I was a six-year-old boy living in Ireland when I first heard this song! I fell head over heels in 'Love' with Sophia Loren and Nancy Sinatra - They were so lovely! As for Peter Sellars - when he was given the right part - such as "Dr Strangelove" - he was simply the best of the best! That they would make such stars!
Produced by George Martin (Beatles) who also did Right said Fred with Bernard Cribbins all at Parlophone pre-Beatles. Classically trained and without him the Beatles would never have succeeded. Controversial statement but true.
Yes, you're absolutely right. Truly, George Martin was the Fifth Beatle, as much of a Beatle as the rest of them. He organized lyrics that were often disorganized, and his arrangements gave creative impact to their songs. His mentorship was probably equivalent to earning a Bachelor's degree in music, and their learnings impacted their music for life after the Beatles. I was surprised when I read that he died recently (2016)--I thought he had died long ago, and that's because he's been overlooked during the past several decades.
The fact that he also produced Gerry and The Pacemakers, Cilla Black and Bernard Cribbins and so many acts that never became Beatles-huge tells you that the Beatles’ success probably would have happened with or without George Martin. He was important to the band but not integral
The video clip was from the film The Millionaires, but sadly the wasn't in the film, must have been done afterwards. Anyway Thanks for posting, used to love this song as a kid.
This was repeatedly played on All Indian Radio in Sixties and Seventies by request from listeners on a program called "listeners choice". Friday evening and Saturday nights. Those were simply humble days. Great days then....the word racism was never heard of then. AND I AM INDIAN And even now I listen to that song. Brings back sweet memories. I remember going to the movies to see Peter Sellers in THE PARTY. He acted as a fumbling Indian there too. BRING BACK THE OLD DAYS!!!! Don't forget Bill Forbes classic "Oh to be England " Another classic in those days. I remember my uncles dancing to this tune. Peter Sellers inspired Bill Forbes. GOOD OLD FUN DAYS.....BRING THEM BACK PLEASE !!! We seem to have eaten the fruit of the Forbidden Tree...if you know what I mean.
I agree. But given the whole Simpsons/Apu "controversy" with white actors voicing Indian characters, you can bet that this song would not be very PC in today's oversensitive world.
This song used to play as a jingle when I was a child and I always thought the singers were of middle East Indian origin 😂...now I see it was late Peter Sellers and Sophia Loren
Yes ,Yes , innocent humour , now considered racist ..ahh the good oh days when you could take the piss and have a laugh ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DJqqoWqD3jQ.html
When I was very young my grandparents had the record and my sister and I played it over and over again. I didn't realise until a few years ago that it was associated with a movie when it was on the telly - I waited anxiously for the song and was disappointed that it wasn't part of the movie. But it doesn't matter, as for me it just brings back happy memories.
Anyone remember Peter Sellers inthe BBC comedy The Goon Show In the 50s and 60s , with Harry Seacombe and Spike Milligan . I think he became famous from this hilarious show and went on to become a famous cinema star . S .KULASINGHI
and the eye that beholds sophia in 1960 and doesn't see beauty needs an eye and head doctor. pter sellers was a difficult man to work with but not one to lose his mind and heart over her.
Actually, I think the difference here is that it's very carefully *not* racist. Peter Sellers is playing an Indian character, but has clearly worked hard on his accent, which is quite deliberately careful and not in itself a parody so as to avoid mocking the target culture. I think, if anything, this is an excellent example of how cross cultural humour is possible without causing offense. (Hindi student here.)
@@andromedaturnbull3512 and what's the song about but a beautiful woman falling in love with a gentle, humble and modest man? (and because he is gentle, humble and modest)
He was actually trying to mimic a Welsh accent but it came out sounding Indian. So he just went along with it . Happens to many folk who try to do the Welsh accent.
This is a prime example of the colonization of cultural stereotypes in conjunction with the exploitation of outmoded binary gender models based on characteristics which were allowed to develop before these individuals were in a position to choose which sex their lived experience informed them they should be. In other words a delightful example of the good old days which seemed so uncomplicated, when humour was meant to be just that and not draped in definitions of hate speech and victimhood. I meant to just say it's bloody funny and glad her characteristics developed just the way they did. At a rough guess I'd say the right pronoun is 'she', yeah a woman.
Oh Putin is in trouble well goodness gracious me For every time a certain man sends drones into the sea A flush comes to his face and his pulse begins to race It goes boom boody boom boody boom boody boom…………
Christ this is so bad!!! First off, it's dubbed, and secondly it has actors with English supposedly as their non-native language (with the exception of Peter Sellers) and all the idioms that go with it, demonstrating this piece of artwork which should have only been left in the makette stage, directed in a traditionally slow manner which does no credit to themselves, nor their fictional characters. What's up with snapping the fingers? BTW: head over to me impersonating Steven Toast.
David McManus ooh you are awful! I used to be a big fan of Dick Emery, but I’m afraid that he wouldn’t get away with his stuff these days. Olivier’s Othello, Guinness as Prince Faisal, Sellers as Dr Fu Manchu… all those movies will have to be burned! Even Christopher Lee said his favourite role was blacking up and playing Jinnah - in a biopic about Pakistan’s first leader. He’d get no platformed if he were still alive!
you're racist because if you're saying this is racist that means you have a problem with this accent. If he was doing any other accent you wouldnt mind.... but because it is Indian thats why you have a problem bigot.
