Okay well allow me to go on a rant for a bit basically: the pale king TO ME is an anti-hero because from what I understand about anti-hero's their whole shtick is doing something bad to ultimately achieve a greater good in the pale kings case he committed mass infentcide(did I spell that right?)for what he saw as the greater good witch was saving Hallownest and all the hundreds of thousands of bugs living there he saw it as the only solution the RADIANCE HOWEVER her whole sob story is that "Oh nO i'M gOnNa Be FoRgOtTeN" and she saw the only way to prevent that was kill,infect,and genocide hundreds of innocence who had no say in the matter(witch I guess you could say for the vessels too in a way) thing that's different between the Radiance and the Pale King is he saw what he was doing as the only thing he could do and if he hadn't (sorry for swearing) FUCKED IT UP! Maybe it could've worked but the Radiance however chose the route of revenge instead of talking out of anger and for some reason her anger never died down so while yes you could say that both the Radiance and the Pale King were doing something that they saw as the only way but both were very different the Pale King saw it as his only way in the short amount of time he had the Radiance had alot of time to herself to think of plans that wouldn't kill hundreds but she did it anyway for petty "revenge". Ok rant over I don't really care if you agree or not just wanted to say my view on things.

There's no implication that the king doesn't have any emotions. Other higher beings, like the white lady and troupe master Grimm, obviously have emotions, and there's no in canon text that says that he didn't have them, if I recall correctly. It's not stated one way or the other, but based off of the cutscene after you complete the path of pain, it's implied that he simply repressed his emotions in order to do what he thought was best for hallownest.

His dream-nail dialogue is no cost too great. He doesn't seem to regret what he has done. He just seems to be sad that it didn't work.
