There was an interview with John Krasinski on here where he talks about Steve Carrell’s last day. He said everyone was really emotional, but John told them to just chill and not make it worse than it already was. Then, as he and Carrell were just about do their last scene together, it hit him all at once as soon as they said “Action,” and he just lost it. in the like 3 scenes they had together ..im sorry but pam and Michael barely had a connection...they had the art day thing but most of that is ryans fault for pissing Michael off that day and making him question his company at the business school seminar...and the time Michael quit but then she tries to get her job back right away and is denied so she has no choice but to go back to the scott paper company so it doesn't really feel as heartfelt.... but most of season 6 and 7 she barely talks to him....she owes him her job, he got her to the hospital for her first pregnancy...she should say goodbye to him....she owed him at least that....she found jim because of Michael...jim only kissed her because Michael urged him to not give up..in a way pam owes her entire life to Michael...yet she constantly makes fun of him....I never liked pam and michaels relationship....it felt one sided....did Michael make her life harder?..yes but unlike Dwight Michael truly always said he loved her....Dwight said I hate pam and she should be fired...so he kind of deserves to get hated and pranked by pam...Michael didn't deserve all the negative behind his back talk she gave the camera crew...he was a innocent child..Dwight did it on purpose..theres a difference....yet she seemed to still like Dwight a lot more....to be fair he isn't an idiot...but still

razkable there were lots of moments where Pam was the only one who would stick up for Michael. In the episode "body language" in season 6, Pam was the only one telling him he wasn't crazy for thinking the bar tender was into him. Plus her and Michael had a relationship that would shift from father/daughter to mother/son. I always thought she joked around and laughed at him but she was always protective of him. I felt like that was the office in general. One of the central messages was they were allowed to point and laugh at each other because they were a family but it wasn't cool for an outsider to laugh at them.

I’m sure this has already been said, but after my 4th rerun of this show I finally realized the meaning of his way of saying goodbye, it completed his character arc. Throughout the show he had always wanted to be the center of attention, always wanted everything to be about him (Eg Kevin’s cancer scare on Michael’s birthday), but this time when it was actually about him, he chose to avoid the spotlight, instead wanting to share a special moment with each of his co workers on his last day that only he knew about (everyone else Jim and Pam aside thought he’d leave the following day), and didn’t care about the good bye party. One of the best characters of any show on TV.

LoKi Because of that scene I cried while watching this one. I have never cried watching a tv show because I was never emotionally struck by any moment. I usually just tear up a bit. Like the last scene in the series finale. About Jim expressing his love for Pam, I teared up there but this scene, I fully cried. Because before Michael came to the exhibit to see Pam's art no one was interested in it. Oscar came with his boyfriend and they spoke bad about it while Pam eavesdropped. Which made her feel hopeless about her art. But then Michael came at the end and said he was proud of her and offered to buy it. She hugged him and saw how deeply he cared not only about her, but about all the workers. Again, not one for emotions while watching tv shows but that was absolutely heart breaking.

I love how even though Michael was consistently inappropriate towards Pam throughout the whole series, they both share the most heart-tugging moments together. Their friendship really developed into a warm father/daughter style relationship. It was so fitting and tear-jerking for her to be the only person from the office to see him off.
@mindeloman
@mindeloman 6 лет назад
You have to remember, at the beginning of the show, the office staff only tolerated michael, because he was a deluded and insensitive jerk. Jim was probably the first to come around when Michael crashed jim's house warming party. Jim had pitty on him when he knew michael literally had no one else in his life. He got up there and sang islands in the stream with michael. Slowly all the characters came around to michael, even Stanley and angela. Pam and michael's relationship has to be the most complex. It started as michael - creepy boss - and ended with pam and Michael on older brother / younger sis level. The comedy of the show sometimes overshadows Michael's meaningful nature, in spite of his other character flaws. He would do or give anything to anyone who worked there. He really did see them as a family, for better or for worse. When you look at great sitcoms over the last few decades, all of the characters are fairly one dimensional. Friends, frasier, cheers, and even sein feld. But Michael Scott has to be one of the most complex characters to hit the small screen. So much going on in that character.

All this man wanted was to make others happy regardless of his methods. When he got into a mindset that was actual seriousness, he was unstoppable. His whole idea of unprofessionalism makes memories is paramount. He deserved happiness the most of everyone and nobody really took him seriously, but he kept it up for his friends as if he was truly among those closest to him. Michael's whole character revolves around chaotic good: wanting the best for everyone even if it costs him everything. The dedication he had for a crumbling paper distribution company was the perfect example of his love. The moment we saw Michael and Holly in the same room for the first time we finally knew he was complete. He fought through constant torment of losing his friends from downsizing, promotion for Jan's job, the company going bankrupt, Sabre threatening to ruin the branch, the life threatening events of his friends lives, broken promises from his past, his inner ego getting the best of him, and even horrible lovers and even then he came out truly happy. I hope Michael is living his perfect life with Holly, he deserves it. World's Best Boss.
@modrenwarefare

0:21, Michael finally comes to the realization that the people he works with and lead may not be the family he wanted, but now that he has Holly she makes up for each one of them and more. However, even though they may not have been the family, Michael wanted. He did in the end make the office feel like family. And without Michael Scott, they would not be as close with each other as they are. He did accomplish that goal, maybe just not in the way he expected. The part I like about this is it’s almost kind of like Michael is saying my work here is done. And now my real family is calling me, and I’m going to answer that call. There will never be another show like The Office ever again.

It starts with her pretending to care about the Dundies when he is saddened by the indifference of others, then he shows up at her art show, she goes with him to help him in his own company. After that, Pam seems to legitimately care for Michael in seasons 6 and 7, advises him and cares a lot about him. I think the writers rehabilitated Michael Scott’s image in Steve’s final season so it would make sense that the other characters would be sad to see him go. But was he a good person? He hit Meredith with his car, he got mad when Kevin’s cancer scare stole his thunder on his birthday, he constantly sexually harrassed Pam and Ryan, he threw Dwight under the bus multiple times. I wouldn’t say he was necessarily a good person.

Maxwell Shapiro Season 9 was ok, the finale hit every note imo. It felt weird because the show really rested on Michaels shoulders and when he left, it was still really funny it just felt weird without his presence or his opinions on everything, their really is no TV character of the 21st century in the comedy genre that is as revolutionary as Michael Scott. It’s a dam shame Steve Carnell never won a Emmy

I'm in tears. Do you remember when Michael created The Michael Scott Paper Company and forced Dunder to negotiate a deal with him? Pam was so proud when he had them by balls and refused to take an easy deal. Michael got himself, Pam and even Ryan back into jobs again and back where they needed to be. I never thought a comedy could touch my heart the way this show did.

Michael and Pam always got along but I felt their friendship really elevated when she left to work with him in his own paper company. No one, even her, thought he would succeed but she went along with him. And in the end he did so well, even though they were about to go bankrupt he stole enough clients for DM to bend backwards to get them back.

I realized this after watching this series like a hundred times. First time he broke up with Holly was because he couldnt leave his job. At that point his job was too important to him that he couldnt just leave to be with the love of his life. But at this point I think he realized that Holly is more important to him than Dunder Mlifflin. And I think we need to be mindful of the context of what Dunder Mifflin is to Michael Scott. He stood by the company when Jan sued, he stood by when it went bankrupt, he called it his family and treated it that way the entire time. Michael Scott didnt give it up the first time and paid the price. So he let it all go to be with Holly not the repeat the same mistake.

Because of that, I’ve never watched a single episode (with the exception of the Finale) that took place after Michael left.

It’s amazing that a television show could do this… To convince you so well you’re a part of a real team with real people who all develop real relationships that when a fictional person has to leave everything behind, you feel every emotion of somebody leaving your life as if it were real. i just knew on the list Pam would be the last person to say goodbye. It just had to be that way. Her and Jim were the first people we see on episode one with Michael. I was going nuts as it seemed she would miss him but as she scampered off with her shoes in hand it was #$#%@ perfect. Pam and Michael had a connection that was as important as Pam and Jim in many ways. They supported each other when the chips were down even more than Dwight and him. I loved when she left the company with him when he went on his own and he rewarded her for her loyalty. Michael had a special place in his heart for JIm as well and Dwight but Pam knew him best and he trusted her completely. As always the most touching scenes of the show involve Jenna with no words needed. Actions speak so much louder than words. As always the Office knows how to make these moments real!
