Pete Seeger was such a contrast in style and subject. He was soft spoken, conservatively dressed, Impeccably polite with a shy demeanor that put everyone at ease. Yet his songs were a mixture of traditional melancholy, radical sentiments and biting satire. He mostly resisted gimmicks and flash and walked the line between radical protest singer and folk historian in quite dignity.
