great video as always, but what i dont under stand is, i see that you have the "Google & RU-vid" App installed and also set the Tracking from the "Google & RU-vid" as primary, why you want to add another tracking? isnt it possible just to use the "Google & RU-vid" App? what are the pro and cons between own tracking code and the "Google & RU-vid" App?
Thanks man. Yeah in this case I do have the Google & RU-vid conversion tracking setup. However, I like to measure a secondary conversion action for purchases as well, in case one of the tags stops working, or is tracking incorrectly. The pro's of your own customer events setup is also that you can customise it to your needs. I've talked to brand owners who like to include shipping/taxes in their conversion value and it's possible to that with a custom setup but not with the Google & RU-vid app.

I have questions about the codes start from event "search" to the end. 1.If these events "search","view_item","view_item_list","add_to_cart" will be sent to GA4 event? I guess the answer is Not because there are no GA4 measurement ID in the code(I afraid double tracking because I have set same GA4 events tag in GTM) 2. How these events work for enhanced conversion? I am confused and looking forward to your answer. Thank you.
Hey man, if I'm honest I don't know the answer to Q1. I haven't managed to get this setup working with GTM, or had time to look at analytics in GA4 I'm afraid. Enhanced conversions are only sent for the purchase conversion. The other conversion events are for Google's remarketing tag I'm pretty sure. I'll be releasing a more comprehensive video soon, this was just to help people fast.

Best way to achieve enhanced conversion tracking through Google Tag Manager. I use the latest script the in the customer events to enable the datalayer events and connect the GTM. The rest of the work, I usually do inside the GTM container.
Hello Miles Thank you very much for your videos. I am actually facing some serious issues with conversions tracking. I do have consent mode v2 + consent tags installed on tag manager. I tried the simprosys tag, the ga4 tag and one through tag manager and they are all missing more than 70% of my conversions. My cookie banner gets 92% of consent so it's not the problem. What do you recommend me to do here ? I tried everything and everytime people tell me i'm supposed to get 85/90% of conversions and google just get like 20-30% of the conversions now. So gads doesn't wanna spend because it doesn't record all the conversions. It's driving me crazy... I would be really rateful if you could help me to solve this huge issue.
I'm having the same problem. I don't use a cookie banner because it's not mandatory in North America. I still can't accurately track conversions using Shopify's native e-commerce tracking or any other solution I've found online. I'm also dealing with the issue of Google Ads not spending because it can't optimize for conversions.
Do you need to set up a new Google Ads Purchase tracking or can you just update the current purchase tracking settings in Google Ads. I don't want to lose the existing data and ad algorithm optimization.
Depends, here's what I'd do: 1. If your current setup isn't broken by the new update then setup a new conversion action and set it as secondary. This way you can verify that the code is working and let it collect data in the background. Then on the 28th of August when everything changes, you can use the conversion id/label in the Shopify code. 2. If your setup is broken. Then yes, look at the event snippet for your current primary conversion action and use this instead of setting up a new conversion action.
I previously tried setting up with google tags inside the theme.liquid code, I just followed the steps in this video adding the conversion into the customer events custom pixel. Should I remove all of the previous tag stuff from my theme file????

Hey Myles, I suddenly noticed a drop in conversions and found this to be the reason! So thank you for putting this information out here! I do have a question about Google Tag Manager. I understood from Shopify support that Google Tag Manager is also no longer present on the checkout page. Wouldn't it be better to also have the conversion linker and remarketing tags (through Tag Manager) on the checkout page as well?
Is there a way to stop duplicate counting of transaction valued? In the old method, we had "{% if first_time_accessed %} ... {% endif %}" wrapped around the event snippet. Your code doesn't seem to have any.
Good question. In my accounts I've got a 'repeat rate' of 1.00. I think that it is not needed anymore. Customer events relies on Shopify's standard events API to send events to Tag Manager. The old method used page loading to trigger HTML code that then sent an event. Pages could be reloaded, hence why it was important to have {% first time accessed %}. Customer events only sends one event per purchase, add_to_cart as it uses Shopify's API. So there's no need for it.
If I hover over the 'active' in the Google conversions dashboard (shown in 6.20). I see 'Active', no menting enhanced conversions. Is this normal? (normally it says 'enhanced conversions is active')
It's normal if the conversion action is new. Once 10-20 conversions have registered and there's no mention of enhanced conversions then you should check the setup.
Why do you need to remove GTM code in the theme liquid before installing the customer event tracking code? I still want to track calls and emails and form submissions using GTM. Thanks
@@mediocreking698 When you are using an updated script in the 'customer event' section, you don't need to do anything in the theme.liquid file. I usually use another script in this customer event section that connects the GTM through that. So, once GTM is connected, tracking any event is piece of cake.
Hey Myles thanks for this - I set up conversion tracking previously in GTM with your old video. I've since also seen your video about setting up cookie bot. Am I right I now need to do the following: 1. Remove the code from my shopify theme that I did for GTM 2. Set-up using this this method which now links direct with google ads My question is then your consent v2 cookie bot video says that needs to go via GTM, how should I set up consent v2 now we're linking direct to google ads?
Hey Freddie. Welcome. I would keep your setup the same unless it is broken. I haven't found a working method with GTM yet, but that would be best for you with consent. I also need to figure out Consent mode v2.0 with this setup so I will try to make a new video soon.
