I just want to give you props for intuitively knowing that many of us will have Google products and NOT saying "Ok Google" activating all of our stuff and running us crazy.
A good example of how the Google hub with it’s screen can take our automation that little bit closer to some of the professional integrator interfaces by using voice to turn on devices, scenes and switch inputs THEN BY bringing up the captured remotes on the hub THEN browsing content on the input device all from the one controller.
Well done video Brett. I now have mine all setup the new way and I think it does work faster now. I do have a Roku and it launches my Netflix, Prime Video, RU-vid and The Roku Channel brilliantly. Thanks
Brett it's time for a video on the routines. Where to find it and all the cool stuff that it can do. And you need a video on manually programming the harmony hub to go to an app such as RU-vid or something by controlling the steps the cursor takes. Like if they have a bluray player with apps. How to say, hey google, turn on RU-vid, and harmony will turn on the bluray player, TV, receiver, and everything, and scroll down to RU-vid and turn it on. Harmony is amazing.
Because You test harmony and also broadlink, which You think is more switable for use with Google home and most feature proof? Can You tell any difference in Google home?
I wonder how this would work with alexa on a Amazon Echo Would be choice since i have a FireTV Home and you can just use alexa on the echo to change the input
Hi Brett. I have followed your instructions and it works. However - some of the smart voice shortcuts does not work. But I cannot find where to change them. Can you help?
Hey do this work with a cable box too? I didn't see one not sure what you was using but I got everything going thru my cable box (for power) and wanted to just tell google to turn on the cable box and everything comes on.....?
I know this question is a little out of left field but do you happen to know if it's possible to use Google Assistant to cast content to a Sky Q box? I'm led to believe the boxes are Chromecast enabled
I'm getting a " has a security restriction" when I try to make voice commands to my harmony hub. I've been using my harmony hub with Google assistant for years, and I've never had issues before. Any suggestions
How was you able to control your AV Receiver volume because I'm having this issue where when I turn up the volume on the nest hub it turns the volume up but then puts the Receiver on mute right after ?
Can I use voice commands to have the Harmony start my native smart tv Netflix/RU-vid apps? Also with a chromecast hooked up to a tv you can use Home voice commands to start specific netflix/youtube videos, is this also possible with the harmony hub?
Hi, may I know if Harmony Hub can be used to control other devices with IR such as Air Conditioners? If yes, is it showed as a remote control or a thermostat like Sensibo sky in Google Home Hub? Thank you.
Ah thanks so much! I've had a harmony and a Google home and was so frustrated with "ok Google tell harmony to turn on Apple TV" and etc. I have learned a ton from your channel! Keep it up!
Hi Brett. Is there away of adding harmony scenes to a routine in google? I have RF plugs on a broadlink rm pro that I want to put into a routine with my harmony scenes.
I have same Harmony.. with my Google home. I have it all linked up but mainly use the remote. the Google home at this point still works to control my tv?!?! at this point though
How do you turn off everything using assistant ? I have the same Logitech setup but when I say turn off the TV - it only turns off the TV activity and leave the other devices ON. :-(
Is there away that Harmony can talk to the Google assistant and do the smart lights? I have a Harmony remote but it seems Google can only do Harmony commands. I would love to hit a button on the Harmony remote to dim light instead of shouting "hey google" every time. It's like the communication is one way. Google Assistant to Harmony remote. It would be nice if it go the other way. Harmony remote button to Google Assistant command. So hitting one of the programmable buttons would send a Google assistant command to "dim living room lights to 30%"
Thanks for the video Brett. I have this set up as well although I only have a Nvidia Shield and XBox so the actions I can use are limited. Maybe I'll play around with "Movie night" commands and others that can be set up on the Harmony Hub or Google Routines. Once the Home Hubs are available in Canada, I'll do more.
@@TechWithBrett Me too. Probably a French marketing thing that needs to be done first. That's why it was only released in US, UK and Aus. Can't find a deal on eBay either. Hard for us early adopters to wait. lol.
Thanks for your great videos. I'm hoping you can tell me how to do the following, assuming it is even possible. I have two Harmony Elite remote controls, each programmed to control the home theater in a room. I just purchased TP-Link smart switches, plugs and dimmers. I wish to control both the entertainment and lights together. For instance, turn on Netflix, not only will the TV and HT receiver be set up, but the TP-Link light control will shut some lights and dim others. I have Google home and the Harmony remotes setup so that I can use voice control to operate the lights and home theater separately. So I have to command the HT to turn on, followed by the light control commands. I would like to do this all with a single command. I have the Google Home, Harmony Kasa and Smart Things app. Thanks for any help!
I'd say there are two ways to do this. 1. Add your Kass Lights into SmartThings and then add SmartThings into Harmony and create an activity where it does this. A SmartThings might be required to work but it should accomplish this. 2. Create a Google Home routing called "Netflix Time" (or whatever) that completes the following. Activate your Harmony activity then for the second command have it adjust the desired lights. I have a video about routines here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QYw-xuuA2BA.html Hopefully that helps!
@@TechWithBrett Thanks again. Number 1 sort of worked. My harmony app and remote showed the KASA devices as "No Connection" but I was able to work around that. However, the main lights I want to control use a smart dimmer. They turn off but won't turn on, and then only if I set the brightness to 0%. So I'll give solution 2 a shot now.
I watch netflix through my PS4 can set it up and I say "Hey Google, start netflix and it will start my PS4 and launch netflix? or will it only go as far as turning on my PS4?
Great video... but after I changed my harmony hub over to the new setup I no longer have the ability to control the volume of my Google home every command regardless of how I phrase it only controls the TV
@@TechWithBrett more people should know about this, I've removed hue from my GA and back in a few times and it always seems stupid, hope Google is watching this stuff. Cheers
I linked logitech homarny hub to my google mini, it does show correct, but it's not function on voice at all, but my amazon each work perfectly, i try reset the mini, and reset the homarny hub, still the same
Can you show how to setup multiple Home Harmony Hubs and associated remotes? I have 3 hubs with TV and associated entertainment devices. Harmony app within Google only allows me to link one hub and can add the other 2 hubs.
As far as I am aware of it is not possible to do more than one. Have you tried creating a new Home in the Google Home app and linking the second one there?
@@TechWithBrett I searched Google and found a way to do it. I sent an invite to my wife. On her phone I added the harmony app and was able to add devices from a second harmony hub. So you either need another phone or another account(s) to add - check this out: community.logitech.com/s/question/0D55A0000771mBNSAY/how-to-use-multiple-harmony-hubs-with-google-assistant
I added my Air Conditioner to the hub, but I can not find a way to make it not turn off when I switch activities with voice or on the app. it has worked well but I hope they implement an option that works to keep activities running separate.
Love your work Brett. I have a problem. I have my Harmony account linked, but now I can no longer get the page shown at 03:40. When I select Harmony from the list of services, I get a message asking me to "Unlink account". Anyone got a clue how to fix this? Is it going to screw things up if I unlink and relink?
FYI, it turns out that you need to unlink and relink the Harmony service in order to modify activities and friendly names. More info at the bottom of this page: support.myharmony.com/en-au/harmony-experience-with-google-assistant
Ok good to know! I had to do that as well and it actually caused some weird issues but I was able to get it worked out. I wonder if the Sync My Device command does work for this to update the Google Assistant with Harmony changes.
Hey Brett, I stream Pandora to my whole house (wired) audio system via a Chromecast audio. I installed my Google Home Hub, and love how it displays the song info. I was planning on picking up 2 more Home Hubs this week - to display the Pandora song info in two other rooms. Are you saying this will not work? Thanks in advance!
Are you just referring to Multi-Room audio? That should work but I need another supported Smart Display to test. @commanderastig is referring to using two Harmony Hub devices with your Google Account which does not work.
@@blitzbbffl album and songs info should only show on whichever home hub to playing it at. Ex; if you ask Google home hub in your kitchen to play a song, your home hub in the bathroom shouldn't show songs related info. Unless, you put then in a group and have them play a song at same time. Songs info should display in all of your home hub. Hope that helps.
@@TechWithBrett thanks for the reply. I was thinking this might be the only workaround. Hopefully google/harmony figure out a way to have multiple hubs working on the same home account in the near future. Thanks again.
You can go in the harmony settings and set that up manually. But you gotta program it yourself. Like for example, once the power is on, you want the control pad to tap left 2 times (for example) then tap down 3 times (for example) and when the cursor lands on Fortnite, you gotta tell it to hit select. It even has delay timers, like if the ps4/xbox whatever need some time to warm up and show an intro or something. After the say 20 second delay, you can have it start pushing the buttons to get you to the fortnite game. You gotta play around with it tho. You gotta power on your console. Count how long of a delay you need. Then see where the cursor is. Count how many steps, up, down, right, or left does it take to get the cursor to fortnite. Then program it to hit select. It's really easy. You can even have a fortnite activity set up. Like when you say something like, Fortnite time, the lights will go out, the receiver will come on in the right input, the TV wil come on, and the console will pick the game for you. I hope this helps.
Go to your ROUTINES in your google home APP. In the command prompt, I typed in, "TURN ON TV". and a little lower in the google home app you can type what you want Google Home to do when it hear your command. I typed in, "Ask harmony to turn on living room TV". So every time I say, hey google, "turn on TV" google home knows to turn on living room TV. Without me saying ask harmony. And since I have it in my activity to do this. When my TV comes on, the stereo receiver comes on, the fireplace, and the lights go off. I also programmed google home to say, "enjoy the show, you wonderful man", All when I say Turn on the TV. I programmed it to accept all kinds of commands to turn my TV on. It's all there in routines. Routines is in the settings of the google home app. You can also type in asked harmony to change channel to 300. And if you type the command, TURN TO HBO. When you say, hey google, turn to HBO. It will just say, turning to channel 300. Or whatever you want it to say. No more ask harmony. Do this for all your favorite channels. Just copy and paste Ask harmony to change channel to (?Any number?). I never tried the way Brett is talking about. But this way works for me. Hope this helps someone. Oh make sure you save it.
@@TechWithBrett Yes it was unlinked. Some things work like your example and some things don't. Sometimes when giving a command, google home says to do that you have to talk to harmony would you like to do that. Maybe still is a little buggy.
Your "TV" you mean (hdmi) like a cable box...And Television is the Tv its self? I got comcast and want to walk in say play tv and have the cable box come on which turns on my tv.
You can fix all that in routines, in the google home app. Have keywords for whatever room you're in. Like me for example. When I want to turn on my living room TV, I just say, turn on TV. When I want to turn on my TV in the man cave I just say, turn on man Cave TV. I only programmed the TV channels in my living room for the time being. And I have comcast also. I just say hey google, turn to fox. And it just turns the channel to fox 29. Without me saying, ask harmony because I already programmed it in the routines, that, when I say, "turn on TV" I want google home to talk to harmony and turn on my living room TV.
Worked perfectly the first few days, now google recognizes the commands but when it goes to execute them nothing happens , it no longer turns on/off any device thats paired
I can get it to turn my tv on BUT I have to tell it twice to turn the tv off. I unlinked and linked and still it does the same thing. It will control the tv just fine but I have to tell it twice to turn off the tv-anybody know why?
@@TechWithBrett -It's a Toshiba a 43in model and when I first set it up everything worked just fine then after about 6 months it wouldn't turn on the first time so I had to tell it twice BUT it would turn off the first time. Well I unlinked and re-linked the harmony device and now it will turn on the first time but none of my hubs(3) will turn it off the first time. And what's really weird is my alexa units(3) will work just fine if I connect them to this hub. I wish I could get the Alexa's to control multiple hubs but thats another story.
Hi, so basically I need few harmony hubs for each room ? if I have TV in my living room downstairs and also upstairs , I will need two hubs so I can make it work on both TVs ?
I can't imagine many scenarios where talking to a digital assistant to control the home entertainment system can be faster and better than using a single universal remote.
It's great when my wife wants to pause the TV to get me some popcorn...lol But seriously she uses google to "turn on TV" (harmony turns on the soundbar,TV, and cable box) then she uses a dum remote to change channels.
I notice that when you say "turn on WiiU" and "Turn on fire tv", HDMI can switch automatically. How you do that? On my LG TV, I can not do that with my chromecast
