain't going nowhere. 😂
@TheDiveWatcher
@TheDiveWatcher 11 месяцев назад
That's the truth!! Well put and you nailed it. Those from Seiko as such Willard the Sumo but I wonder if Seiko overall number of units sold have decreased and taken a pretty large hit over the past year and half. It would be a figure I would have quite an interest in actually knowing because it would truly as you nailed it that the Willard isnt going anywhere and thus would be a very accurate indication of the larger watch guys out there. It's my best educated guess that Seiko has definitely seen an overall decrease in both the Willard and Sumo as a whole compared to two years ago. With as many 39mm divers that have literally saturated the watch industry, I honestly can't see how numbers aren't down for Seiko Willard and Sumo. Just like the 3 hand diver overall market the 3 hand diver number of units sold has got to be at least 25 percent less than they were a year ago due to the sheer hunger of GMT watches that again have totally over saturated the watch industry. So I say all of the above I do hope the days of the larger dive watch to just simply going through a temporary fad phase out and will make a "large" return and shall surge once again because right now for myself, it's slim pickings out there. Thanks for your great comment man!

@@TheDiveWatcher Nice points and observations. The watch world is cyclical. So, what's in today won't necessarily be in tomorrow. But you are probably correct, the smaller divers more than likely beat out the larger ones this year. Seiko will find a balance within a few years. Having said that, Seiko's Prospex line with its abundance of large tool watches will remain. The thing that hurts us consumers is the "limited edition" facade, and the pricing overall. I have a big wrist, where the Samurai is the perfect size for me. I would be devastated if it were discontinued.

Absolutely AGREED!!! Amen! Nothing against a 39mm dive watch but my goodness does the entire dive watch industry have to all stop making a 44mm dive watch? No but what they sadly do is they all follow trends. I do not. They all gravitate strictly where the money trail is. I can see that but I also am the type that I stick to my roots and I plant like a tree and to move me you better chop me down. I am every bit as loyal like that. It i tell someone I'll be there and I knew when I arrived that my life would end that I can say if they counted on me and I said I would be there you damn well can bet your life as long as I am breathing I'll be there. No matter the cost.

If you're actually going Scuba Diving the bigger the watch the better. If you just like the style then i briefer 40..42 . The biggest watch i own is the Seiko Samurai 44 mm. It's all a matter of choice

Most definitely. Very well said. I definitely don't fault anyone who wears or prefers a 39mm diver. It's all in the eyes of which beholds the watch on his or her wrist. I think 42mm is a great case size that offers the best of both extremes. Nice middle ground. Thanks for your well said comment!

@TheDiveWatcher 11 месяцев назад
Oh my man I'm not bitching at all. I'm debating a fact. I'm sorry you see it like that. Go back and watch my video. See if you hear a bitchy word leave my mouth or a negative degrading word towards the guys who do prefer a smaller diver. My video isn't to bitch because that's not my style. It was to explore a topic that is worthy of a discussion and that I believe is what you shall find in most of the comments. Contrary and ironically to comply with the bitchy comment you claim I speak how the hell do you think the entire industry is now selling 98 percent 39mm divers? The answer to that is because a lot of guys did bitch about the 44km diver being too heavy. Too big. My wrist is tired. My wrist is dainty. Those are the bitchy comments. Mine were polite and I feel sparked a great debate and topic of an interesting to all discussion. However you feel I respectfully disagree.

@@TheDiveWatcher Hey I am on your side buddy ; ) Love bigger dive watches and have quite a few. Have you looked at the Tissot Seastar 2000 Professional?
@TheDiveWatcher
@TheDiveWatcher 11 месяцев назад
Oh my apologies brother. I misunderstood! Cool deal. I'm glad to know and hear you are a fellow larger diver wearer. It seems that there aren't many of us left these days! Yeah I have always wanted the Blue dial Tissot seastar 1000 which I think is the original which I don't believe is any longer in production. I have seen the 2000 a lot and like it! If I'm not mistaken I think the 2000 is a little larger than the 1000? 2000 44mm? I think the 1000 is 43mm. Something about that color blue of the 1000 that I many times back in my day that I almost bought but never pulled the trigger on. The 1000 I like everything about it except the clasp is stamped. Isn't milled and that was one reason I never did pull the trigger. I see the 2000 quite a bit on a rubber strap. I thought I had seen it on a bracelet also but I'm thinking that they make two versions. One on the rubber strap is even larger ?? Another one that I did have and big time regret selling it was the original Certina DS Action Chrono Diver which was 45.3mm or 45.4mm. Man it was a cool Chrono Diver. I think I have a couple of my older photos of that one posted on my community page as a subscriber had commented and asked me if I had photos of all the many many high end Divers that I have had and look back and realize I was out of my mind lol. Man I wasted tons of money that I wished I had today. Certina and Tissot are two that I think are awesome but fly under the radar that you still even in this crazy sky high priced watch market that still offer a fine Diver for the money! Do you have the 2000? I was curious how it was in person.
