@FoxParasyte
@FoxParasyte 3 года назад
Yeah it depends on the material used but i never really have my logs in a area that would get humid. Normally using them for desert dwellers. They do make logs that are mold and mildew resistant.

As long as the edges aren't like needles or knife points I would say that the gecko would love this edges for getting off their shed. You have to be more cautious with the diy plastic hides because those suckers will cause damage. I use a lighter and lightly melt around the edges which might work with the other hides too , I'm not sure tho because I haven't tried it . ❤
@FoxParasyte
@FoxParasyte Год назад
That's a fair thought, some of them are very knife edge like.... Rough is definitely a different idea entirely which i 100% agree that you should have some sort of aid for shedding.

great vid dude with the hides that are logs and have sharp edges doesn't mean you shouldn't buy them what i do is file or sand down the edges or just cover the bottom of the hide with substrate
@FoxParasyte
@FoxParasyte 2 года назад
Right i mean i show filing them down with the dremel but i dont like the hide in the substrate method. Only because some reptiles like to dig so if they dig by the areas that are sharp thats an issue waiting to happen

Can you explain whteach hide can be used for like humidity, hot side or cold
@FoxParasyte
@FoxParasyte 3 года назад
i can possibly make a video on it but a TLDR is most hides that have a bottom like that repti shelter or even say a tupperware with a hole in the lid can make for a good humid hide. Generally hot and cold hides are the same, it doesn't really matter since the under tank heater should be what makes the difference between the hot and cold side.

Amazing video. I am planning on getting a Spotted python, do you have any rock hides or any suggestions on rock hides?
@FoxParasyte
@FoxParasyte 3 года назад
I'll be honest i'm very limited in my knowledge of snakes. I would imagine the same general rule would apply however obviously with larger snakes you would need a larger hide. I know big box pet stores have a good amount to choose from it's just about checking the hides themselves for any hazards that could damage the skin/scales on the snake.
@6strings735
@6strings735 3 года назад
If it is a baby spotted python, they need low height, preferably dark hides. A paper towel tube (give it a little squeeze so it is not perfectly round) is great actually. Or Pangea or Lugarti small plastic hides. Spotted pythons are crevice dwellers, so they like to squeeze into things. Also, on Etsy, look up leopard gecko hides. Almost any will work. You don't want a heavy rock hide with a baby snake - too easy for the keeper to accidentally drop it on the snake. An adult spotted python is much more forgiving in the choice of hide. But they still prefer a low-height hide if given a choice.

@FoxParasyte

I'm not totally sure on that. I wouldn't if it were me because not only would i have to take the extra time sterilizing and cleaning the shells from bacteria, i would be concerned with the gecko getting trapped inside the shell.
