The off axis color shift you referenced drives me nuts. It's definitely more noticeable in low light.

I was very excited about the possibility of upgrading my 6a (which I love) for the 8a. I was thinking about pre-ordering it. Glad I didn't. I tried it (and the 8) in a John Lewis Store on Tuesday and, for me, I found the "corners" seemed to bulge out, given the phone a strange appearance. This _wasn't_ the case with the 8. So now, although not a fan of glass backs (I slap a case on from the get go anyway) I'm contemplating the 8, as I'm with GiffGaff and they're doing a really good deal!

Also stuck with a 6a atm and also considering either buying the 8 soon or waiting for the Pixel 9. I would've just bought the 8a but the price and the bezels really threw me off

Just came back from checking out the 8A vs 8 at the local Bestbuy and comparing them to my daily driver the 6A. Here is the short and sweet, the display panel quality sharpness and brightness is night and day compared to the 6A. The ergonomics and styling is also night and day compared to the square sponge bob 6A. The bezels are the same as the 6A, but they look good because they are symmetrical and rounded, put a case with a lip and you won’t notice the bezels. The only part that is not an upgrade to the old 6A is the camera quality. The 6A camera still much better than the camera on the 7A/8A. I normally take a photo of my car key fob on the palm of my hands, and not even my iPhone 15 Pro regular can match the 6A in terms of details and color balance of closeup images. The 6A shows the texture details much more pronounced and natural. Conclusion, if you are upgrading from the 6A/7A , the 8A is a must upgrade, just for the ergonomics design and the clarity of the Panel alone it is worth the upgrade. $500 - $100 gift card, you basically only paying $400, -$181 trade in for the 6A trade in, that means you are upgrading your old 6A for $220, what is to loose ?

@Oldasianguy the camera bump is the least of my worries , actually I like the bump, it helps me hold the phone up when the bump rest on my middle finger, there are some real updates that matters on the new phone that are actually of value , that new display panel alone is worth the upgrade. I mean you have to put them side by side the 6A next to the 8A for you to realize how bad, yellowish and dim the 6A, I been hurting my eyes for the past year that I been looking at the 6A, looking at the 8A is like I got a new prescription glasses.

Is the 8 really 40% better than the 8a? I know it's not the best way to compare but that's the price difference

Never buy a Pixel when it is first released. Wait several months for inevitable price drops.

I understand the premise of waiting a few months for a phone to drop in price, but what's the point of waiting a few months for a phone to drop in price when you can buy it now and enjoy that piece of tech presently constructed? By now, Enjoy! Now that's just been my model but teaches on 🫣 🤦🏾‍♂️

Have a Google Fi plan and was able to get the pixel 8a for $350. My pixel 7 pros screen was broken and would cost $300 to repair, so getting the 8a on release was a no brainer for me

Useful comparison vid. Mulling over upgrading my s21fe but I think it might be worth hanging on a bit longer for the smaller Pixel 9 Pro.

I went to best buy and i ended up getting the 8a because the color schemes are better than the 8 and the camera bar come out way too far on the 8... So pixel 8a for me and you arent missing much but fast charging, 3 speakers, backwards charging, 1000nits and that's really it. The 8 is on sale rn so if you wanna buy the 8 for the price of the 8a do it, if you decide you want to upgrade when the sale is over get the 8a, simple

I already bought the 8 for $500, but I wish I waited because I prefer the Sony camera sensor in the 8a and the dimmer screen at minimum brightness on the 8a. In my opinion, the 8a has a wider color gamut than the Samsung sensor in the 8 so I'm not sure why you thought the opposite. The 8 has more dynamic range, but colors look grey. The 8a has more color seperation, and a wider color gamut, but clips highlights and shadows sooner. Frankly, I don't even like ultra hdr photos. I prefer just having a wide color gamut and a standard dynamic range.

Pixel 8 is not dim at minimum brightnes xD. The 7a is dim. The 8 is bright. I turn Extra Dim on to max intensity to get it dark enough to be comfortable. I also turn off Adaptive Brightness to lower the peak brightness to 1,000nits to scale the whole thing dimmer accross the range due to how PWM dimmimg works, dimming the peak dims everything. @@rangerkayla8824 For Macro Mode, I think it looks bad and is a gimmic. I turn it off, and it doesn't work with auto night sight anyway. Macro Mode is a dumb iPhone invention that Google just copied for sales. It's a dumb idea in general, imo. I prefer to use the main sensor for macro shots, and I do so regularly by using the natural depth of field of the lens by getting close to objects. In fact, the one camera feature I wish it had that it doesn't have is manual focus. Manual focus would unlock great creativity and creative control much like manual white balance does, especially for macro photography and for landscape photography -- intentionally out of focus shots can lead to great creative effect, and it's a feature I hope they add in. As for the camera, the dynamic range is better on the 8 but the color saturation seems better on the 8a. The 8 photos can look greyscale/black and white and can sometimes have colors that are too dark. But, I do admit that the 8 can look like a $5,000 DSLR sometimes and I think now that I realized Google targeted full frame big sesnor dslr's that shoot in the sRGB color space -- basically pro cameras from Nikon, Google seems to copy Nikon color science. So in that way, that's a cool quirk. But here's the thing, I shoot Sony Mirrorless. So... I prefer Sony color science :/. So yeah, that's probably the problem. Whoever's in charge of the Pixel camera team is a Nikon fanboy and I'm a Sony fanboy. Lols :P. Apple seems to copy Canon color science, which can look cool at first but is ultimately unrealistic. Nikon color science is too dark and undersaturated (sound familiar?). Sony color science is actually the most accurate in the industry, and that is what I prefer. I like Pixel phones because they do pixel-shift fullRGB color info so I want the phones to have accurate colors neither too dark nor too bight, like Sony mirrorless cameras.

Currently i can see the Pixel 8 for 550$ and the Pixel 8a for about 80$ cheaper, as a long-term purchase that's not big enough difference at least for me to choose the 8a
