I hope the police officials who accused this couple of creating an elaborate hoax are fired and sued for negligence. They are responsible for slandering their names and ruining their reputations all while not pursuing any suspects. This is appalling behavior by those sworn to protect us.
They refused to apologize and eventually did say something like "Sorry for what happened to you, but we acted properly based on the evidence so we did nothing wrong." The police department us pay some out of court settlement though. Law enforcement is filled with and run by mega-assholes who will never take accountability for anything.

Probably not, sadly. The mere fact that they went so quickly into accusing them, to me that indicates a pretty low fuckin' level of empathy. Cops like that seem to get bitter and vengeful after being embarrassed or reprimanded, never thinking about the victims' struggles once. The victims here not only have to have excess anxiety about home invasions, but they probably have to worry about retaliation from these douchenozzle cops as well.

That poor couple. What a horrid police department! That awful thing is that this happens a lot but doesn’t get this type of attention or get any resolution OR justice.
Cases like this should convince everyone to be responsible for their own protection. Police are called AFTER an incident has occurred, when it's too late. In this case the victims were not only ignored but even blamed for a false report.
I'm not blaming anyone, I'm pointing out the simple fact that police are called only AFTER a crime has been committed, (i.e., murder, robbery, or kidnapping). Therefore, it is in everyone's best interest to be prepared to defend yourself with whatever means possible. Either that or live as though nothing bad ever happens, the choice is yours. You might want to look up the definition of "passive aggressive".... It clearly doesn't mean what you think it does.
woodbutcherjohn, I understand exactly what you are saying. I have an arsenal of weapons prepared for someone entering my residence without permission. They first have to get through my security system, then I'll be waiting. Everyone needs to know how to protect themselves by whatever means they have at their disposal. I hope I never am forced to use these measures but I'm ready. Can you just imagine how this young couple were coping with being wrongly accused of staging this abduction. Shame on the police. Even though the police settled with the couple, they don't admit any errors in judgement. I'm also glad they're safe.
She was still gone when he called the police but I see what you're saying. They didn't even try to find her. They just decided that the boyfriend did it so they wouldn't have to do the harder work.

I don't get exactly what happened (they seem suspicious to me too)... except he & his girl were broke into, duct taped up. And there is a girl called 'gone girl'. & is she still missing? Who is she?
I still am suspicious about this kidnapping event even now that I have seen many videos since the first brief one or two, but will continue to keep an open mind as I keep researching ALL the data on the case I can. The guy & his girl seem to hiding something... & since viewing a few vids on the kidnapper, I think he as well is hiding something. Perhaps they actually are... or perhaps due to their nervousness or some uncertain data, they just appear to be holding something back. If there is something hidden, I am sure it will be eventually disclosed or found out. I would be earnestly looking for any possible connection with all the players of this scenario... cuz I still smell a fish; something is amiss & I am never wrong about that... I sometimes have difficulty pinpointing exactly what it is right away, tho, but I can tell you... it's not just me being skeptical. While I am learning that my feelings of suspicion are real, it is often because they are related to the victims being 'portrayed as so innocent' when they are NOT so innocent... & I just happen to pick up on it, but it does not necessarily mean they ARE guilty of a part in having participated in this particular crime... it just seems 'fishy' for now. Not only is this case the most 'bazaar' kidnapping I have ever heard about, but so is all related evidence. It seems EVERYTHING possible was done to hide or confuse any leads to kidnappers... then, when officers finally submit to it being contrived, especially with a public statement given, suddenly a second, similar break-In takes place & a kidnapper appears, supposedly so thorough & methodical in the past using monitoring devices & threats, etc, at a scene of another kidnapping VERIFYING HE IS REAL, but DEFINITELY made CERTAIN to leave a cell phone behind with pertinent data on it to apprehend him... plus being his phone probably has "no documentation of any connection to the couple" of the first case??? Yah, it's so bazaar including the ransom amount, ANY GOOD INVESTIGATOR would have suspected them. Too bad at some point, frustrated investigators made a public statement to that affect to clinch a lawsuit against them on the part of the couple whom amazingly do not appear to have any emotional trauma at all from the actual kidnapping... just the police accusation toward them... a $2.5 mil in horrible suffering... I didn't see any of THAT EVIDENCE AT ALL yet. They recuperated so well, married, family, even quickly wrote a book... doing better than most victims could dream of. -and the guy in prison for the kidnapping plans to get out on a mental issue no doubt... he's supposed to be so NUTS, apparently can't bring himself to divulge the names of the accomplices testified to by 'gone girl'... so the investigators could go after them too!! Talk about fishy... Just wait, this farce isn't over yet... and somebody probably gonna get CONSPIRACY TO OOMMIT A FELON... probably 20+ years in prison, plus restitution. Yup... if it doesn't make sense, it's probably NOT TRUE. I am not yet satisfied with the evidence nor their noninvolvement in a conspiracy, but I will state when or if I am...

I feel very sorry for the boyfriend. The police that are to protect us brutalized him, Trying to make him into a murderer. Instigating him, instead of helping him he was treated physiological as bad as the kidnapper treated his girlfriend. His may get justice against the kidnapper but the police that brutalized him will face nothing. He will never get satisfaction. The police remind me of what you'd get from a third world system. He looks stunned and quite broken.
The girl was raped twice. He videotaped the assault. He (bad guy) contacted media AFTER it became clear that the cops thought the couple was making it up and TOLD THEM that he was the one responsible and didn’t want any credit for his crimes going to anyone else. That he was smart and that’s why he got away with it. Imagine being kidnapped, raped and terrorized and then finally getting free and the cops treat YOU Luke the monster. They did treat the boyfriend like a murderer for 2 days. But treated a rape victim like a liar as well. It’s all horrific
Cops usually have have bad attitude in such cases ..they definitely think husband and victim as dumb....but good thing is FBI has jurisdiction in kidnapping cases ...they are more professional.

To accuse a victim before you've even investigated a crime IS a crime! They decided it was too much like a movie so it must be fake. The guy was an immigration lawyer...I'm wondering if this case is related to the Sherri Papini case. Both blondes, both light eyes, both taken hundreds of miles away. Sherri was taken by women that spoke Spanish...If this attorney isn't being looked into Where I'd case, he should be.

And yet before all this, we blindly call these police "heroes". These same heroes almost intentionally sent an innocent couple to jail for a very long time.
There is something about this case that doesn't make sense, as if something is fishy or maybe just info missing, & since I have only seen two short news announcement videos of them being found innocent of something after being falsely accused, I must be missing details about the crime. The crime is not fully disclosed in the videos; I didn't catch the 'gone girl' part or the "gone girl's" part... I guess she was found. ?? Officers infrequently get it wrong, & if they do it's not intentional either, so wrongly accusing someone intentionally knowing they are actually innocent, tho... would be very evil. Investigators apparently did not trust the lie detector results since prosecutors claim they are unreliable as evidence. Occasionally too, young people will just look guilty of something... cuz they sometimes are... of something. These two both seem a little strange or 'out of sorts' to me; first time I'm seeing them... maybe they just smoke pot... or they're just naturally nervous types.
That’s the thing about the case. It actually has no resemblance to gone girl at all. It’s a case of law enforcement putting ego in front of service. There is a full documentary on HULU if you want a full and in-depth report about it……. Just bc you can’t find information on RU-vid doesn’t make this case “fishy”……. there are literally other platforms …….. especially since ABC is known to only post partial clips….. Edit: also, officers FREQUENTLY get it wrong. If you delve deeper into true crime and past murders/incidents, etc…… you start to see how officers keep sabotaging their own reporting by doing a terrible job…… Also, in this case it WAS intentional. They didn’t check the house for fingerprints or anything. Didn’t check bank statements or get any street security camera tapes. Didn’t even try to track Aaron’s vehicle on traffic cameras (since it was stolen). They literally heard his story and immediately blamed him. ……. Do you actually know ANYTHING about this case or are you also jumping to conclusions on ONE video you clicked on……???
