I hate when people are like, "You have a good life, a good family, you're privileged, so why are you sad?" That's about the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Don't think that just because of someone's situation that they are completely happy. "Just Be Happy" is one statement that can completely change my perspectives on someone. People don't understand "Just Be Happy" doesn't help any issue, it doesn't instantly make things better.

I feel like I'm preforming a play. I play a happy person. The play never ends. I keep acting. I'm tired of acting, but I keep going. I can't ruin the performance. The audience would be mad.

I reacted really weirdly when Jack said that he's never has suicidal thoughts. I just felt abnormal to me. I've considered suicide many times in my life, however I'm sure that I'd never commit that act, as I personally hate it and it feels cowardly to me- leaving the people you love behind and making them suffer because of your death. I'm not sure, but it felt strange when he said that. I wish I could be like that

Actually, I love re-watching this to make myself feel better. But, goddamn I just suddenly have a flashback from 2 years ago when I say "Cutting never helps" "What's the point of self harm?" And then at 2017 I did it. But now I'm kinda proud of myself for not cutting for 1 month. Also I don't care if no one reads it, I just want to get this off my chest. I think that part of why I love this community is how supportive everyone is. On other videos, I've commented, and everyone cares so deeply even though they don't know me. Thank you Jack for creating this safe place and thank you everyone for being a part of it

The whole “Reality nightmare” is very true. The whole “Comfort zone only being able to be experienced through sleep” is also very true. I’d rather have a never ending dream. Never ending sleep, than have to wake up and face reality and everyone in it. People are so complicated and I can never figure out what people want from another person or themselves. Do they want us to be ourselves? To be someone else? To talk? To not talk? To voice their opinions? To not voice their opinions? To just say Yes to everything? To not say Yes to everything? What is it!? I can never figure it out.. I’d rather sleep and sleep and sleep then spend another day trying to figure out how I’m suppose to play my role.. sorry to rant...

It's funny. How some people shit on This topic, Living a happy life while shitting on others. It disturbs me. And I'm so happy that jack actually takes people's thoughts and Feelings into consideration, alot of RU-vidrs just do what they do for money, views etc. And This really is the community you should come to if you want to talk about something. Because people actually listen to you, they speculate around your thoughts and that's the best thing about this Channel, the community we all built, This community is our escape, we go here to have a good time, some good laughs, and it's open to everyone. This is My second home, you all are My second friends, we're all friends, you're My second family, I can go here whenever I want and just be myself, and everyone else can aswell. I've dealt with depression before. Back in middle school. Struggled with suicidal thoughts too. Would've acted on them but I never quite had the nerve, for which I'm grateful. It was pure hell. So if any of you are going through depression, stay strong. I've been there, it fucking sucks. This is gonna sound cliche I know but I' m asking you to just hold on and power through. I know that life feels like it's just not worth it but don't give up. I know a few people are gonna look at this as be like" oh wow, it worked for this guy but he doesn't know what I've been through" ad you would be right. I'm not saying I've had the worst life ever, that's not what I'm saying. All I'm saying is that I feel your pain ( brother and sister). I'll finish with this. Don't lose that will to live.

I know how many of you feel, I've lost my entire family to a drunk driver. I have even broken into, what used to be, my dad's gun safe and held a gun to my head thinking about ending the pain, and I'm only 14. And believe me, it's not the answer. I've been through the worst and I know how awful and purposeless you may feel. Just know you have a friend with you... me. I know I'm not with you physically, but I'm with you spiritually. I'm not going to lie, I thought I would feel relief when I decided to put a gun to my head. I can't tell you how terrifying it was. I had tears streaming down my face, I was praying, and I was saying sorry. When I pulled the trigger and heard a click (it was a revolver) I felt so relieved that bullet didn't come out. I've never really told anyone this, as I don't like much attention, but as I've come to realize, no matter what situation you are in you can get out. There are people who can help you. The moment you think you're going to pull that trigger, I want you to remember this comment. I love my life now, and have never been happier. I can't explain enough how great life is. Yes it gets awful and makes you question whether it's worth carrying on, but it is worth it. Sometimes you need to find the positivity and if you can't find it, then make it. I made up a small quote, I least I don't think anyone else has made it up, "for every negative in life there's a positive, sometimes you just have to look for it." May God bless all of your souls. From my experience, depression causes you to feel empty and negative. However, I do have those moments when I feel true, genuine happiness. Those moments of genuine happiness are always extremely precious to me.

For the people who are broken and think that they are unfixable like me: Life is terrible and people will always try to push you down, I won't sugar coat things or try to lie, but being broken means that you have survived what has happened to you, even though not unscratched. Being broken does not mean that you are unfixable or unlovable. A broken object can always be fixed, or improved in many ways. Remember this please, and continue on with your life. Find the things that fix you and cherish them. The one you truly love, never let them go.

I think I get it, The game constantly says how you don't have a choice. And at the end, you don't have a choice, there is two doors but only one can open, you don't actually have a choice.

These kinds of games are my favourite to watch, The Static Speaks My Name, That Dragon Cancer, The Beginners Guide and all those are the most profound thing to me. i love it when Jack and the community get serious because this group of people are amazing and when we get to talking about these things we can accomplish so much. Its the common thing nowadays to just sweep mental illness under the carpet and not talk about it, so it makes me so happy when we can come together and seriously discuss these things and try to help each other face our demons.

I feel like these kinds of videos as what people should see when they are first introduced to Sean. These show the real, heartfelt, understanding, and... I guess, human side to him where he isn't just a youtuber.

I know this has been out for a while and probably no one will see this comment but this game hits a little too close to home. Other than the disease part, everything else is what I feel, what I've been feeling for well over 10 years now. Everything is hard; the long distance, the impatience, the fighting, the numbness, the thoughts of death. Everything is overwhelming but at the same time it's hard to feel anything at all. It's hard to love when you feel like you don't deserve it, but you're so greedy to have it. It's hard to forget all the bad things, and hard to remember all the good things. There's no family that'll listen to you, they'll only get mad that you aren't "normal". There's no friends that'll sit there with you, only ones behind a screen that can only do so much. There have been times, days where I didn't want to get up and wished I disappeared, days where everyone and everything irritates you because they're too happy, it's too much and you remember that you can't feel the same, do the same. You can't pretend it's alright because there's too much going on in your own head that you can't figure out and you can't even explain it to the ones you love because, sure they might understand to a certain extent, but never completely. You feel guilty because of how many times you never reply to their messages because you want to be left alone, to fix your thoughts or distract yourself. You want to be gone. But you can't, so you need to keep fighting. Keep surviving. Everything will get better, maybe not now, maybe not soon, but eventually. Things will be bad, and it won't always be bad. But the same goes for the other side of the spectrum. Things could be great but it won't always be great. You just need to keep waiting, keep fighting. This may be a message to others, this may be a message to myself. But whoever feels this can somehow make things a little easier or finds some comfort in this, remember someone loves you. I love you. All of you are strong, beautiful people who deserve everything this world has to offer because you fight for it, no matter how long your battle might be. I love every single one of you. And thank you Jack, for playing games like these, for understanding the importance of having this kind of content on the channel, for having your own input on these topics because even if you think you don't know or understand what you're talking about, it's reassuring, it's comforting. I'm glad that he touched on the fact that people who don't go through depression and say 'just stop being sad and be social' ect, they don't know that sometimes it's not quite that easy all the time. Even though someone who doesn't know how it feels can't really give good advice and it might seem like they don't care, when they really do. after a month of no crying, I cried while listening to jack speak. I'm trying to hide it all because no matter what I do, no one will help me, my family who doesn't believe in depression or anxiety refuses to take me to a psychiatrist even tho my school counselor told them that I need it. My friends who I opened up with started to feel the same way i do, and that scares me, the thought of it makes me think that it's all my fault, I should never have told them about... well, me. I don't know why, but I'm doing my best not to think about the negative things, I'm trying to be what they want me to be... perfect. "It's simple. Just do this, this, this, and this, and you will be fine." Everyone tells me the exact same thing, even though they have no idea what I'm going through. People who don't actually know how it feels. They believe it's so easy to get rid of it, but it's not. It's really not. I understand that they're trying to help, but they aren't. It's like a treadmill to me. You think you're moving forward and improving, but, in reality, you're just stuck in the same place.

I think psychiatrists give a more cold feeling and lonely feeling because you just talk to one stranger alone in a room, and you feel like that person doesn't really care about you because you are 'just another client' and when the time runs out you have to go away of course not all of them are that way but it sometimes feels like it. and then you have these communities that care about everyone and have the same thoughts, it feels a lot better than talking to someone you go to on a specific hour just the fact i can let this comment rest here and write my thoughts feels nice. to anyone reading this have a nice day and know that we are here for you We all are :D

I just want to say something Sean - I've been bullied, mostly by name calling and death threat type things, and when you say "if you bully someone going through a tough time just because you think they're an attention seeker you don't belong in this community and I don't want to be friends with you", it makes me feel good because I know that bullies don't belong here, so anyone who bullied me wouldn't be welcome, and it's a place where I can feel like I'm surrounded by online friends who are all here to help one another :)

Sometimes it hits me kind of hard when people say they've never had depression, anexity, or suicidal thoughts. I guess I've just gotten so used to experiencing them, that I kind of forget that it's not normal and not everyone goes through it. I mean, obviously deep down I know it's not normal, especially since I can remember a time before I experienced these things, but now it's just become a part of everyday life for me. Sometimes I just forget that not everyone is like that.

My mum died in 2017 and i was 13, i then found out my dad who raised me from me being 3 months old was talking to another woman a few months after my mum died, he left 1st december last year and then this year i’ve been in and out of hospital, diagnosed with coeliac disease and having my right ovary and right fallopian tube out, i’ve still not recover my surgery but you’re helping me recover and keeping me positive ❤️ Thankyou for being here

I really want a game that shows the bad side of therapy. And how it doesn't work for some people and how some therapists are really bad people. They should make it so you feel useless, like a disgrace, hopeless and guilty for even mentioning something is wrong. Being held in a place where you're the prey and you can't do anything except sit there and wait for them to force you to talk about things you're not ready for. You can't even get out of the situation because you don't have the authority to say you don't want to continue anymore. Make it so you feel like you're being looked down upon by your parents and the doctors you can't escape from. Make it so you know they are judging you and trying to guilt you out of your thoughts. Just a game I thought Jack might wanna play.

my best friend, levi (lee-vee) killed themself because i wasnt there. i was in a fight with her, me getting to mad to think straightly said that she should just die. we were best friend since kindergarden. my girlfriend is suicidal and told me once to forget about her. she almost died. i have been diagnosed with depression, ptsd, and insomnia. i just want my best friend back. it was my fault. i killed my best friend. my girlfriend tried to kill herself. ive tried once to kill myself. please, dont act irrationally, like me. stay alive, stay strong, stay aware.

This is not the type of video I should have watched. But I will say Sean that if you want to help just keep being you. Keep being the happy and intense man you are and give people those happy moments we look forward to each day. Just keep being the perfect Irishman we love.

i was rewatching this and a few of jacks similar playthroughs this week and all of them made me cry, because 1. i related to the characters on another level, and 2. how jack makes it clear that he doesnt think hes an expert and that this is a safe community for everyone.

Depression is the worst. You literally hate yourself. It's like your mind is trying to die, but your body keeps living. It's like losing all the color in your life, all the things you love and enjoy. But when you somehow manage to dig yourself out of that hole called depression, those colors come back, brighter and more vibrant than ever. The only thing that kept me from killing myself was not giving up on myself. If you're reading this and you're struggling, KEEP FIGHTING! It might seem like things will never get better, and your future is in shambles. But I promise, your future will be more than you, or anyone can imagine if you keep fighting! For those who suffer from depression or life problems I'm here with you because I too suffer from depression as my grandfather passed away so then from there on I tried to keep myself stable but then I snapped and I just basically just wanted to just end it here. But then I met Jack and you guys! Everyone here is so kind :) On the behalf of people with suicidal thoughts just seek help and just forget about everything and just watch jack!because if he changed my life he can change yours.

Despression is horrible, no one understands unless they go through it. You cant just smile, you cant just take your mind off it. Today is the only thing, the moment your in is the only moment thats real. theres no tomorrow, next week next moth to look forward too. Just everyday today is another day survived. Self harming is a way too feel anything, pain is pleasure when no other feeling exists. Its warm, itchy and real. Suicide isnt just to kill yourself because its too much, its a way out, a way to find certainty in a crazy time where nothing is going right. I like how the game made it optional, because some need the option to feel better because Despression can feel like a locked box and having a way out you control because it empowering you is a real feeling of . This is primarily how i felt and a few old friends decribe how they felt, they was getting medical help and therapy while i had no help, no friends, no one. Tip NEVER suffer alone, because its so much harder, I'm strong willed so I 'beat' it but friend I knew would be dead if they had no one To friends and family who have depression loved ones, you might not know it but you might be the reason someone choose to live. my ex gf said she was gonna jump of a bridge but she didnt for me, because she wanted to help me deal with. Tip NEVER pressure someone with depression. I lost my best/gf friend because I was selfish, and just a controlling ass. If you love someone give then space. On a happier note, I watch a video on a medical breakthrough. Scientist may have found the root cause for deep depression and who knows, it maybe be curseable in the near future.

Jack explains my depression really well. It's not feeling sad, it's just feeling constantly numb, constantly tired. I never want to do anything, I just want to lay in my bed with slit wrists. I have extreme suicidal thoughts, and as of late, I've been getting them at least twice a day. I've attempted suicide so many times and I've survived all of them. I hate myself and everything about me, and I feel constantly secluded, separated from the rest of the world, and I hate it. I do have a couple of friends but I always have this part of myself that is absolutely terrified that they just tolerate me and don't actually consider me a friend. That's why I always come to you, Jack. You are the only real friend I know I have, and I've never even met you haha. I'm crying while writing this but, just know that no matter what, I will always love you. You make me feel less alone. You're the one who keeps me here. You're my anchor, and above all else, you're my best friend. :)

I'm transgender. And I spent my 5 years of middle school all alone. Everybody hated me, were pushing me in the corridors, were talking shit about me everyday... I felt completely alone. I did'nt know how to talk with people and I was scared of everybody. I met my best friend on Internet but he killed himself two years ago... I was close to kill myself too. But when I went to high school I met 3 friends and they were so nice to me. They listened to me, they took care of me and learned me how to love people again. When I told them that I was scared of other people they said: "That's okay! Just stay with us until you're not scared anymore. We'll be there for you and we'll make sure that you feel safe and protected with us" Since this moment I learned how to talk to people again and to not be afraid of being myself. I came out to my parents, that was hard but they accepted me and I'll start my transition soon...

"besides cuddling a thin person is not that confortable and warm, if at all" being someone who struggles with anorexia this really got to me because people used to refuse to hug me when i wasnt wearing clothes that were thick enough not to feel my actual body, i'm better now but the feeling, the anxiety, the need to cover myself and run are still there when my body enters in contact with others. if you know someone who might have an eating disorder or body dismorfia, please dont comment on their weight or physical appearance in general because even thought it might look like nothing to you or a joke, your words or rejection can be really hurtfull.

I'm really glad you're a RU-vidr that's so incredibly accepting and play games concerning these heavier topics, and you've created such a great community. I'll admit I haven't been watching you for long, but there's something different about you. You're just so kind and careful not to hurt other people; it's really inspiring to see people like that, and I truly enjoy listening to your lengthier talks at the end of these videos. I can feel like you're talking directly to me. And scrolling through the comments and seeing positivity or other people talking about experiences makes me feel like I belong in a way, and it's more of a new feeling that I've gotten as I started watching your more serious videos. I personally feel like I've been conditioned by my past experiences to think I'm an attention seeker when I feel anything less than content, but hearing you handle these topics so delicately and calmly, while providing a new perspective, really gives me hope and makes me feel a lot more accepted, even though I don't know you or any of these people personally. It's just an incredible relief to be able to vent anonymously, even if no one sees it or responds. Just getting my thoughts out somewhere that I'm comfortable with is a tremendous help. Thank you.

You are so amazing Sean. There isn't a lot of people out there nowadays, that respect the stories of people who are dealing with suicidal thoughts and depression. And you are one of those who listens to those people with problems and doesn't judge. And that is what people with these problems need the most. Like you said yourself. Someone who just is there and listens might be enough to help a great deal. I myself am a person that had to be brought back 2 times because of suicide attempts. I still have my problems with with anxiety, sadness and most of all feeling that I am worthless. But I am getting better. My arms are full with scars from past cutting because I got bullied heavily for being overweight so I also deal with little confidence. To everyone out there. You are wonderful and gorgeaus the way you are!!! Talk with someone about your problems. Don't go as far as I did. There are many people out there that will miss you and mourn your loss for probably forever. And if you don't believe me right now then let me tell you one thing. Even if I don't know you personally, I care about you and Iove all of you!!!!

Jack, I think what they were trying to do is physically represent what one of the quotes said earlier… It was something about sometimes you can't choose, you just do what you have to. So… If you say your struggle at the end of the game out loud… "I couldn't move on."-get it? You legitimately tried to move on… But you couldn't. looking back on it, it's a very good way of putting it. Many people who struggle with depression face that one problem every time they have an episode, which could be every time they wake up… Either way even if they try to move on, they can't. The game didn't great job representing that. I also believe that (this one is a bit less proved) there was a part where they were saying "I just want to be with you" or something along the lines of " i'll be with you soon/I can't wait to see you" means that one of the people died… And then the other one killed himself.

In regards to the section where Jack was saying that he read that peoples bodies physically tried to make them stop killing themselves, i thought i could share a story. I suffered with depression and a few other mental illnesses for most of my life and a few years ago I thought my time was up. I was having a horrid time getting through the days and i thought that life would never get better. to me life had always been bad so it was always going to be bad. so after school one day i decided that enough was enough and i grabbed a bunch of pill bottles and was planning on swallowing as many as i could. i grabbed an asprin bottle out of my backpack and my hand shook so bad that i dropped it. it happened multiple times. i could touch literally everything else and be steady but not that bottle of pills. eventually i worked through the shakiness and tried to open the lid and for some reason i just threw the bottle across my room and left it there. that bottle stayed where it landed for probably a week before i grabbed it and put it back in my backpack. Not as interesting of a story as some other peoples but i thought it related and wanted to share.

I’m not going to write a long thing about experiences or feelings but- his speech at the end made me so fucking close to crying and trying so hard not to. Dealing with years and years of it, taking it to that point but still here to write this was a actual...traumatizing thing, and to just hear everything he said, how he actually tried to learn about it when most other people don’t ever. It was nice. It did feel like he was actually talking one on one; not feeling alone was something I really needed now

don't skip meals, skip pages don't cut wrists, cut paper don't stop, go to the next chapter this is something to everyone no matter how good or bad your lives are just remember, your loved and appreciated. but remember, keep going until you reach a happy ending. 💖

I've never talked to anyone about feeling depressed or feel like I don't belong it all started at school one day I was at recess. This girl bullied me she made me cry then when I looked for support from my family all I hear is my parents fighting I know they love me but sometimes it's hard to tell. One day I got an email from someone at my school who noticed how depressed I looked and sad. It was a long email then a link to a depression test. I took it, I didn't really realize that I was depressed. Then I thought about it.....Its true. I didn't want to believe I had depression. I didn't tell anyone until today. But things have been getting better. I feel like a value to the world I have dreams of working for NASA, and being useful. And my parents are getting better they don't fight as much and it's better. If you read this whole thing thank you.

That speech at the end hit waaay too close to home and I'm literally balling my eyes out. I'm so happy the he addresses depression and community in some of his videos. It is a very serious condition and I'm very appreciative that people are starting to talk more openly about it. it saddens me that just a couple months after jack played this game he could no longer say he had never experienced suicidal thoughts.

This brought back a really sad memory, about my friend, whom i saw as my brother. He hunged himself, found him in the backyard. Idk for how long. He was he was my best friend, he was my only friend. I miss him, he has been on life support the last 5-6 months. Just passed away monday, 08/29/2016. R.I.P, Josh B. We miss you, I miss you bro.

i know what he is talking about. ive been depressed for a while and it used to be brought on by my adhd meds. I told my mom and she didn't get it. she never felt that way. I just felt empty and didn't want to do anything, and that feeling scared me. I started cutting myself but stopped a year ago, and haven't done it since. now what i do when im depressed is watch or read or listen to sad thing and just cry, let all those negative emotions out. I feel shitty for the rest of the day, but it doesn't last past then, while when I don't cry, i may feel depressed for weeks on end. I found a non- destructive way to deal with things that works most of the time, and the advice 'Just do things that make you happy' or 'Just be happy' is bullshit. normally I draw to feel happy, but my depression made drawing uninteresting and didn't make me happy.
