Nice scenic trail ride off of Highway 4 near Bear Valley. It’s a fairly easy trail with some more challenging sections in the last 2 miles of the east end of the trail. OnX rates this four out of 10, which feels about right. Starting at the West End near Cabbage Patch maintenance, the trail is basically forest service road with a historic cemetery and an emergency hut along the way. After the hut, the trail becomes a bit rockier until you reach a couple of fantastic lookouts into the Mokelumne wilderness and Bear Valley ski resort, after this the trail becomes a bit rockier with some larger boulders that take a little more finesse to work your way through. Probably done early when the wildflowers are blooming after the snow melts. If you want to start with most challenging bits begin at the eastern trailhead near Bear Valley.
