When I click "Google Drive" on my desktop, it doesn't look anything like this. It opens in the file manager, with no instructions on backing up folders or anything. How do I open it like this?????
Upto halfway through, demonstration is clear, BUT the dialog saying "Differences between sync to Google Drive and back up to Google Photos" I do not understand, and do not "Got it".
how do you set it to only sync specific files or folders. seems everything I am doing syncs between my computer and google drive and my computer hard drive keeps filling up
No, I do not think it will free up space unless you are using the Google drive as 'backup' only and not to sync in case you make changes to the files. However I am not an expert and is also seeking some answer from anyone about if I use sync function to google drive for desktop and also use the mirror function, does that means that I have 2 copies of the same files on my computer? One from the original sync file and one inside the G drive.

If you don't have it set already, use 2FA or MFA (NOT Google Authenticator). The first time everyone will have to ask for credentials from you to log in, but after that you should be fine. Microsoft Authenticator Android phone app might be the cheapest and best solution. The one that left will no longer be able to log in.
