All I know is that I was the luckiest girl ever to have had you as a father even if it wasn't for that long. 11 years with you and through out everything you managed to stay by my side even in the foster homes you made sure to call everyday and you fought for me. My Grandma died from cancer when I was six years old, and I was right there in the room.. I remember seeing the light leave her eyes, and I remember feeling her soul leave the room. I remember running to the living room and throwing myself on the couch and just sobbing. I was only six, and I understood that I'd never see her again. I'm 18 now, and I still cry for her sometimes. I know my life would be so much different if she were still here. She could've lived another 30 years.. Last year in September, my uncle lost a desperate 6 month battle with lung cancer. I remember that morning, standing outside as I listened to my dad weeping on the phone, telling me he was gone. I looked up at the blue sky and the leaves in this old maple tree and asking God why, why he'd take away someone so loved and needed by us down here. Now my 8, 6, and 5 year old cousins don't have a dad. My heart aches for them. On October 18th, 2023, at 9:30 in the morning, one of my friends ran a stop sign and was t-boned by a semi going 70 on the highway. Kids at school knew something had happened, but we didn't know who yet. By lunch, everyone knew. I remember being told and just sitting there, completely dumbfounded. I thought he couldn't be gone, because I'd just seen him yesterday. I couldn't cry then, but on my way home from school that day I had to pull over because I couldn't see through the tears. The school held a service for him and we got to see 30 minutes worth of pictures and depressing songs. He didn't need to go.. I remember asking the empty air in that car why he hadn't stopped. Songs like this are so touching and pull so deeply at heartstrings.

Back in 2021, I lost my grandfather, he was my mother, father and grandfather all at the same time. When I was in my mother’s womb one day he woke up and went to my mother telling her he knew exactly what I was and the perfect name. He told her I was gonna be a girl, and my name was gonna be “Embely” and my mother hesitated for a moment when she heard the name. My dad asked him if what he meant was “Kimberly” and he cheerfully said “yes, yes, that’s the name.” They all had a laugh, once I heard the story of how my name came to be, I absolutely cherish it. I told him that I loved him so much and thats something I am proud of myself for, he passed knowing that I loved him so much. The most precious thing u can have in life is time because it’s something u can’t get back once it’s too late. When I found out about his passing my whole world crumbled and I felt like I lost all meaning to who I was and who I wanted to be, wandering endlessly in my thoughts. It’s taken me so long to get back to myself. Allow urself time to heal and remember ur not alone.
