I used to be a regular BB customer. Like a lot of us, I sometimes picked up a late charge for not returning a movie on time. It was never anything excessive and I always paid it when I rented my next film. That all changed when they sent my account to collections for a small late fee, because I hadn't rented a movie in a few weeks. I went in, paid all they claimed I owed and surrendered my BB card. Never went back. Ever.

I worked at the Tower Records store in the U District in Seattle all through college ('81-85_). LOVED that job...had a great manager, awesome co-workers, and basically got paid to talk about music with fellow audiophiles. That was an great time to be involved anywhere in the music scene, but especially in Seattle. Used to get a lot of comp'ed tickets. Saw pretty much every grunge and garage band on their way up..Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam. Motley Crue and Queensryche even played in store....Man this brings back memories..

I miss Woolworth’s so much. During the summer, my mom and I would take the city bus downtown and go shopping at Woolworth’s. We would eat lunch at their lunch counter. My husband a I bought our first washer and dryer at Fry’s. And before stores like Batteries Plus, you could find virtually any battery for anything at Radio Shack. If they didn’t have it in stock, they would order it for you.

I didn’t go to Tower records that much but here in Detroit we had this local record shop that was black owned that everybody went to. I feel sorry for the people who never got to experience that feeling of going to a record shop and buying that new cd. It’s like a feeling I can’t really describe. You really just felt like a new person. It was also a very exclusive feel knowing you had that new album that people didn’t have yet. Everything wasn’t at the touch of your fingers like it is now.

As someone who’s worked for a company that no longer exists, buyers beware. When a company goes under (at least in this day and age) most of the time their intellectual property is also sold off. So these companies that are “only online” now are most likely just using a name, logo, customer contact info etc that they bought. They may look the same, but they’re often completely different owners with similar products.

It was fun getting to play with the go carts and some of the toys until they started locking everything up and then I just wasn’t interested anymore. My now husband of 20 years worked at fry’s when I spotted his love for computers and told him it would be a good idea. He loved it and made a killing selling computers! People that bought some of the things he helped them with would come back and ask for him! Later he was plucked outta there and went on to bigger and better things because he worked there! Thanks fry’s!!! We’ll always be grateful to you! Lol

I still haven't gotten away from them. I still have (and very occasionally use) my AOHell email account. It is the one my Gmail uses to verify if it wants to send an "is this you" email to me. It has also been surprisingly useful for personal correspondence since I never give out the address anymore and only those who were close to me at one time have it, and spammers don't spam my AOHell address. Old friends have been able to track me back down after losing touch over the years using it lol. Granted it takes me a while to find out since I don't check it often but it has happened several times now.

Imaginarium toy stores. My little brother is 6 years younger than me, but that didn't stop me from entering through the kids entrance. This was an educational toy store with a Toys R' Us vibe. It's a major loss, especially since there has been an uptake with STEM based education.

TG&Y Woolsworth Montgomery Wards Sears. Safeway grocery store. Montgomery wards you could order from catalogs. Sears and Pennys too. Payless shoes. Mary Kay and Avon was our Ulta and Sephora. Dillards came and sold cologne and makeup in the 70’s. Love that store. Still some around! We had Hastings and Radio shack gone. Everything was replaced with Walmart in the 70’s. Some mom and pop shops stayed around for awhile. Miss the old stores. My son loved toys r us! Block buster every weekend. Movies , games and treats one stop shop.

In 2001, they [Woolworth's] became known as Foot Locker... False. Foot Locker was a wholly owned subsidiary of Kinney Shoes as far back as the 1970's.

I come from Germany and Friday and Sunday were always the days when we eagerly waited for the blockbuster on TV in the evening. All at the same time. Before Netflix and all that stuff. What a time that was.

you put Pontiac, Mercury, and Oldsmobile, but you forgot Eagle and Plymouth in the Chrysler division of car companies. they were the two subsidiaries and were basically done by the 2000s. i drive a 1992 Eagle Talon Tsi Awd and always miss the time where these brands were still operating 😢

I worked at Circuit City during their decline. It started with cutting sales staff salaries which in some cases were in the six figure range down to around minimum wage. Then you could see the 1000 percent markup on accessories. Lastly they would find any way to not honor warranties but pressured sales staff to sell with every purchase.

I was PISSED that Mercury closed up shop. One of the greatest, reasonably priced cars I owned was a Mercury Milan. Reasonable price, decent milage, nice styling of both interior and exterior, very few problems. I would've gotten another one but the last of its kind was back in '10 or '11, a little too old for me to feel comfortable buying used.

Trader Joe’s grocery stores benefited massively by locating themselves right next to Blockbuster stores during their massive growth phase in the 1990’s and early 2000’s. My local TJ’s expanded into the empty space left behind by Blockbuster’s vacancy. It’s awesomely big.

I miss the sour Altoids. I was addicted to them and went through a tin every couple of days. They weren't made like War Heads where only the top layer is sour, they were sour all the way through. I remember going to like, 10 stores one day trying to find them lol felt like a crackhead.

I'm grateful that my home state takes great care of the last Blockbuster! AVGN (The Angry Video Game Nerd) made a special video about it and even paid a visit to the store with some of his friends. They brought a portable DVD player, rented a movie and watched it together.

I had a Mercury Mystique for a few years. Nice car. It was an upgraded Ford Contour. It had a few more bells & whistles. I bought it used from a dealer. I had a Zune for 3 days till I brought it back. I exchanged it for an iPod Nano. I had a 75 Pontiac Firebird. That one I bought from my uncle’s friend. $600 straight.

Toys R Us are in Macy’s now. They’re trying really hard to stay alive. They need to talk to their partners and strategize on how to make their clothes cheaper and beat Amazon at their own game.
