I was 10 years old. My father worked as a radio operator at sea on a ship and I was allowed to go with him on vacation. As a gift he gave me a new bright blue Sony Walkman and a cassette of Goombay Dance Band songs. When I think about it now, tears come to my eyes. As I stood proudly on the bridge of the ship and heard the songs .....😢 I wich I can be 10 again🤓 Thank you for the nostalgic moments and lovely regards from Germany.
The Goombay Dance Band, Luv, Boney M and Abba. Heroes of my youth! I`m born at 1974. It's realy a pity that there isn't even such good music today. In my opinion, current music is just depressive. Well, maybe that also fits to the life situation in which we find ourselves. But one thing is certain: In my youth (1980s) the life quality was much more better than today. Despite of the Cold War at this times.
Yes, we had the Cold War. But soon after came Glasnost, Perestroika, the Berlin Wall came down, Soviet Communism collapsed, several European nations regained their freedom, Nelson Mandela came out of prison, Apartheid was finished and the Doomsday Clock was wound all the way back to 11:43 pm - the furthest it had ever been. From 1985 to 1991, there were times of real hope. Little did we know that within ten (relatively) short years, we would see the world changed forever with us living in times of endless wars and the re-emergence of the threat of Nuclear Armageddon, the Doomsday Clock just 90 seconds away from striking midnight and surveillance technology an ever tightening noose around our necks. Where did it all go wrong? 😮😮
This was released (1980) 3 years before I was born but it's such a happy song! Just makes you feel great when you hear it! Unlike todays music which is all about guns, drugs, sex, gangsters and violence! This is just pure happy innocent music with a great tune!!!!
100% agree. Such an upbeat song about missing a loved one. So catchy. And now we have that banshee from Ireland and her ilk at the Eurovision. Dreadful.
As a 12 year old boy living in the UK, I tuned my radio to 'Radio Luxembourg' at midnight, and heard this song, then proceeded to sing it at school for 4 months (before it hit the UK charts). Lots of my schoolfriends thought I had created the song!
@@rhodiusscrolls3080 208 Radio Luxembourg was always ahead of the British stations. Luxy was known as 'The station of the stars'. Include the fade it was an iconic station and always amongst the first to play hit records. Mike Hollis, Pete Anthony, Bob Stewart and more.
Yes these bands and songs were German simulation of Afro Caribbean music They were very successful benevolent cliches and even with continental James Last grammar. The bubble has long since burst especially Boney M religion
@@jonathanjonathan7386 The song was released on an album in 1981 so he would have been about 35. The video could have been made later. He'll turn 78 next October.
I first heard this song at my friend Paul McGroarty's seventh birthday party in Scotland in 1983 and memory must have played tricks on me because I always thought it was called 'Seven Years' (probably because he had just turned seven and therefore it would seem appropriate) but this is why I could never find it again even though I always remembered the melody. Not joking, this is the first time I have heard it being played in all those years. I never thought I'd ever hear it again!
This song always brings a tear to my eye. My dad died 13 years ago, but when I was a small child in the early 1980s he would put this song on to help me sleep because he knew I loved it.
@@mareknowak1675 It's much the same with me i once had a family i am now divorced with four adult children i also live alone and sometimes get lonely but listening to this song seven tears and others with a drink in my hand really makes things better keep your chin up and good luck greetings from Swansea South Wales UK 😃🏴
I have been truly blessed to have lived in the best musical period ever. You just could not go wrong with the music of the day, and this song is no exception, just shows what we really had as genuine talent that was flowing all around.
Dougal Douglas your comment brought tears to my eyes and joy to my heart as i lie here listening to this Gem i reminisce about the MOST BEAUTIFULL AND WONDERFULL TIME IN MUSIC'S HISTORY THE 70S AND THAT CAN ALSO BE EXTENDED BACK TO THE MID 60S THERE WILL NEVER EVER BE SUCH AN ERA IN MUSIC AGAIN THE GOLDEN ERA AND I THANK GOD I LIVED IT GREW UP IN IT AND WILL FOREVER TREASURE IT AND IF ANY1 DOUBT WAT I SAID JUST GO REACTIONS TO THE LIKES OF PINK FLOYD, THE HOLLIES, BREAD AND PROCOL HARUM TO NAME JUST A FEW AND ONE GETS A CLEAR PICTURE OF WAT A TRULY REMARKABLE ERA THIS WAS
@@jeffreyramsey4538 Remarkable, and equally remarkable to hear from someone who truly appreciated the era, even back to the sixties, and what is more the programmes that were aired. They were simple times, nothing fancy, cold, dirty, sweaty, industrious, model making, working with your hands, as children, sitting up in school, paying attention, learning, not whinging, pleased to have something to eat, and to be clothed, not many clothes shops around in the sixties and seventies, and what the hell is a take-away? Someone who could run fast, having nicked something from a shop. I shall always treasure those times, and part of me, and as I look out upon the world I see nothing but self, self, more self, hedonism, pensioners not respected, just self. Dark Side of the Moon I heard being played the other day, in a shop, and it is amazing how many shops are playing the music of the seventies, and some of the sixties, though mainly seventies. Credence Clearwater Revival, the Shi Lites, Hot Chocolate, Led Zepplin, Barry White
@@dougaldouglas8842 yip like Bobby Sherman's Shindig! Omg i just cud not wait for those acts especially the Btitish Invasion,Thw Animals Herman's Hermits,The Dave Clark 5,The Stones,Zeplin, Moody Blues,BeeGees,AND OF COURE THE STANDOUTS THE BEATLES AND PINK FLOYD, SO MANY MORE IF TRIED TO LIST THEM I MIGHT BE HERE INTO TOMORROW but those were the days OF MUSIC OF LAUGHTER, OF JOY OF INNOCENCE OF LOVE IN ABUNDANCE AND ABOVE ALL OF TRUE FRIENDSHIP TRUE LOVE AND BROTHERHOOD
@@jeffreyramsey4538 It was, as you rightly say, the best of the best days, and night clubs featuring all the best of the best, which is not done now. The entire situation now reflects nothing of any lasting worth, just here today, gone tomorrow, amidst a shallow, uneducated populous that is absent of thinking, and questioning, and common sense, and the craze is heavy beat, no lyrics, just beat, whilst mouths pour out the vomit of hearts of sickness, hearts incapable of holding down the mess that is swelling around them, society for one, not for all.

grew up with this as part of my childhood memories and many other great and awesome bands and musicians. todays artists in some genre's just cannot hold the candle.thats how some of the older bands are making comebacks
My Mum and Dad used to absolutely LOVE this song, and I remember it like I was 6 again, so it's a tune that has never lost it's place in my memory! Thanks uploader, respect 👊😎❤
This melody is pure magic, great memories of a very special time, who would have known that the world would change so much. July 2021. Greetings from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
I was 8, my sister was 5 and we sang this over and over again. Such a beautiful song full of nostalgia for me nearly 40 years later. Really a gorgeous tune. :)

Unvergessen!!
Seven tears have flown into the river Seven tears are runnin' to the sea If one day they reach some distant waters Then you'll know It's sent with love from me Here I stand Head in hand Lonely like a stranger on the shore I can't stand this feeling anymore Day by day This world's all grey And if dreams were eagles I would fly But they ain't And that's the reason why Seven tears have flown into the river Seven tears are runnin' to the sea If one day they reach some distant waters Then you'll know It's sent with love from me Oh my darling Oh my pretty lady Golden star that leads to paradise Like a river's running to the ocean I'll come back to you four thousand miles Here I stand Head in hand Lonely like a stranger on the shore I can't stand this feeling anymore Day by day This world's all grey And if dreams were eagles I would fly But they ain't And that's the reason why Seven tears have flown into the river Seven tears are runnin' to the sea If one day they reach some distant waters Then you'll know It's sent with love from me Oh my darling Oh my pretty lady Golden star that leads to paradise Like a river's running to the ocean I'll come back to you four thousand miles Seven tears have flown into the river Seven tears are runnin' to the sea If one day they reach some distant waters Then you'll know It's sent with love from me Oh my darling Oh my pretty lady Golden star that leads to paradise Like a river's running to the ocean I'll come back to you four thousand miles

The late ,great John Dunne used to play this often on his radio show on radio 2 ,sadly missed like Steve wright ,jimmy young ,glad I was around to these greats
I was on holiday when this song came out,it was my mom's favourite song, ... she was bed ridden with pancreatic cancer, and only had a short time to live,I phoned my dad to find out how my mom was ,and dad said if you want to see your mom ,come now, I drove home like a maniac I went in the house I just made it by 10 minutes,it was as if she was holding on till I got home, she asked me to play this song, I played it 3 times , and she fell asleep , I went into the lounge , when I went back she was mumbling , I held her hand, and she just let out a gasp and died .. rest in peace my beautiful mom
Sorry for your loss. I remember this very clearly I must have been 4/5 when it came out. I remember watching the video on top of the pops. I remember my late father singing this song. Such great memories.
I danced to this song in 1980 with my dance teacher Robin.. this and Sun of Jamacia were two lovely songs of the time that I took ballroom and latin medals to.. I was very young then , 25 and I continue to dance to this day with knew knees and hips.. at 67.. Robin sadly died age 51 in America where he emigrated to teach dancing on cruise ships.. he leaves a wife and son... but his teaching and this wonderful music will be with me forever.. memories..
I was only about 4 when I heard this song and its always stuck in my head now I can hear it anytime I want n yes its been 40 years and its still amazing
Great voice and just the 'catchiest' of tunes. From the very first time that I heard this piece some tears ago, I couldn't get it out of my mind. It's like a new experience every time that I listen to it. I simply love it!
