That brings back memories. I had the "Red Barron" version of this plane and learned that indeed there was an engine that was more finicky than the .049 and that was the .020. The least piece of debris gets into the motor and it doesn't start. Glad you've got the patience to work with the motor because I did not.

These planes are pretty resilient, those "landings" seem rough

Yes. The pavement is rough and rutted. Hard to get a smooth touchdown and the glide is poor. Probably best to fly over grass. But I don’t have a good opportunity there.

What kind of fuel do you use?

Currently using Fitz Fuels Glowplugboy Rocket 24 .049 Blend. It’s 24% nitro which I think is too much for the .049 engines but seems to work well for the Pee Wee .020. I purchased on eBay. Brodak has fuel also. Next purchase I will drop down to lower nitro content.
