As a Korean vietnam veteran myself, I can't help but feel some kind of nostalgia listening to this song. I went through all the hardships and saw so many dead bodies and unnecessary sacrifices that could've been avoided. But I still miss my youth when I could make it through the jungle and return home safe. It truly feels strange to be growing older. Even the nightmares from the battlefields can be sugarcoated and look so shiny. For all the young people, don't waste even a single moment of the shiniest part of your life! You can't buy your youth even with all the money in the world! (sorry for my bad English if there's any mistakes. I've forgotten my English a lot after many decades living in Korea)
Shout out to our Vietnam Veterans & the falling. To all military Veterans the falling today & past. This song says it all. CCR knew how to sing a anti war song...
Yeah, a few songs for ww2, but Vietnam had painted black, california dreaming, fortunate son, all along the watchtower, the House of the rising sun and a shit Ton more
For the generation that doesn’t know about this song, here’s a little history lesson. It’s about David Eisenhower, the grandson of President Eisenhower, who married Julie Nixon, the daughter of Richard Nixon in 1968, when he wrote "Fortunate Son". Eisenhower spent three years in the military, most of it as an officer aboard the USS Albany
A soldier's song.Every word of it is true.Politicians shouldn't be allowed to even hum it ,except for the paltry few who served. If your not willing to send your son to war,you have no right to send anyone else's.
My grandpa use to have this song on repeat anytime I drove with him! He sadly passed to lung cancer 😔 hope everybody who reads this has the best life they ever could live !
Bro I never had a grandpa one of them died one year before I born and the other passed away 4month before I born so at least be happy that you have moments with ur grandpa😢
@Charlie Wootton True. America has a bad track record with combatting guerrilla wars. Just look at Iraq and Afghanistan. US is only capable of winning a conventional straight up fight against other nation states
@@Gunship-4-20 Sorry buddy, but I can't understand Russian, only Portuguese and English. Could you translate? For either of the two languages? My automatic translator is faulty.
Its good people know this because a lot of people were like" oh vietnams no threat why invade?" the domino effect will happen and it could be thailand next, Indonesia, japan, india and then we would have been fucked
movie clips on this vids that I can see are Good Morning Vietnam, Platoon, Apocalypse Now, Full Metal Jacket, We Were Soldiers, The Deer Hunter and perhaps a bit of The Casualties Of War also Born on The Fourth of July
I have an office write up from 1995 about my dad. He was in fifth grade when he saw a vietnamese kid walk into class on the first day of school. The note says something along the lines of " Mark put his two hands together as if it were a machine gun and proceeded to fire at a student of Asian descent without regard for the students emotions" 🤣🤣🤣 his stepdad my grandad was in nam 1967. 199th light infantry 179th military intelligence detachment. If anyone knows what his duty's at the battle of long bihn would have been please let me know. He was in the bunkers when the mortars when off. And he only talked about it once with PRIDE I hope to carry with me into the army. God bless merica✌️🇺🇲
@@keonivaldivia4907 ok, you clearly don't know what you're talking about. One, we were killing like 20 of them for every one of us. The VC were getting their ass handed to them the whole way through in terms of bodycounts. We only withdrew because the public opinion was so low. Secondly, China actually backed N.Vietnam supplying them weapons and munitions along with the Russians. You're thinking of France.
@@TrueNorthProductions this is not a sport or video games, you dont count kill ratio as a goal, the North achieved their goal and US didn't. And why was public opinon so low? Because its the useless war cost tens thousand of soldiers, hundreds billion $ and it not gonna end as long as you stay there.
TrueNorth Productions He was talking about the border conflict between China and Vietnam in late 1979,which the main Chinese forces got slowed down by local militias and when the main Vietnamese forces arrived from Cambodia, they just retreat
TrueNorth Productions No the United States withdrew from the Vietnam War for several reasons. The Army had to fight in unfamiliar territory, was lacking in moral, were not prepared for the conditions, could not shut down the Ho Chi Minh Trail, and were untrained to respond to guerilla warfare.

Bro my grandad loves this so much that he's doing this weird little dance on the floor and shrieking "They're in the trees! Jesus Christ they're in the trees!" He's so funny :)
That's the truth. We were crushing those little bastards. D.C. didn't have the balls to stand up to a bunch of hippies while our boys were kicking ass and taking names. Our government was weak. Still is. Our military will always be strong.
@Mehtaab SINGH Underestimated? Dude we killed almost a million VC and only lost 50 thousand of our own troops. We didn't lose a single major battle. The reason we withdrew was political pressure back in the US and not wanting to get into a war with China and the USSR.
Girl:gets hit by dart and yells about make-up Boy:gets hit by dart and falls over while his buddy drags him back to spawn Girl) UGH Jessica they hit my expensive nail polish too omg Boy) bro I nailed one in the face Boy) yeah, bro you so missed (I live in Utah above is a real event between my friends family in which I was helping to keep under control)
Ya know there's lots of things you expect in war. Carnage, the sleepless nights, but what they don't prepare you for is the incessant use of Fortunate Son. I would hear that song any time I was in a helicopter, or taking a swift boat deep into the jungle that song again.
Some folks are born made to wave the flag Hoo, they're red, white and blue And when the band plays "Hail to the chief" Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord It ain't me, it ain't me I ain't no senator's son, son It ain't me, it ain't me I ain't no furtunate one, no Some folks are born silver spoon in hand Lord, don't they help themselves, Lord?
