When ever I see those wheelchair accessible signs I never think twice about them and braille on a restroom sign or elevator I thought it was second nature to put them there, but it's nice to know people fought for those privileges and where heard.

@@ycaruzob The ADA Act gives me rights to accessibility. Like today the staff in my condo building noticed that I was struggling with the door and they helped me. The building is ADA accessible. Automatic doors to the front of the building, the gym, and the pool. We have elevators which allows me freedom to move around the building. My day program for adults with Autism put in a chair lift because the building wasn’t accessible for me. I now have access to my day program building. I am grateful for the ADA Act every day! It gives me freedom and rights!

I am heaing impaired. I have deaf in my right ear since the age of 17. I am now 51 years old. My life has been difficult due the lack of hearing. People are often very cruel and impatient. I have lost jobs due to my not being able to understand what was being said. Supervisors would say mean things like "You hear what want to hear!" People can be bullies.

Robin A Farris , I have the same problem. I am completely deaf but have a cochlear implant. My hearing isn’t all that well and sometimes I hear “You hear what you want to hear” too. I can’t get a job even though I have a bachelors degree in engineering. I can do MATLAB, C++ , Autodesk, Solid Works, heck, I know Microsoft Office in and out but no one will hire me because I’m deaf. They say fair opportunities but that’s just a lie. BTW, please please please, if you have a deaf child, request C.A.R.T. (Computer Aided Real Time Captioning) from the school. You child will learn the English language better because the service provider types every word the professor or instructor is saying.

For a video about people with disabilities I'd think Google could do better than automatic captions.

I agree. It's embarrassing, really, that this video on particular doesn't have a caption file attached to it in order to provide accurate captions.

I find it distressing that in 2015 we still talk about disabled people as if they are a problem or so different they do not get drawn into so-called main stream society.

Do they give thought to how big a burden it imposes on society to feed their sense of entitlement though. If you can do a job, sure. But insisting on false applause from the entire world.... isn't that just another sickness. Handicap parking spots stand empty while the rest are used. Expensive building modifications and codes imposed on new buildings to accommodate what is rarely if ever used. A golf club where only able people come is required to have wide ramps and special oversized toilets. Instead of massive clumsy wheel chairs in expensive modified cars and special parking lots, how about some motorized leg braces so they can stand up with a thin footprint like the rest and pick up the wheel chair from the back or even use that standup brace as the means for mobility. Fix yo shit, instead of imposing a lot on the 99.9999% others. Same with the insanity that electric cars must have artificial sound to cater to the super few blind people who move in traffic. Devices for them, not imposed on the entire world. I can't remember the last time I have seen a blind person out in traffic. And the best way to deal with handicap is to make sure it doesn't happen in the future. Genetic screening, no medical botches, not promoting wars based on lies. I'm looking at you, evil google. Proactive instead of sickly patchwork and pc pandering.

Valid points against the discrimination act but we live in a society where this is impossible. We have to bend for the weak, the elderly and the young. One day you might become one of the weak ones and since we are all equal we must adapt and not discriminate. Human life is worth a human life in all forms (if you are a citizen of course).
@Creaform003
@Creaform003 9 лет назад
Dan Frederiksen the motorized leg braces are not ready for mass distribution and are not suitable for everyone. Want to know something that is suitable for everyone? A ramp. We have enough technology to be able to afford putting in the occasional ramp or parking spot so that people are not confined to live and die in their homes without ever going out into the world. 7.3% of the population cannot walk a quarter mile. 15% of the population have a physical functioning difficulty. 16% have hearing trouble. 8.8% have vision trouble. If you do not see people with physical disability, it's not because they do not exist, it is because they do not feel welcome in "your world". I am a full time carer, meaning I spend allot of time pushing a wheel chair, I have a challenge for you. Spend one week without going anywhere that has more than a 5cm step, or over 1m of dirt that a wheelchair would get stuck in. See how many place's you cant go. See how many floor's you get stuck on with no way down because a single elevator is out of order. See how many time's you have to take a 200m detour because of 0.5m set of stairs.

Dan Frederiksen Imagine change? Change to what? A state that confines all disabled people to their own homes? A state that bring's back eugenics and sterilizes people upon DNA test?
@DanFrederiksen
@DanFrederiksen 9 лет назад
Adam Boyd a state where robotic leg braces is a thing. Think solutions, rather than whining for attention and thoughtless posturing like you just did. What is right now, is not the limit.
