Fleming Way. Constructed in 1967 is finally being demolished to make way for Swindon’s new Bus boulevard scheme due to be finished in Autumn 2024. This video was filmed on the day that Fleming Way closed to buses and most traffic.
Great video, glad that it shows all of Fleming Way rather than just little bits.. it may not be the prettiest thing in Swindon, but it's been around for a while
It's a shame the council never really kept the area well. Bushes were never maintained mud patches got muddier instead of being cared for, railings never repaired. Conservative Council of SBC just let the area decline thike they have the rest of the town :(
That was early on a Sunday morning - about 7.30 am. But I take your point the town centre is not what it was. A reflection of a lot of the identikit town centres up and down the country systematically destroyed by greedy council rent prices, the move to online shopping and the final nails in the coffin - covid.
Great video. I was gutted once I realised it was being demolished and had planned on capturing some of it but missed the opportunity. Glad you did anyway
Does anyone know if those tiles depicting the rail history are to be preserved, or just ploughed under with the rest of it? At the very least they should be taken up and moved to STEAM.
The reason this is all happening is because Zurich in order to remain in the town and have their new building they said they wanted the area modernised and the underpass gone. So I’ve been told.
@@SharpblueCreative Make Zurich - force them to make that statement = it would be in the planning deeds. They wouldnt to be built around a desolate place
@@SharpblueCreativeWhilst the council foot the bill for the new building of £40 million and Zurich pay rent on their terms. Socialism for the rich and capitalism for the poor. Backhand payments and dodgy invoices are part of everyday at Swindon Borough Council.
