Good luck Bill! Years ago I had a C 11 on a Ioptron CEM 70 mount. I used Nina to control the system. And even though I really liked its design, I found it a real pain in the ass to configure with all the necessary windows crap as well as all the troubleshooting that was frequently needed. It's a real hodgepodge of apps and was more than what I needed for my workflow. Imaging became a real pleasure when I switched to the ASI air system. Everything is designed to work together and the companies support for troubleshooting was quite good. I don't feel constrained in anyway with all the fine options and hardware they offer. My imaging sessions now are a breeze and a joy.

Great feedback! There is an appropriate solution for everyone and people should pick the one that best fits their needs. I'm really happy with N.I.N.A. which has been trouble free and the Target Scheduler plugin fits my needs perfectly so I'm sticking with N.I.N.A. But I always give praise to the ASIAir because based upon a person's needs if it fits them it is a great value. Thanks for taking time to view and share a comment. Much appreciated. 👍

Another great video Bill, looks like the mini will work with my set up according to one of the cloudynight posts.

Btw just a quick tip in NINA you can drag and drop the file name / descriptions into image file pattern box. So for example you can drag and drop $$HFR$$ into it, you don't have to type it out :)

Bill, Once you have your target selected whether in Stellarium (mount control must be active) all you need to do is import the coordinates into NINA, under 'Framing wizard'. Click, get coordinates from planetarium. If you have 'Offline Sky Map' installed, under 'Image Source' an image will appear of your target then just rotate the frame as required. Then goto add target to sequence and you are good to go. Or you can select a target from framing wizard then rotate. Line up your camera sensor horizontal to your rig by moving the rotator; I use a level (Plug a USB drive into your camera USB port to put the level on) then set as mechanical zero as you did in the video, now you have the camera in the correct position. There is another function for the rotator and that is reverse. I believe if in the Northern Hemisphere it needs to be turn off. I did notice yours was off. I'm in the Southern Hemisphere, and I need it to be on. Caution though if it needs to be change make sure the rotator is parked to zero before switching. Also you can connect the rotator and filter wheel to your USB connector on the camera to eliminate some cable issues. Keep in mind, if you do this then you will not be able to control them from your Pegasus power box if required, and if you disable the camera from the power box then that will also disable the rotator and filter wheel. So if you can plug directly into the power box. Do a test at home before going to your dark site. All the best for your dark site trip clear skies.

Thanks! I'm doing well. I took time off from astrophotography to focus on training with my wife for two pickleball tournaments we'll be playing in Aug 24 and Sept 1. We've been on the courts 8 to 7 days a week, plus I've been doing gym workouts, so there has not been much time or energy left for astro. 😉 I'm about to release a video explaining where I've been and that I plan to be back in the field on a regular basis starting Septemeber new moon. ~ Bill

Thanks Bill, great video as always. I don’t have any experience with rotators but, wouldn’t be better to connect the rotator directly to the camera than to the filter wheel? That way only the camera will rotate leaving the filter wheel on place so the balance of the setup doesn’t change. That would not matter with the AM5 mount but it would with other mounts. Just wondering.
@AstroVagabond
@AstroVagabond 9 месяцев назад
That is a reasonable question to which I don't know the answer. To me where I placed it seemed reasonable. But I'm in learning mode so open to the thoughts of others. Key thing is to get it into the field and see what I learn.
@robinbrown3896
@robinbrown3896 9 месяцев назад
Sounds like a good idea, but the setup on how you have it is correct, as the filter wheel needs to rotate as well. if it doesn't the none of your flats will work correctly.
@bbroastro
@bbroastro Месяц назад
@@robinbrown3896 Not just that, but you want your filters are close to the sensor as possible.

Glad NINA works for you. The Air is probably more aimed at the general market vs someone who better understands the hobby and needs more features/devices. That said I still believe the Air provides a valuable place in the market for beginners or folks with a bunch of ZWO equipment. Good luck with your new equipment.

Hi Marvin hope all is well! Yes the ASIAir is a fine product and I would never discourge someone from using one. Only they can determine if it meet their needs. As a beginner I did not have a vision yet on how my needs would evolve in this hobby. I'm glad I purchased mine so I could gain first hand knowledge about the platform. By using them I was able to assess their suitability based upon my needs which were evolving. Clearly my vision is to have a telescope in a remote observatory at some point which has created a set of needs beginners may not have. The remote observatory vision ever becoming a reality is a long shot but it does me an idea on how I want to build out my hardware and software capabilities for my EdgeHD 8.

Hello Bill, I buy same rotator as yours and I have issues connecting to Nina. Do you had trouble connecting to Nina with yours ? Sincerely Jean-Louis
@AstroVagabond
@AstroVagabond 8 месяцев назад
Hi Jean-Louis, so far no problems connecting but I've only connected a few times. I'm using NINA BETA 3. What version of NINA are you running and do you get an error dialog box?
@jlastrophoto

Hi Bill, thanks for your quick response. I am running Nina latest stable version 2.3 I think. Nina says : your rotator is disconnected please plug it again? I change my cable et check everything. Nothing wrong. I will try to connect the rotator to an other computer to see what’s happening. Thank’s again Bill JL

@@jlastrophoto Hi. I have the same rotator and have not had any issues connecting to NINA. Make sure you have the power plugged in. It might still connect with just the USB, but it is supposed to have the power connected too.

@jlastrophoto I am currently renting a remote scope with a Wanderer rotator and I have also had a heap of problems with the rotator disconnecting. It seems that there may be an incompatibility with the pegasus power box (there is a thread on Cloudy Nights about this). I partially got around it by performing the following sequence of instructions in NINA just before the actual rotation : disconnect the rotator / switch off Pegasus USB port / wait 5 sec / switch on Pegasus USB port / wait 5 sec / reconnect the rotator / wait 5 sec / do the rotation. When the rotator does its random disconnect thing it may lose its home / zero position and may need to be re-homed. Its a real hassle and the biggest problem I am facing with this particular remote telescope.
@wandererastro5003
@wandererastro5003 5 месяцев назад
@@PhaseForth Hi, the latest firmware for WandererRotators solves the problem of loosing the home position. In previous firmware and drivers, the home is stored in the ASCOM driver. When the driver crashes or been updated, the home position will be reset to zero. However from the firmware version of 20240226, the mechanical position is stored in the rotator chip so disconnecting or reinstalling the driver will not erase the home position (unless the rotator is suddenly powered off or USB disconnected during a rotation) :) You may try it out.

Please tell me which power supply is used?
@AstroVagabond
@AstroVagabond 7 месяцев назад
The rotator requires 12 Volt 0.5 Amps DC power. I provide power to the rotator through my Pegasus Astro Pocket Power Box Advance. I use a Jackery powerstation to provide 12V DC to the Pegasus Astro Pocket Power Box Advance. I hope this helps. lol! Well I wanted to give the ASIAir a chance because there are many pro's but moving to wanting to shoot two targets in a night thus requiring a rotator if I wanted to sleep sealed the decision. 👍
