I BOUGHT THIS DVD AT THE NOW DEFUNCT CHINESE BOOKSTORE AT CATHAY BUILDING IN 2008 AT A STEEP PRICE OF 22 BUCKS.WHEN THIS DVD WAS MARKED DOWN TO 50 PERCENT OF ITS ORIGINAL PRICE 3 YRS LATER ,1 BOUGHT ANY ONE ,.THIS DVD IS A DIGITALLY REMASTERED.SHAW MOVIE, THE COLOR IS VERY NICE.THIS IS BRUCE LI FIRST MOVIE, NOT BAD FOR A NEW ACTOR WHO WAS 25 THEN.
There are better representations of Bruce's fighting out there. His strikes were always fast, powerful, confident and decisive. Being disarmed of Nunchackus like that, would never happen unless he deliberately tosses them away. He'd have struck so fast, the dude with the whip would have been knocked out before having the chance to even crack it a second time. This guy on the other hand is just flailing his arms about and stumbling around, no coordination or balance of any kind. Even when his strikes hit, they look more like a ballet performance, than actual hard strikes from a martial artist. Honestly, it's like the filmmakers recreated a duplicate of Bruce's original Game of Death costume, (unless they managed to attain the original somehow) and dress up a complete novice in it, who only looks the part.
Of course, he is not the real Bruce Lee and no one ever said he was. It used to be that imitation was the sincerest form of flattery good or bad within the Bruceexplotation genre I have seen both. Isn't this the chap who was in Exit the Dragon and enter the Tiger? I was getting the King of Kung Fu song mixed up with this movie and that one. Was not Liu Ping the landlord in Kung Fu Hustle? I know he was in Kung Pow Enter the Fist and a host of others? If so he was Bruce's stunt double for a few movies. People can imitate Lee's moves but not his film persona. What I was surprised about was seeing a very rarely seen weapon in a kung fu movie and that is the Shaolin whip I have studied European and American western whip handling but only seen the Shaolin whip used in training videos so it was interesting to see it used in the movie a take off on the Danny Insantos fight in The Game of death Bruce using the bamboo Whip vs Danny's escrima one flexible the other not.
i sued to watch this film back in the very very early 80s as a boy, literally took me 30 years remember what it was and then another 10 to find wtf is was called, all i could remember was him running up the steps and the tower of death stuff hehe
They could have done better than that, Bruce is faster than that it like this guy wasn't even trying. that guy needed more damage I'm starting to think that guy doesn't know how to take a hit, but Bruce he take's harder hit's then that and that guy needed more speed to his fighting
Actually Bruce Li was and is a very nice person. He didnt want to imitate Bruce Lee. When he gain fame he show what he can do on his own with "The Chinese Stuntman". Unfortunatelly bad things in his life forced him to stop. (His wife died after the stuntman i think) Also at the time he was into Bruceploitation films he was the best of all the others who never trully respect Bruce Lee as Li did. He was a better actor also and his movies can prove that because he is not imitating Lee's acting as the others. (Only in the fights) Look for his interview here in RU-vid and you will agree with me.
The Chinese Stunt Man, and Bruce Lee the Man the Myth, are two of my most memorable movies of him. Also, he had a scene with Dan Inosanto in the stunt man movie. It's like he went full circle, getting to work with Inosanto, someone who had a close association with Bruce Lee.
@@VideoTube2016 I prefer it when he takes on the role of Bobby Lo (Lee Shen Kwok ) because even Kim Tai Chung's acting has been good in both movies, as you said he could feel like Bruce Lee, in Tower of Death he can show his worth in martian cinema
lol i was intrested to see this, trailers made this look good thanks for posting this, terrible acting to say the least but i love the song, i used it in my own bruce lee tribute
It's weird. When I was a kid, I would had thought Bruce Li was really good. NOW that I'm a lot older - I'm looking through other movies with Bruce Li....I'm like, "shit...Bruce Li sucks. He's so so slow and horrible. lol.
Bruce Li could've done better. I've seen better Bruce Li fighting scenes than this. The song is mad funny! "King of Kung Fu". That song should be on iTunes! LOL!
Although the fighting style does not seem to reflect Bruce Lee's original plans for the Game of Death, the plot of this movie seems to be closer to Lee's original idea.
Just plain bad acting and fight scenes..There will never ever be anyone like Bruce Lee..To many out there trying to impersonate him,and no one has even come close...Jet Li is another great Martial Artist..
