The parrot was actually training the girl. And never forgot to appreciate her by saying "Good girl".

What a lovely story this is. Just beautiful. Stella is so funny. I chuckled at the reference to the 4 brain cells. My last male beagle was named Hurley, but most often he was called Plankhead or Planky. His brain cell was named Alvin, as in the trouble making chipmunk. One day he and his beagle sister were being impossible on the leash. Out of frustration I told them to stop time sharing a brain cell. That got a good laugh from a fellow across the street.

The same happened to my cockatoo, when i got him he was very young and i didn't know his gender so i named him Jasmine (female bird name).....later after some tests i figured he was a boy.......but i kept the name cause he loved it, responded and lived telling it 😍

What a great story! I had a cockatoo for 15 years but couldn't keep her. I thought she was a male all those years until the person taking him (a bird expert) told me she was female. Birds are a blast and are sweet and adorable, affectionate if you're patient and calm. You and your fiancé are obviously great pet owners. Birds are high maintenance and a lifetime pet.

Parrots are so smart! My mother had allot of parrots. Ours were in cages as we didn't want them to accidentally fly out the door, bite cords or fly into hot pans while cooking. Plus we had dogs and didn't want one to accidentally bite the parrots. Plus we had chickens and we felt we had to be super clean with the parrots and let them out in only one room in the house where shoes were never worn and floors very clean so there was no chance of catching chicken diseases.

Love that they are free roaming, allowed to have their wings! ( I used to have birds the same way) As Stella turned out a boy, why not call him Stellar? But it really doesn't matter, he's exteemly trusting. Mine were tame and had quite a vocabulary but would not allow me to pet his head in the way Stella does. Hope you all have a happy long life together.

my Lovebird was the same story - when I got him, his mother called him Peaches and was confident he was a boy. I slightly renamed him to Percy. I had him a year at an apartment and bought a house. It was a cold house so I bought him a happy hut to sleep in. He kept digging in the hut but chewing everything to shreds was nothing new so I didn't take notice. Then one morning I got up and there was something in the hut - an egg! So Percy was a girl. At that point I just stayed with Percy although she was called Miss Percy by many. She lived 17 years and I lost her last fall. Little bird with a big personality who ran this household - I still miss her and will never forget my girl.

I am looking for a ringneck so hard right now. My last bird just passed away and I feel like I lost a child. That bird was a budgie that I got to find out if a parrot was the kind of commitment I wanted and yes.... it is. I am so glad I got tons of footage of him over the years. People thought I was a pro bird trainer because of how well I trained him. I later researched bird training to find out what I had done to get him so unique, especially for a budgie. I could go for walks with him in the neighborhood, him having full flight capabilities and other people were so nervous and freaked out for me that he would fly away. It was funny to me when he eventually would. He only ever did to mess with everyone flying circles around their heads and dive bombing them. I worked from home almost his entire life which was a big part of it. I am in South Florida and you would think there would be tons of breeders down here but shockingly there are not. There are a couple of exotic bird shops but they want to all of a sudden charge almost $10k for a cockatoo or african grey. Hell, they want over $1k for a cockatiel when just 2 years ago greys and cockatoos were about $1200-2000 and cockatiels were $75!!! There are the types of breeders you mentioned you got yours from in miami and in west palm beach. I don't know if they are doing the fishtank thing... pretty sure they are not because they show picktures and it looks like backyard aviaries, but they don't look very professional (meaning clean). I can find a ringneck from those guys for about $700 which is about what they cost before the prices and availability got crazy, I am just worried of spending that money on a bird that isn't weened yet off syringe feeding and finding out he or she is sick. I know the best avian vet down here so I plan on seeing what he would charge me to basically help me take care of one at their clinic until it is weened and ready to go home. They do boarding services plus they have their own lab so they can easily do everything I need, hopefully they don't want more than the bird costs to do it though. BTW... you got luck with yours being a male. Their little mating dances are so funny. The females are super cute when they do their displays but the males or funny as heck... budgies just spit seeds at each other. the first one I got was a rescue and it freaked me out first time I saw him do that. I thought he was sick lol.

Haha, we had a very similar experience with our cockatiel. His name was Athanasios (he died under a wing amputation surgery when they were trying to get rid of a tumor, unfortunately... we miss him terribly). For six years, we thought he was a boy. Until he laid an egg! We never stopped calling him a "he" though, because we got so used to it and... I don't think he cared. He had a very loving life and I hope he knew how much he was loved. Especially by our daughter. Stella is so gorgeous! I love Ringnecks. We've a Blue-Fronted Amazon and a Quaker right now, so birds are very special to us. I'm very happy to see Stella and Jeff be so happy and loved!

So danged cute :) For what it's worth: In the dog world there is a product called Bitter Apple that you can apply to items around your house -- it tastes horrible and works to help stop dogs from chewing. You might check it out to make sure it would work for birds as well.

Hey I have parakeets and I've lost a few over the years but I had two particular ones I named Tweety and Sylvester. The blue one turned out to be a girl and Tweety the yellow one turned out to be a boy. By 3 years I couldn't change their names ❤️ I absolutely love birds and they are so special. I've learned dogs and birds don't mix of a certain breed. If you have a Pitt bull or a boxer never let birds out around them! Boy oh boy it was quite a scene once upon a time now I only have 4 birds which I hope to get more or that my mama bird has some more birds. ❤️ I love Stella and I love how you have Stella trained. Jeff is so cute ❤️ they have a long life span which is good but be mindful things don't always play out as they can get sick to. But loved Stella and Jeff keep us updated ❤️

This was such a fun story to watch! Stella was my maiden name. My dad was called Stella on all his sports teams and it never bothered him to be called Stella. So you can think of it as more of a family name than a first name perhaps? I wouldn't change it either! :)

Indian ringnecks are my favorite 🦜 parrot. They have the sweetest voices. Entire flocks of them live in feral communities in Europe from escaped birds. In London some in parks will eat fruit from your hand.

This is adorable! I have a budgie parakeet that I named Wendy prior to learning it was a boy bird. But by that point Wendy was just the name he was used to. So I still call him my pretty Wendy bird.. and he doesn't seem to mind :)

Just teach him to say good boy. When he says "good girl" he's talking to you. So start telling him "good boy" and always refer to him that way from now on. . He's so smart, he'll pick it up, and thank you for rescuing him. Good job!
