This a very sweet backstory. Ember taking care of these two and raising them despite the dangers. Plus, shows more of Sky's personality as brave, but careless somewhat in terms of danger. Meanwhile, Shade seems like the mediator...Always telling her to follow the rules, but covering for her whenever she gets in trouble despite not wanting to do so and let her face the consequences. Lastly, Ember being strict but kind as they are still just children that deserve to have good lives even if one of them is a hybrid that makes Ember a quote on quote 'hypocrite' by Chaos. Even after making the law of banning citizens from going to the woods, I think this makes Ember not exactly an evil tyrant, but simply a bit over-protective as he only wants the best for them.

This reminded me a little of the first book of Wings of Fire, as they were living in a cave they couldn't leave as it had a boulder seeling the entrance/exit that could only be opened with a key one of their 'guardians' kept on them

Tbh it's blade's fault for just locking them up in a cave causing sky to be curious of outside and making her interact with a griffin it's like shaking a meat and hitting a lion and expect them not to bite idk it's just my opinion Blaze needs more screen time if he wants me to come at least close to understanding him 😅
