glad someone thought to deep dive into his performance apart from Emma's, because he brought something equal to that collab. I loved how closely he was listening & reacting to Nancy, you could see his reactions of vulnerability or compassion in his eyes, he conveyed so much without the need for words.
You are so right, that is what was so obvious he listened to Nancy and was very turned into her feeling. I think I heard an actor say that a good actor listens to the other actors and respond to them to what he hears. They are listening and not in their own heads, trying to remember their next line or response. He listened and then he is able to respond appropriately. Nancy said you are good because you know, you feel and you are astute. To me a good actor speaks less and acts more with his eys, face and body. We feel him, therefore know him. Sometimes I forgot Nancy and I was with him. I love watching acting and you do too.

He reminds me a bit of Keanu Reeves, he carries that kind of gentleness and vulnerability that is so charming and at the same time reassuring. He is the kind of person that you would not mind being stuck in an elevator together.
This is the best interview of Daryl McCormack I have seen so far. Emma was fantastic as usual, but I felt his performance was truly exceptional. I loved how he brought out the true kindness and empathy of the character Leo as well as the broken heart and pain of Conner.

This is possibly the best interview I've ever heard. I just want to acknowledge this woman's incredible intellect, depth, incisiveness. So rich and satisfying. And it enabled us to see the depth and intellect of Mr. McCormack as well.
Leo Grande gave me life...adorable, strong, sexual prowess, vulnerability, generosity it was all there...very powerful. Daryl is an amazing actor, can't wait to see more of him in future projects. He turned Nancy 16 yrs old. Nancy was deep diving into his personal life great work.

I remember Darryl from Peaky Blinders but he was under the radar, but in this role, as a co-lead, he’s really come into his own! He’s so great in this movie and am glad that he manifested this opportunity for himself! Excited to see what he does next!🥰

i so appreciate the interviewer. she asks great questions, questions that i also want to know. i just watched the movie the 2nd time. first time i was more focusing on emma but the 2nd time i wanted to know more about leo and the dynamic btwn leo and nancy. it was amazing that he, a young guy, was able to hold himself so confidently, creating a safe place and guiding her. we kind of don't expect this out of younger men nowadays. so much to unpack with his character, too, the generosity, maturity, care, compassion and confidence coming from a young man. as an audience, i was learning alongside nancy about sex workers. the 2nd time when she said good luck to you the 2nd time, it made me cry. when they both know this should be the last time they meet. there were so much btwn the line that was conveyed. very well done. you can feel the humanity came thru the movie.

I watched this movie twice and the acting between Emma and Daryl is exceptional. I can relate to the Nancy character of being prudish about sexuality. I wouldn't mind if they made a part 2 of this movie when they encounter each other.
💖What a great interview highlighting Daryl's intelligence, humility, joy and capability as an actor. I've seen him in "The Lesson" and in "The Woman in the Wall" and he was just as good. I hope they're both nominated for an Oscar if it's still possible. And I hope the movie itself also wins. Excellent film..

Really good interview Mara! As well as enjoying the film on its own terms, I found a deeper meaning which has been very helpful. Most of us experience a constant inner dialogue between our conscious rational mind and subconscious emotional mind. The subconscious is preprogrammed by culture, upbringing etc. Without the ability of the conscious mind to lovingly steward it through limiting thinking and behaviour, it continues to play out its conditioning. The unloving controlling conscious mind labels this as self sabotage, but really it is bad management. In the film Leo portrays a very good example of the evolving conscious mind, which is willing to adapt to its environment. Initially he is seemingly perfect, but only in the role he has created for himself. Once challenged (which is how the conscious mind grows) he is eventually able to respond in a mature and empowering way, and this holds the space for Nancy (representing the subconscious) to open and flower. Moral of the story: Be kind to ourselves and be willing to change rigid expectations in order to grow.

His talent and performance were phenomenal - so convincing that it felt real. I cried about 15-20 minutes into the film by the gentleness and generosity he brought in juxtaposition of Emma Thompson's nervousness and hardness that is normally how we are. It was healing and miraculous.
