But yeah, Dazai's flaw is (that he is Dazsi) that he ignores his past. He hasnt changed that much and that time when Q showed up is proof of that with how he reacted during and afterwards. He doesnt acknowledge Akutagawa unless it benefits him, same with Chuuya and generally just everyone in his life, even those from the agency (although he does seem to care about at least Atsushi, the others seem to just amuse him). Point is, Dazai doesn't change what he needs to, he ignores and hopes that means he's changed. Yes, he's helped people but he's ruined more lives than he has ever saved (or tried to)
honestly i feel bad for everyone in this situation. cuz on one hand dazai is trying so hard to be better than he was in the past, but on the other hand everything he did in the past negatively affected people, its like a curse. im glad dazai is making a better life for himself but he hurt so many people and he refuses to confront it and truly become better. by ignoring everything he did in the best dazai is only destroying himself and many others, even people he believes he saved, like atsushi, im sure in the future atsushi will find out what dazai did to akutagawa and be stuck in an eternal conflict. Theres no right person in this situation, and all dazai can do to mend it is confront his mistakes and apologize, and maybe he doesnt deserve to be forgiven but that doesnt change the fact that at least hes making an effort to become a better person. im sure one day everyone will have a better life and be happy like they deserve. (lmk if theres anythng i missed tho)
ehhh, i don't think dazai plans on changing how they treat ryū or chūya. i don't think that's as much of an issue with chūya, since it's mutual and seems pretty lighthearted most of the time, but it's definitely an issue with ryū. i do agree that atsushi would be conflicted if he finds out the extent of what zai did, especially because they both view him as their savior but for two horribly different reasons. dazai has left the pm behind, but they aren't leaving his previous behavior behind. there's still obvious tension between them and gin, he's still afraid of q at best, and they still abuse ryū. i don't think that'll change until it gives severe consequences to him directly and not just others, like if ryū genuinely tries to kill them like he (ryū) said they would ("he will only die by my hand" or smth like that in the anime) or atsushi stops trusting him because they treat ryū like the headmaster treated atsu. i kind of understand your view, but dazai knows what he's doing is wrong and has for a long time (at least two years, probably the entire time).

I agree that dazai treated akutugawa and Q badly but I don't think he treated Gin and chuuya that badly to be considered his victims. The only time Chuuya could be considered a dazai victim would be when they were 15 and dazai manipulated the sheep to betray chuuya. And even them the sheep would of probably still betray him as they were afraid of him. Also their relationship is complicated as chuuya has also been abusive (?) to dazai. And Gin relationship with dazai seem to be good, as dazai even teases her when they meet in the train station. And Gin joining the port mafia is more of Akutugawa faults than dazai, because dazai gave Akutugawa a choice it was either join the Mafia and he would give him a reason to live or he would give Akutugawa and his sister enough money to live a normal life, Akutugawa choose to join the Mafia and Gin wanting to follow her brother joined with him.
yeah, fair enough for the most part, but dazai still manipulates chūya. for example, before the climax of the lovecraft fight, dazai "suggests" that chūya uses corruption, saying, "but in the end, it's your decision." chūya quickly replied with, "when you say that, it really means that i don't have any choice at all!" dazai eggs chūya on very frequently and provokes him both in conversation and in combat. while it usually does seem teasing and is indeed mutual, dazai usually crosses the line to get a reaction out of chūya. a good example of that is him holding chūya's knife to q's throat and threatening to kill them just to see how chūya reacts and if he would stop them (another example of q being a victim too, though he'a more collateral damage in this situation). so yeah, gin is definitely the least impacted by dazai's shittiness, but i feel like there is a but of tension between them like when they held his blade to dazai's throat for seemingly no reason (other than intimidation) when the black lizard went to tell him about q being let out, and dazai had a pretty cold expression towards them. yeah, i do think they're on better terms, but not good terms in my mind. i do understand where you're coming from though!

(It's not meant as anything bad I'm just curious, as I don't see it) Because as I see it dazai is giving chuuya a choice when he has to use corruption. And I'm pretty sure that dazai didn't threaten to kill Q to see chuuya's reaction, it was just him pointing out that chuuya would usually be against killing children but he was fine about dazai killing Q. Also Q ability had just murdered a lot of civilians and could murder more if the Guild got their hands on him again. In the desc you said that dazai was a shitty partner, can you tell why you think that? (Another genuine question, I'm not asking to be mean.)
@@Lovyoojin it might just be a difference in how we read the tones, as well as me not reading these parts in a while. but with the lovecraft manipulation bit, i think it's more of a dazai disguising their tone and intentions and chūya seeing through that. overall shitty partner is because dazai has a knack for bringing up, disregarding, and sometimes even kind of mocking chūya's trauma (asking him how it felt to be tortured in sb, bringing up him usually not letting children die when threatening q as reference to the sheep, etc) and giving him non-choices (using corruption in the lovecraft fight, joining the pm or letting the sheep get killed, using corruption to defeat guivre despite it getting rid of the last confirmation of his humanity). and yeah, chūya probably doesn't like that q hurt and/or killed a lot of people, but he still sees him as a kid and is obviously a bit close with him as seen in a lot of official art of the two.

But if you call dazai a bad partner you should call chuuya a bad partner as he has also been pretty bad to dazai (in dead apple he told dazai nobody would believe him to be human something dazai struggle with) Also dazai and chuuya relationship is one of them not using each other so I don't believe that dazai is manipulating chuuya
thing is, they really aren't trying to change where it matters. he still treats ryū like shit and sent them to his death. there's obviously tension between dazai and gin in the scenes they're together and it clearly isn't just the ada vs. pm tension, because hirotsu is pretty chill with him. dazai still manipulates chūya (like "whenever you day that it's my choice, it really means there's no choice at all!" about corruption), and treats q with the bare minimum from what we say because he's afraid of him. and this is just his pm victims! i'm a certified dazai hater 😾
