Rosanna Scotto and Lori Stokes took a tour of the Hudson Yards development on the West Side of Manhattan as completion day neared. From a first Equinox Hotel to a Dog City day care, developer Stephen Ross said this is like nothing the city has seen before. While more development is expected in the years to come, opening day for Phase 1 is set for March 15, 2019.

I laugh when people complain about how expensive it is to live in Hudson yards. As though anyone would spend 25 billion to develop a property then only charge $800 a month to let people live there. 🙄

@Darwin Magsino I've been to China (Shanghai, Beijing and Tianjin). I was impressed (being a New Yorker). Everything is sparkling-new there and shiny. But, once you dig just a bit below the gleaming façade, everything is kind of crappy - service is terrible, amenities are bad, convenience is not there and of course the pollution. Maybe, if we give China another 20 years, they will fix all of that.. but now, no thanks!

I live literally 5 minutes from here and I can´t afford even 1% of the stuff they sell in the stores. My roommates work at the boutiques at Hudson Yards and they feel the same way. My parents when they were my age owned a house and two cars and I think our generation will probably not have this quality of life. The rich are ripping off everyone and turn us to wage slaves to serve the throngs of moneyed tourists to NYC.
@luigidaniele6613
@luigidaniele6613 4 года назад
If you are doing worse then your parents then that is nobody else's fault but yours, it is the easiest time in history to build wealth right now. Home mortgage interest rates are lower then when your parents bought a home and barrier to entry for business is lower. If you are born poor that is not your fault but if you die poor it is.
@izdatsumcp
@izdatsumcp 2 года назад
A couple of things. Firstly, if the rich all move to Hudson Yards, then the places they leave will be left for people with less income. This means the poorer get better housing. Secondly, interest rates. If you don't understand their impact on housing, don't talk about housing prices.

Massive censorship online, wealth inequality so drastic people from the past would think we’re joking, and a government spying on us and tracking our every move both online and irl. 20 years in NYC and I know what I want from my neighborhood for it to be perfect. #1 transportation - I want multiple subway lines going to all places in NYC within a 5-10 minute walk at most. #2 I want great supermarkets like Trader Joes, Wholefoods, Fairway (preferably 2 or 3) and, of course, any markets like the Spanish one they plan there or Eataly is a big plus. #3 I want cool, happening neighborhood bars and restaurants. #4 I want to be next to some green space - CP, Hudson Park, etc. #5 other neighborhood places like barbershop, dry cleaning, banks, etc. I think that Hudson Yards kind of fails on that first one - you need to take an extra train to get to Grand Central/Times Square hub. It sounds like it will be great for #2 and great for #3 and Hudson Park is just a block away.. so not a terrible neighborhood by NYC standards.

Blooper, I think J.R. is correct. Imo the buildings are not in themselves architecturally beautiful. They also failed to be inventive, or even visually distinctive, let alone, original. That, to my mind makes the whole project pretty uninspiring - which is the exact opposite of what architecture is supposed to make you feel. It all looks like a rebooted set design out of 80s 'Robocop'. Also, J. R. wasn't criticising a lack of facilities either, so there was no need to regurgitate some facts from the video - we all saw the zealously hyperactive delivery of the presenters here telling us 50 times or more it felt like, that this was all but the second coming of Capitalism living for the modern age. Its clear his (J. R.'s ) point was more about the blatant lack of imagination put into the buildings overall design, and aesthetic in its surroundings, given its location. Now forgive my essay here, but thats a subjective truth based on taste, aka; a straight up opinion of his. He found the buildings ugly and boring - and as you can probably guess - given the historical nature of the project, (in a city historically famous for its innate instinct to pioneer architectural innovation to the world) its true. Subjectively - and without the need to throw insult, try it sometime. Class and taste; two things that, ironically, can transcend wealth entirely.
