When Robin Williams passed away the bench in Boston Public Garden became a huge memorial and is still a popular spot for photos to this day. I love how you were affected by Robin's character and you are not alone and it is also why he so deserved the Academy Award for this role. What truly amazes me is that Matt and Ben wrote such a layered and beautiful script at such a young age. This script started as a writing assignment Matt had while he was attending Harvard
@bigdream_dreambig

I agree -- and, yes, "amazed" is the right word when it comes to the script writing. It required keen insight into the human condition that was certainly well beyond _my_ grasp when _I_ was that age.

I heard people giving Matt and Ben a lot of flack for no reason when I was growing up. To this day they are 2 of my favorites. I will say that I am a much bigger fan of Matt Damon than I am of Ben Affleck. But I like them both because they also got their start working with Kevin Smith in the Jersey Chronicles. I'm also one of those crazy weird people who thinks Ben Affleck's Batman is really really good. He's no Christian Bale but hes definitely 2nd place. Robert Pattinson was too quiet for me or something....

The popular English idiom, "How do you like those apples?" originated in an English Ordinance Unit during WWI. The Britain's developed a trench bomb that looked like a candied apple. They called it a "Toffee Apple." Upon launching them onto the enemy they were known to say, "How do ya like dem apples?" It made it's way into the American culture, via early war movies and became a popular, America cultural idiom, still used today meaning, basically, "Take THAT!"

Bisscute, you mentioned how you could listent to Robin Williams talk all day long. -------- He looks happy and smiling but there is an ever-present sadness in his eyes. ------- Funny thing is he's one of the greatest comedians that ever lived, as well as one of the greatest dramatic actors in movie history, and could switch between them both flawlessly. -------- Sad to say that sadness you see in his eyes does catch up with him in real life. R.I.P Robin Williams. -------- I implore you to check out more of his classic movies, like Ms. Doubtfire. Jumanji, Dead Poet's Society, Patch Adams, What Dreams may Come, and many more.

I love the first meeting between Sean & Will, where Will is probing for a pressure point to drive Sean away the same as he has with every other contender. Sean knows what he's doing, but continues to engage without defensiveness until Will finally finds the point, which devastates Sean and takes him time to recover from. The scene of Sean's messy apartment and raising his whiskey glass with the hand still clearly wearing his wedding ring while he wrestles with Will's jab is brilliantly brief yet says so much. This film is a masterpiece.in so many ways.

Hey Bisscute, such awesome script writing from some hollywood rookies, mind you it only cost $10 million to make the movie and it made $225 at box office, plus way more after it's initial release. ------- Affleck and Damon wanted to make a name for themselves instead of just being a cog in the Hollywood writer's wheel. ------- Instead of just selling it to a studio they wanted to be cast in it.------- They referenced what Stallone did with his Rocky script.-------- Stallone acting and writing "Rocky" is the greatest example of gambling on yourself, but this is a close second. Mission accomplished.

Laughing through tears sums this movie up.

That's a nice analogy you used: "heart and a brain fighting", never thought about it that way :) I always thought about it as 'mom and dad fighting' haha

In fact, Amadeus Beethoven started going deaf in his mid twenties, and was completely deaf by the time he was about 45. He would compose after being completely deaf by holding a pencil in his mouth and resting it against the piano to "feel" the notes. Life is so unfair sometimes. This film hits me because I have two Cancer's, and my wife cares for me. So, the scene of Robin talking about not regretting every moment he had with his wife. Even after the Cancer. Love!

“How do you like them apples” is a pretty old expression (maybe the early 20th century?) that doesn’t really get used much anymore. It basically just a way to taunt someone.

"Rounders" is another great Matt Damon movie.

No apologies necessary sweetie, EVERYONE cries at the "It's not your fault" scene. Great movie and great reaction. 💯🔥👍😎 (Oh, favorite scene is probably when his friend is giving him the hard/loving truth of how he was wasting his gift.)

Such a great movie with a star studded cast. I appreciated this movie more as I got older and understood it a lot better than when I watched it as a kid.

"How do you like _them_ apples" is an odd phrase with its origins in the military in the mid-1900s (which others in the comments have explained), but it's the same as when someone says "How do you like THAT?!" or "How do you like me NOW?!" It essentially means "This proves I'm more impressive than you thought" or "This proves I'm better than you are."
