This Sumo Hokkien Mee stall has just been suspended for 2 weeks till 6 Sep 2022 for unhygienic practices. After watching Leslie’s RU-vid review I wanted to visit the stall but did a quick Google search and there are quite a number of negative reviews/feedback including complaints of poor hygienic practices. As a food reviewer it is incumbent on you to thoroughly research your subject and review in an impartial manner. A food reviewers credibility is everything. Recently I have found that alot of local food reviews are wildly inaccurate..either they are not impartial and professional or simply have poor taste.
Oh my! That is shocking! I will ask the owner what happened. As regards to the food review, we tell it as it is from our point of view. Do note that the food trail was sponsored by Lentor Modern and so we really have no reason to recommend Sumo unless we found that the stall had a good story. The young man certainly is passionate about his Hokkien Mee and I saw him frying it and after talking to him, I know that he knows how to fry. Unfortunately, when it comes to customer service, that is not so easily gauged.
Anyway, there is never a queue whenever I am in this HC, don't think it is worth trying. There are other better ones e.g. fish ball noodles, Malay stall (in the front row).
Isn't this the stall that was suspended for selling unclean food recently this week? They were suspended for 2weeks. I m talking about Sumo hokkien mee.
Thanks for the suggestion. Will consider for future content but will likely indicate in the writeup vs video as sometimes the stall owners make changes and it’s hard to keep up. 😅
The young boss stopped frying for a while but Covid forced him back to the wok. This type of food, when you let workers fry, they tend not to do a good job.
The hokkien mee stall owner has a nasty attitude to an aged elderly worker which I've witnessed it along with other customers couple of months back. A distasteful bullying act.
