Hi, I'm a lifelong Goosebumps fan and I can correct a couple of the points in your videos. Haunted Mask is not the only book with regional cover. The first 20 books and many of the Give Yourself Goosebumps have UK, Spanish, Japanese and French covers. I own a copy of the French version of One Day at Horrorland, as well as many of the UK covers. Tales to Give you Goosebumps, if I remember correctly was released originally as special editions only available as part of the Goosebumps fan club. There was also some extras included including a very cheap plastic Haunted Mask, multiple book lights, a Christmas stocking and a pair of glow in the dark boxers. I can remember the first one I got came in a coffin shaped box. Click was a short story in one of the Tales to Give You Goosebumps. The Trading cards inside the Goosebumps book were not the same is the Topps Trading cards. The book ones are bigger and lower quality. The Topps cards also have a different art style and show small scenes from the books. RL Stine was a comedy writer before Goosebumps. He mostly wrote joke books and movie novelisations (Ghostbusters 2, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Spaceballs) under the pseudonym Jovial Bob Stine. The best one is 'How to be Funny'. Fox Kids was not a separate tv channel but just afternoon collection of kid's programs on Fox in the states. The Goosebumps comics were pretty good for definitely aimed at children, I think I have a full collection of the issues. RL Stine also did a run of Man-Thing comics at Marvel and has a current comic series called Stuff of Nightmares (which have Fear Street inspired covers). I was able to attend Goosebumps Alive, which was amazing and had it's own special edition books (Night of the Living Dummy, Say Cheese and Die and Haunted Mask), a poster and a soundtrack (it's on Itunes). There were 4 different Teams that were given out at random on little cards (rats, spiders, crows and snakes). No cameras were allowed in the main performance and the scenes were very loosely based on the books. I did a video on the experience on my channel. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gN3UXMbWPfw.htmlsi=trjBV2S3GPmd1y4m I did 3 videos showing my original Goosebumps collection of all the books. I showed off all the collector cards and extras in the books. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dG8HEvoJkJ8.htmlsi=JCnuvEiKeCnCZmaQ Other things you missed out: There was a Goosebumps Cruise that RL Stine attended. The Taco Bell kid's meal toys. The first Goosebumps tv episode, The Haunted Mask, was shown in prime time on Fox for Halloween. This was highly promoted with an interview with Stine in Disney Adventures magazine. Goosebumps Pogs were also huge and had big collections. There were also multiple Goosebumps board games. The Art of Goosebumps is a great book that has a lot of rare knowledge about the series. There are two different modern Goosebumps video games 'Goosebumps the game' and 'Goosebumps Dead of Night'. I would also mention the Goosebuds podcast is also worth checking out if you are a fan. Thanks for making this iceberg.
Most UK covers sucked compared to the U.S. ones, they would also steal stuff to put on the covers like boglings XD lol....dead house had an OK UK cover I guess, was a skull in the middle of a graveyard swirling around in a slime whirlpool XD
With respect and the knowledge that this video may be read as great by some viewers (good for them, good for you), this was the most boring video I've ever seen based on goosebumps OR any iceberg on any subject. It truly felt like a lot of the video was just you reading the points of the iceberg and moving on, or googling the point on the iceberg and reading the first couple of sentences that you came across. You literally defined brail. You read the point about brail goosebumps books and you just defined to us what brail was.
One of the biggest negatives in the second movie is the continuity. It acknowledges events and the location of the first movie...and then throws it all out the window in the final scene. And aside from Jack Black's small return, no other characters from the first movie are mentioned or referenced. Haunted Halloween would have been a bit more tolerable if it was a prequel and featured more monster characters from the books.
Personally, I liked it better than the first. The lead boy I didn't care for, I also didn't like the teen romance angle and I know that Jack Black voiced Slappy in the first movie, but in my opinion, the voice actor in the second movie did a better job.
I remember I think a few months or a year after the first movie came out rumors of the sequel started spreading that the second movie would have been centered around Horrorland. I think it was later confirmed that a movie focused on Horrorland was considered but was dropped I think when Sony got another director to work on the sequel. I still think a Horrorland movie would have been cool
Alright man I gotta lot problems with this video but we can start in reverse order here from things you covered. - Ghostwriters that have been confirmed are Carolyn Crimi who wrote Fun With Spelling in Tales, Kathryn Lance who wrote Why I Hate Jack Frost in Tales, and Scott Westerfield who wrote All-Day Nightmare - the final Give Yourself Goosebumps book. So there’s 3 confirmed - and it’s heavily speculated that from book 17 through the end of the original run (1992-2000) by looking at the Scholastic lawsuit that this was a major factor for why Stine was sued by scholastic. - Glad you added Slime Doesn’t Pay, but did you know it was the person who helped discover Dead Dogs Still Fetch that influenced the Slime Doesnt Pay book to happen? - The Vampire House is a French exclusive book called La Maison Du Vampire. - Click! was a short story from Tales To Give You Goosebumps, so looking for a full book is pointless. - The whole interpretation of Stay Out Of The Basement originated from Poparena’s review of Stay Out Of The Basement, it’s more of a community plug in the iceberg I feel. - The Creatures From Beyond Beyond is speculated to have been Book 27 of Series 2000 called When The Snake Bites and (yes) Series 2000 was cancelled at book 25. The Adventures of Shrinkman comes from the same collection as Creatures and that book is confirmed to be S2K Book 26 The Incredible Shrinking Fifth Grader. Fifth Grader and Snake Bites are the only two unmade S2K titles currently known. - Rocky and Zane are in Bride of the Living Dummy… episode, not the book. There’s a scene with dead dummy parts and you see parts of Zane dummy and Rocky’s dummy, and Zane’s dummy form was exclusive to episode. Dummy 3 and Bride’s episodes get confused a ton in the fandom with the books, a telltale marker if they have read them or not. - The whole Slappy dummy being Mr. Wood originally is an urban legend, it’s kinda like adjoined with the another legend that NOTLD1 got made but only aired once for being too scary for kids. Jose Prendes made a book called The Goosebumps Companion that interviews the show runners, and the ambiguity of the interview did suggest they made the Slappy dummy prior to knowing if Dummy 1 or Dummy 2 being made. But rest assured - the showrunners claim that Slappy was always meant to be Slappy. - The Harry Potter siding Goosebumps cancellation is true, but not the ONLY contributor. The tv show saw the behemoth that was Pokémon come on the airwaves. And historically dealt with AYAOTD. But for the books, it was mostly due to 3 things. A) decline in merchandise deals from Fox post cancellation of tv show/stage play B) Stine’s growing discontent with scholastic trying to take Goosebumps over to Harper Collins books and C) the kids horror book was running its course - in 1997 you can see Disney Channel jumping on the bandwagon with Under Wraps and by 2002, The Scream Team was the final movie of that era - Stine had moved onto Nightmare Room which also ended around the same time - The AYAOTD original revival ended in 2000 - so it was a falling lack of interest. Also there’s so many that wasn’t covered on here in the deepest zone. Like the original audiobooks and Spirit of The Harvest Moon (the only tales short story) getting an obscure one. The Goosebumps Magazine from the UK that has original stories from 2001. FBX Magazine and Funday Times UK comic adaptations. Goosebumps sometimes released stories outside the mainline IP - like TV Guides, Disney Adventure Magazine etc. - that’s how The Homemade Monster, The Surprise on the 13th Floor, and Don’t Open The Monster Blood released. Inversely, there’s also books outside the mainline IP that have Goosebumps stories inside - like Scary 2 having The House of No Return short story, or Tales of Suspense for Boys having Welcome To Dead House or Thrills and Chills Magazine that had 6 tales short stories inside its short 20 issue run. And the unused goosebumps titles is the last I have. Slime Doesn’t Pay and Dead Dogs Still Fetch are the most popular Lost Media because the either recently got made or was found in their entirety. But there’s way more - the Goosebumps Gold titles you mentioned in the video somewhat. Slappy New Year got made in HorrorLand, Stine confirmed The Haunted Mask Lives became Scream of the Haunted Mask, and Happy Holidays from Dead House was never made. Then there are 43 Freakout Street/Feeding Frenzy/The Good The Bad and The Very Itchy/Dimwits Of Doom/Morons From Mars. And this goes without saying the countless title reworkings the franchise has seen. Other than that, and my info dump, awesome video loved your narration of this!
I dislike how whenever he runs into something that is difficult to explain, he skips it. The entire point of iceberg videos is to explain the most fringe facts and theories from a franchise.
15:25 those look like Tim Jacobus covers because they ARE Tim Jacobus covers. For later reprints of the original series, Tim drew new covers for these 2 books. The original Stay Out of the Basement coverart is a hand emerging from a door, and the original Be Careful What You Wish For art has a little girl peering around a crystal ball with 2 hands waving over it
oh hey!!! thank you for that shout out at the end!!!! I was listening to this while taking a break working on my next video! this was wonderful, and a real joy to listen to! please keep it up! I'm excited for what's next!
Holy crap thanks for watching! I love your iceberg videos and you were definitely an inspiration for me to get back into making videos. I'm also super excited to see what new videos you have in store soon!
One thing you forgot to mention about Slappy in the TV series, in the episode NOTLD III, the person who's in the Slappy costume when he comes to life was Annick Obansawin.
Wally is'nt a clone of Slappy. He's his identical twin brother. There is also Snappy. Plus a sister named Goldie. The whole Slappy family and lore is very complicated.
Also, the take on Slappy being a pedo is a bit inaccurate because yes, he does fall for a child, it's not Mary-Ellen. Mary-Ellen is a doll who falls in love with him, but Slappy has fallen with a human child (Jillian Zinman in the book, Katie Zinman in the TV series).
Great video! Loved everything about it. Very quick and minor correction here, at 15:25 you show the rereleased covers by Tim. The original release covers were drawn by different artists. Anyways, good video nonetheless!
Just had nostalgia overload when you brought up the goosebumps graphics line. Used to read those religiously as a kid. Remembered I even tried to make my own version since there was a website at the time that allowed you to make your own comics using stills from the books. Good job covering the iceberg and video 🔥🔥
This IS impressive for a goosebumps iceberg but I’d love to see you update it after reading some comments and doing more research! For the Disney attraction I’d look to Expedition Theme-park and Yesterworld. I’m pretty sure they have videos out on the subject. :)
The reason El Sidney is on the iceberg,is because he's an evil magician with "magic tricks" that are.. Pretty much disturbing. Like when after turning the good magician Amaz-O and our main protagonist Tim into rabbits,he uses them as baits for an execution magic trick, which could lead to their deaths. Yeah,I'm not even kidding.
Many countries have redesigned covers for dozens of the original books, it’s a fascinating rabbit hole to go down. You see all sorts of monsters interpreted in fascinating ways
Nah man! This video was lazy as hell! I do not know who it's meant for, since he doesn't really seem to have more than a passing interest in goosebumps and people who actually are familiar with the series will spend most of the video irritated by the lack of effort and just plain wrong descriptions. If it's an early video I think he'd appreciate the feedback maybe he'll end up making something watchable
The reason why Rocky and Zane are said to be in Bride of the Living Dummy is their decapited dummy heads appear in the episode of the book when Jimmy explains how Slappy kills his rivals implying he killed them out of revenge
Good video, I do want to mention that the whole Slappy is a pedo goes further than just the doll. In Bride of the Living Dummy he headbutts the main character and calls it a "love tap". This scene was removed in the 2018 reprint. Also I think the reason why The Girl Who Cried Monster was on the iceberg is that the monster originally ate children, but was changed to turtles in the book and to spiders in the episode.
I almost exclusively watch iceberg videos on my TV RU-vid account so I get to see so many lesser known channels and videos like this one. It’s so cool! Subscribed. I think you have lots of potential. Do what you like
I wish we had movies or a show based off of Christopher Pike books. R.L. Stine's YA (Fear Street) books and Christopher Pike's books are what got me into my love for reading.
I own the Slappy dummy and _Scary Summer_ comic (Got it at my old elementary school's book fair)! I too collect a piece of Topps merchandise: the _Garbage Pail Kids_ cards! Oh, and other Goosebumps books have regional covers, and _The Haunted Mask_ also has a Vietnamese cover, courtesy of Tidas Fair Supertramp.
I read most of the original books and bingewatched the series in Netflix. I also read the Goosebumps Horrorland books, which served like sequels were the monsters of the original books returned to torment a new set of characters and after beating the monsters the kids would always get a free ticket to Horrorland. Fun fact, Horrorland traumatized me so much that I havent gone to a theme park ever since😂
Rocky and Zane were Ventriloquist dummies last used from Night of the Living Dummy 3 episode. They were then later destroyed as props for Bride of the Living Dummy as exposition that Slappy killed those who opposed him, when in actuality, Slappy was killed by Rocky in Night of the Living Dummy 3.
The books are much darker. Which the new Disney series looks like it will be. Also looks like it will be one big universe not anthology which is great!
Tbh, I like the reprints where it just reuses the same image but just has a new border and gives the font a new 3d design, but I would understand the later reprints where it completely has a new cover and font design and ditches the border The goosebumps graphic novels i remember reading. The only ones i did manage to read completely was One day at Horrorland and A Shocker on Shock Street. Im not sure about Ghost Beach though. Funny thing is that i think those three stories were part of a 3 stories in one book I remember I think a few months or a year after the first movie came out rumors of the sequel started spreading that the second movie would have been centered around Horrorland. I think it was later confirmed that a movie focused on Horrorland was considered but was dropped I think when Sony got another director to work on the sequel I remembered hearing in another video that talks about the supposed unmade Night of the Living Dummy 1 episode where it's theorized that Slappy's design seen in the TV series was originally supposed to be for Mr. Wood considering they both have ginger hair but they decided to use it for Slappy's official design, while another theory just states that his red hair was just a reference to Mr. Wood
10:33 I thought it would be pricier. Whenever I think "expensive" I think somewhere north of $500. But maybe I'm biased since I like expensive stuff (V-Pets), that are usually priced on the 100~300 dollars range for less commonly known products but can easily reach the 2.5K or so dollars.
Yo your mic has some kind of ghosty echo. Remember to cut your audio and dont overlap the takes. Unless it was leaked in from the background music not sure.
This vid is well made and well thought out, but I recommend reading the books. The TV series has a special place in my heart with a lot of the episodes were amazing. But quite a few of them were ridiculous and could of been made better. The first movie was one of the best movies of its year (In my opinion and IMDb) The second one was trash. Comics are really good except for the Download and Die. Alas, I hate Harry Potter for taking over Goosebumps and I will continue to hate on Harry Potter till the day I die.
I do want to say that Harry Potter didn’t peak at all until like the 2000s. Bloomsbury the original publishing house was going to pull the series by book 3
The repressed homosexuality thing comes from the podcast (edit) Goosebuds, in one of their earlier episodes. The Buds continually make point about the father and (spoiler) His clone that he makes... and now I'm gonna listen to it again 😂
Don’t read the comic books. They are horrible. Also no, the haunted mask wasn’t the only one to get other covers, I’m pretty sure all of the OG 62 did. Also topps made a very popular series named garbage pail kids, and there was books based of garbage pail kids made by rl stine.
"download and die" is part of the idw official comics, is not fan made, anyway they are not worth the read, you are better off with the Just Beyond Comics by Stine himself, they are basically goosebumps in disguise
Have to say man, if you are going to do an iceberg video then please ACTUALLY research what you are "iceberging" and don't just throw one together for clicks. Lots of info is wrong and you even admit yourself you don't know alot of it..... so why make a video of "research" when you have basically done 0?
For the stay out of the basement thing I think the homosexual reference that you're trying to find could be wasn't the father found in the closet tied up the whole coming out of the closet crap
Goddamn I couldn’t even make it thru this video. If you’re not going to put effort into researching something or you just want a halfass it, don’t make an iceberg video on it. The errors are basically every other topic, if you even decide to talk about it. Spreading misinformation bc you feel like being lazy or want to sound cool for knowing “so much” yet barely having read any of the books or seeing the show just comes across as cocky and hurts the casual fans or newcomers who watch. Try harder next time. Or just don’t make another Goosebumps video
