Steve I found if you put the TV launcher app as the first app on the top row of the Apple TV dashboard you can scroll and click into any channel off the very top row you don't even need to go in to the tv launcher app itself
The problem with Now TV Entertainment pack is the lack of channels compared to Sky stream Entertaimnent. We like all the crime channels like ID an C&I. Now TV just gives you Sky Crime.
Well I have been approached by Sony and want me to review TVs so maybe that’s good but I am about helping you guys and where we can save money using Tech
Just a quick tip. I see you have a Dolby vision tv. To stop your Apple TV running in Dolby vision all the time ( even the menus) If you set the Apple TV to 4K 60hrz SDR but make sure you allow match frame rate and dynamic range. The Apple TV will then run the menu in normal standard SDR but go into Dolby vision when you select appropriate content. It used to drive me crazy when the box was in Dolby vision the entire time. Hope this helps :)
You put £5 in on your now tv pricing up for Uhd. Now TV doesn`t have UHD. Takes it to £34. Also add in £12 a month on multi room for stream and £5 for ad skipping. Both of these are inc in boost. Takes Stream to £67 in comparison for what boost gives you. 😁 Also cancel your Boost at end of month and i got a offer of £2 for 3 months 😁 If your not bothered by live TV or have a TV aerial for Freeview, then Now TV is by far the better option imo. Nice look at the Apple TV, never realised about the TV guide on there pretty decent. How well does the match frame rate option work as can be a pain for other streaming sticks as some don`t output itv/bbc/now at 50hz and have to manually keep flicking between 50 or 60hz depending on app.
Did you try and cancel 'Boost' too. £5 is the full monthly cost. I'm currently paying £2 a month for 'Boost'. If you go to cancel and get a offer like that it's still a saving. I know not much but still something.
Great videos! Appreciated, any idea about the broadband, would you recommend still keeping sky broadband and then adding these services Apple TV as extras?
after seeing your review and the other video regarding the tv guide app, i have now cancelled my sky q and ordered apple tv box, used to be with now tv many years ago so will go back to them, £12 with the movie package for 6 months yes please 🤣i havent watched live tv for about 8 months so thats also another factor of leaving sky q, fyi if you tell sky your moving abroad they will cancel you tv package, with a maximum of 4 months left on your contract 👍
Worth noting now tv doesn’t offer ultra hd. Only reason I keep sky is for the sport as the now TV including sport is about the same price as sky if you take everything. And for the benefit of recording, all the over the air channels and ultra hd it’s a no brainier. However for movies and entrainment customers it’s rather difficult to justify.
Just to clarify something.... now tv only offer 1080HD AS boost, they don't offer untra HD or dolby atmos or dolby vision only 5.1 surround . I was now tv, and commented on your last video, I have now moved to sky stream from now tv, yes it costs me 30 more a month, but I am making the most of my oled lg tv and my jbl 9.1 surround sound . I also got 3 months apple tv free also , diney plus for a year with my phone so wanted everything in one place. But for me now I was a now tv person, had thr stream for 20 days and it's staying. Cheers mate.
@Rate My Tech no problem, its not a criticism of your video, but i was a now tv through and through, it was alot cheaper. I got frustrated with spending ££££ on my gear, to not use it to the max potential . Plus I have paramount plus free now woth sky, which also offer uhd dolby atmosphere and dolby vision . Yes the cost Increase is there, but now iv done it and worried about it, it nkw makes sense pal. Now tv is great for the climate we are in, but what was the point in me spending so much on tech to not use it to its potential.
I came to this conclusion myself about 3 years ago now. Ditched SkyQ - saved a LOT of money (im a bit of an AppleTV expert now!) Your figures aren't quite right theres 2 separate '4k' things - its only boost for NOW. One thing that you may not have been aware of is that on the AppleTV Now's Boost does NOT provide a 5.1 sound for movies which is ridiculous and something that NOW have refused to address - but hey. Your 'included' Netflix on Sky is on the basic package too. Using AppleTV is better than Sky Glass/Stream and considerably cheaper. All made possible by the TV app aggregating content across platforms - it makes the paradigm of 'recording' redundant as Sky Glass/Stream has finally realised (and arguably copied). Netlix are a pain in the butt - they still refuse to play nice with apple and integrate their content with the up next functionality - and they are the ONLY provider in the UK market that refuse to do so - its been the case ever since the TV function launched a few years ago and they still are holding out. Its worth noting and trying... if you use Siri on the remote it will search for Netflix content.. AND show you all the seasons and episodes in the search results - you just cant then add it to up next. So Netflix are half in - half out. Siri can do a LOT on AppleTV - try things like 'Watch Stranger Things on Netflix'..... 'Open iPlayer'..... 'search for James Bond Movies.... - then when the results are shown then say 'only ones with Roger Moore'' - it's pretty impressive and so few people really know how to fully use an AppleTV. Another thing you could mention - as you are in the apple eco system, is the amazingly handy sync of the TV app and up next across your Apple devices - you basically have access to your up next from your iPhone, iPad... and its great if out and about and want to check what's ready to watch... or watch it... or add a show to up next - it will sync to AppleTV and be there waiting for you.... imagine being able to carry round your SkyQ recordings... thats what this is.
I pay for Virgin Media cable box and Netflix and even though I have a Dolby Atmos setup with a OLED TV with HDR, I always end up searching for the Old British hammer horror movies. I think the only thing I've got right is my channel name 🤣
I'm currently on SKY Q, but Apple TV looks better in almost every way. I really like the idea of not being in a long term contract. The one deal clincher for me is watching Cycling, currently this necessitates having Eurosport. Looks like there is the GCN+ app for Apple TV, but reviews of this app are pretty mixed. Great review, thanks.
May I ask what tv sound bar you are using, I had Apple TV for 1 day and had issues with the sound, I’m using a Samsung, Sonos arc. When playing Atmos content was perfect. When playing non Atmos content sound would be jittery and voices would be deep robot like. Only work around was to disable Atmos completely. Had no issuers with sky stream.
Great video Steve, I'm just waiting for Amazon to deliver a Chromecast HD @ £24, I'm going to hook this up to Kapang (for Freeview) and Now to see how that works
I came to the exact same conclusion as you although I'm using a Fire TV Cube (3rd Gen). Sky Stream set me back £54 a month (Entertainment £29, Movies £13 and Whole Home £12) on a rolling 31 day minimum term and I found the content lacking TBH (Subjective I know!). Sky Stream is also way to problematic IMO too.
That’s the issue I think the puck needs to be solid like the cube and Apple TV 📺 but also the apps are crashing so I am testing the cube to see what this offers
Actually that is true I have been giving sky stream a chance lately since the update and it’s upped it game a little bit. But for movies Apple TV still hands down one of the best
Hi, I’ve just got the Apple 4K tv, running it on a Samsung OLED Tv a year old, watching Saturday Kitchen on bbc iPlayer, when they walk about or move their head it seems to jagged like it’s not catching up, when I first plugged it in I used my iPhone to calibrate the picture, is there anything I can do to make it better?
I have had Apple TV 4K for a month. I find that in the video and Audio settings it is best to have the video format set on 4K SDR. Make sure the match content is turned on for both range and frame rate. This makes sure that when you watch say the iplayer that the content is shown at the broadcast quality that the content makers want you to see it in. Currently Iplayer on ATV does not support UHD or HDR. Hope this helps.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us! We are currently using Sky Q and we are cancelling. Got the Fire sock 4K max today but the picture quality is much worse than Sky Q for some reason! What is the most noticeable for me is the brightness. So looking at Apple TV as an alternative. You mention you also have Sky Q. Do you think Sky Q and Apple TV are of similar picture quality?
@@stevemarruk It's not the same in apps... The ability to switch between BT Sport, Sky Channels and Free to air channels etc and also record quickly with Sky Q. Streaming platforms are way behind at the moment. Especially when you look at the US. Hulu live TV +, Fubo TV etc... now they're proper streaming replacements for cable television. In and out of apps isn't the same.
