I know Mel McDaniel wrote this, but his vocal on this can't compare to Bobby Goldsboro. I love the soothing, smooth sound of his voice. Love his music. My Mom was a fan of his and had all his albums. I guess that is why I am a fan of his music too. I grew up hearing it.

At the time "Goodbye Marie" was at position #26 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart, five weeks later it would peak at #17 {for 1 week}... It reached #19 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Tracks chart... Between 1968 and 1982 the Marianna, Florida native had twenty four records on the Hot Country Singles chart, two made the Top 10 with one reaching #1, "Honey"*, for three weeks in 1968... Besides the above "Honey", his other Top 10 record was "Watching Scotty Grow", it peaked at #7 in 1970... Robert Charles Goldsboro will celebrate his 79th birthday next month on January 18th, 2020... * And from the 'For What It's Worth' department, "Honey" was preceded and then succeeded at #1 by Glen Campbell's "I Wanna Live"... You know what that annoying clip-clop sounds like to me? I don't know if you ever saw that movie with George Strait. But there was that scene where that guy was tapping on his cheeks with Wooden Spoons. That's what it sounds like to me.
