I hope this new way of searching changes how I use the internet for the better and doesn't just try to sell me a bunch of products I don't need.

I have a feeling the answers to basic questions will more likely come from sites linked to the top advertisers. So if you ask, "what pizza do you recommend?" How will it decide among thousands of options, which one to choose.

A lot of this assumes human beings don't have their own unique opinions and don't want to decide things on their own. Since that is false, we may be underestimating the practicality of current lists and human interfaces, and AI might NOT be making all current platforms obsolete. Just a thought.

I tried to sign into my chatGPT but was immediately blocked, It told me to turn off my VPN or I could not use it. So, once again, surveillance is the trade-off. I turned off the VPN and was immediately welcomed to the world of mainstream media opinions. I hope Google is better and less invasive.

Did I miss it? Seems not once was Bard mentioned, when several times the other LLM systems failed to give an honest answer and Bard STUCK IT! Perhaps it's just me and my own particular questions... I KNOW coming in, the system hallucinates, so I dig deeper, but it's still helpful. How many times has BingAI and proper chatGPT helped, in just a few months - so many times. Yeah only BIng AI gives something like citations to follow up, so it's my favorite, but seems resources are a problem. The model has answers, but you must POUND repeatedly to get them - I get economics, but gimping a system --at times it's so dumb, other times scary insightful-- , maybe slow it down and I'll be patience for a REAL answer not a knee jerk one. Well, it's a work in progress.

I would contend that Google is not even a good search engine and that it has become ever more difficult to get to the results one wishes to find, and that, as the algorithms and censorship increases. It has become practically useless. This is an interesting Tortoise and The Hare moment where Google was so confidently out ahead in both search and LLM-based generative AI technology 5-6 years ago, that they felt it was possible and even prudent to sleep on the AI tech for a while. Now they're awakening from a good nap to see the perceived tortoise (Microsoft Bing) already across the finish line thanks to a deep, below the radar collaboration with OpenAI's ChatGPT. I agree the longer-term AI race is just heating up, that competition is good, and that Google will definitely make up ground rapidly in the coming months. But Google definitely lost the race in terms of being first to make a surprisingly mature implementation of this technology available for widespread public use. Google is the worst search engine in the history of the internet, When it first came out the results were actual data from reliable sources, not it's just a combination of list of paid ads from sites optimising their SEO, and people's blogs - now mostly written in Chat GPT. It's almost impossible to find what you need / want, only what they want you to see. 'Dead Internet'.

I really dislike this AI bandwagon! I have been in computers since 1964, yes 64. Since the very beginning of computers I have used software tools and the tools get better every year. I have made my living all these years using advanced tools as starting points to enable me to produce software (programs) quicker and quicker and better and better. Now everyone who has a tool to sell calls it "AI" ! It's not, it's a tool! No matter what other tools are used to develop a new tool, it is still a tool.
