I almost never comment on RU-vid but I figured my thoughts would be appreciated here. I write this as a university student on the cusp of graduating and as someone who has recently decided to learn Korean. Dan, your videos are some of the best content on everyday life in Korea as a foreigner. In this niche category, it's almost impossible to find other vloggers who aren't either English teachers or those who talk from the perspective of a woman in Korea. Your videos with the lads have often had me in tears, and its been so cool to see you navigate around Seoul, Jeju, and all places in between. I agree that your videos are a tad all over the place, but for the most part, I've been binging several videos at a time. Your charisma and energy behind the camera are not exclusive to the content you've made in Korea, as I found the Berlin videos to be just as interesting (although I am a history major so I really enjoy the educational bits). I've subbed to the new channel and am excited to see where you end up next. I think the takeaway from this channel has been the ease at which you can just pick up a camera and go. I hope that in the future I can do something similar in Korea.

As long as I can watch you it does not really matter to me. Whether Korea, China, London etc… it is you, your life, your personality that I connect with, not where you are

I’m coming to this a little late but we just came back from our first trip to Korea last week. Late last year I researched on YT a ton of places to go that were not the usual tourist traps in Seoul and literally your videos never showed up ever until about a week before we left. I’m not sure why but maybe that has something to do with your low subscriber number. I subscribed straightaway and got a bunch of good spots to go so thanks for that you deserve many more.

From what I've seen so far I feel like content related to talking and learning from locals suit you best - just like you said. I also feel like the German videos didn't appeal to me as much because the mood of the buildings and the weather was a bit gloomy (brownish-color) compared to your Korea content. Cheers for all the videos & interactions in the comments Dan! I was initially drawn by the Korea subject but I love the vibe from you and your mates so overall it's become a 50/50 split for me. Honestly I didn't watch the Germany videos because it's a country I've visited and not somewhere I was particularly interested in learning more about, but if your overall theme becomes exploring the world it's definitely something I'd be interested in and make sure to watch everything from. Regardless, just do whatever makes you happy and I'm excited to see what's coming on the new channel :)

To be honest, Dan, I cannot figure out why you have so few subscribers. Your channels content is fun and informative, and your videos are edited well. I hate that stupid channels succeed; meanwhile, a genuinely good channel like yours struggles to get started. I initially subscribed to your channel because it was about Korea, and there are no other fun channels like yours about Korea, so I hate to see you leave. However, if you take your personality to other places, I believe that will be great too.

I think you should go to where you are still poked by curiosity because it will generate that much more interesting questions and encounters which will probably reflect on contents you make and viewers.

Why did I start following you Dan, and subcribed to your channel, it's not because of Korea, you happened to live there and make videos there but the main reason it's your positive energy, your personality and your funny humor sense. For me you are a Travel Vlogger just like me so following you around the world sounds perfect!!! Now about the new channel I believe you are right , the RU-vid algorithm is pain in the a** very stubborn and whimsy. 1 clear theme can only be good but then again RU-vid is so random. Hi Dan, Sorry to see you go. I live in Korea and i have watched all of your videos also the ones from Germany and generally i enjoy your videos. You ask for some comments. So this is not a critisism of your channel, but just my 10 cents of what i like and what i don't like about your channel. Lets start with what i don't like: Drunk or party videos. This seems to me that you are not serious or passionate about what you do. Keep the content sober. Also i dont like when you make fun or mock the locals. Always remember you are visitor/guest in their country and you should embrace and explore the quirkeness of the locals, wheather it is in Korea, Germany, or whatever. Now what i like and enjoy about your channel is: Your direct approach. you are not shy or afraid to get your camera out. Your unscripted material. Your content is different from other Vloggers. Kurt Kaz's format clearly works for him so I think if you emulate his format but go to different countries then you will attract viewers. I think the appeal of channels like Kurt's is where he is and what he's doing more than him, if that makes sense. He goes to CRAZY and DANGEROUS places which makes people want to click the video and find out what happened. Its Dramatic and intriguing. youtube suggested your channel bc I watch a lot of korean content, lifestyle and music. I'm old, but I am a fan of BTS, an army. I started watching and it was different to korea lifestyle vloggers, in a good way. and you are totally different from me, as I am an introvert and you extrovert, going to all those places and speak with strangers. that was interesting. So I did enjoy this pirate dan channel a lot, better than those boring cafés and cosmetic stuff vlogs. happy to hear there is a new channel and I will follow. never been to asia but I really want to go. of course I can't do what you do, you're a young lad with a good health. nevertheless I have so much fun watching it. Hello. I am a Korean living in Yongin. Recently loving cost risen drastically after the government raised minimum wage to 9160 won per hour. As a worker I do think raising the minimum wage is a better way for poor people to sustain daily life, but you know, actually because of inflation it is getting more difficult to live here. 10000 won is not the same 10000 won even 3 years ago. I hope you had a wonderful time in Korea and come back again.

I first found out about you through Mickey Seo's channel. I thought you were very engaging person to watch, and I laughed my ass off at the rap video. I don't have a channel of my own, but I watch nothing but travel and vlogs. Compared to successful channels or the ones that are on the path of upwards trajectory, I see there are a few differences between them and yours. The lack of clear theme is definitely something I noticed, but I don't think it's the primary reason why the PirateDan channel hasn't taken off. A lot can be forgiven if videos are engaging and entertaining to watch. In order for a channel to hit 100k, you need a few videos that are compelling and appeal to broad enough audience that to go viral. And at least 1/3rd of the videos in your channel to be very engaging to watch, to sustain binging from the viral audience, and then gain subscribers. Even then, you're still mercy at the youtube algo Gods. IMHO, the best thing you have going on about the channel is you Dan, but I feel like your fun side of the personality is not showing through. In many of your videos, I feel there's persistent weight on your shoulder that you have to teach the audience something, deliver facts. Instead of convey that information through your own, you're conveying them like you are a guide. Before uploading a video, make sure every 5-10 second is entertaining. If not, edit it down until it is. Tighten it up. If it is still not fun, then don't upload. Video and audio quality is lacking sometimes, so upgrade your equipment so there's less shake and performs better in low light. Put subtitles that capture your stream of thoughts. You also have to be doing things that a lot of people aspire to be doing, and be the person that a lot of people aspire to be. (btw, conversation with this gentleman ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_NgQz3a2wLA.html was great. That's a unique piece of content that only you have. It also puts focus on someone else besides you. would've been better if you put subtitle and edited down a bit. ) I recommend watching this guy's video, especially the first 8 minutes ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z99wh5lueT4.html Another entertaining channel is ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-btfBspHTSVs.html Her story is interesting because her previous YT channels failed, but this one took off and deservedly so because every single video on that channel is thoroughly entertaining. Even though she claims to make video for herself, she clearly understands her audience well and aims to provide something with each new video. Good luck with your new channel. Don't feel like you have to upload a lot of videos.

I'd watch if you travel anywhere, but maybe you could make it Asia specific, like Korea, Japan,Thailand, China etc. Think you would still get high view count making it focused on Asia as you said the European content gets you lesser views. They’re now at 200,000 and they go shopping in Paris or where they go on holiday. Her husband is a videographer. I’ve noticed people now that are becoming more successful are not talking to the video or even showing their faces it’s more arty and they’ll just have captions It’s not you I think the market is flooded and people are not watching videos that are not in the new art style
