Florida (Esther Rolle) has a heated argument with James (John Amos) after realizing she doesn't have a real purpose in life.

Norman Lear is getting way too much credit for his involvement in the production of the black sitcom shows he’s being accredited for. Gotta hear Demon Wilson’s interview on the Comedy Hype podcast about Norman Lears lack of participation and involvement. Norman Lear didn’t want the Evan’s family to even have a father figure in the show.

Just because Florida was "going thru something ,dont mean she had to play mean lady" to James and Kids,but tv had to tv,she apologized to Mike for hitting him,but to noone else,just a paperthin"sorry i worried u"and Thelma playing her mothers apologoist,"she was hitting at the world",just dont set right,this show always had to end with Florida being happy or satisfied with any outcome.not fair.

She doesn't regret anything other than making that her whole life. A woman needs something of her own, not just to be a wife and mother. Though being a wife and mother is also important.
