Interestingly, I was kinda shocked to read a quote from Tont Asher that suggested Brian had uncontrollable fits of rage in the studio and would then just break down crying while listening to playback. He's quoted as saying he was appalled by Brian's behaviour, called him a genius musician but an amateur human being

It was always good how most of the band were supportive/protective of Brian, obviously Carl and Dennis more back in the day but nowadays Al and to a lesser extent David Marks are holdovers of that mentality and they know to respect him.

That's the tricky thing. Brian has always had a fantastic sense of humor, and still has, but he is also slightly whacky and you can never really tell. I get the impression he was kinda joking or not really caring what he's saying. If I were Brian, I'd appreciate an interview which was more like a flowing conversation, and I think I'd find these kinds of "question form"-interviews rather boring, so I'd just kinda give any answer and get it over with.

Maybe they figured Brian wouldn't want one.

It would be rude since they are dead and there is no point in mentioning them because we all know them well.

Maybe it's their way of closure. The fact that their names were mentioned shows respect for them and to constantly revisit their demise may be too painful for them. This whole comment is so wrong that it's astonishing.

They're childhood friends, arguably more than that now - he's like an adoptive brother. Carl would often 'translate' for Brian back in the day. After his tragically early passing, it's lovely to see Al continuing that love and looking out for him.

@@john_pryce9855 yes it was very cool , my brother was working at the gas station and Al pulled in with his wife , my whole family loves The Beach Boys so my brother recognized him immediately 🤣 he was friendly polite and took the time to talk to my brother , who probably kept him visiting longer than he wanted , so he told my brother maybe he should get back to the job before he gets fired and when he told Al that he was more important than that job that he would just get another one,Al laughed then wrote out his autograph on a gas receipt for me and my sisters and it said nice talking with you to my brother, so at first I didn’t believe him until he gave me the autograph 🥰👍🏻PS I know it wasn’t my brother’s handwriting and matched it to my Album cover🤣 take care

Dawn Murphy 83, he Drowned swimming in the sea, After He had taken Drugs, As Dennis had a drug problem, So sad really because Dennis was a great drummer and a great singer, Hes also the man that started the Beach boys.

Brian is better at and more comfortable with doing solo interviews than group interviews. Luckily there are several Brian Wilson solo interviews from over the decades on RU-vid.

Tim Lazar being the oldest he really took the full abuse from Murray(dad). Murray was a very strong business mind. However from watching the biography I think Brian and Murray were much alike. Through all that abuse and learning how not to be I think the result is a Brian Wilson that is very damaged. But obviously a genius. To be able to write the early music to honour the contract and do the producing and literally everything else. He gave dad the boot and had to take over.

Also, egomaniacal Mike Love hogs the mic. Acts like Brian is just a bobble head there. Whew! Man has such an ego and doesn't even realize how obvious it is to most of us out here watching.

That was such an ingenious quick witted answer by Brian. If you watch a lot of interviews over many years of Brian, you begin to realize how much of a genius Brian was outside of just his songwriting. And so honest without worrying about what he will say next. Those are true signs of a well rounded individual.
