Hey folks - thanks for watching! The full comparison footage pile should be up shortly, just waiting on my computer to finish struggling with getting it all rendered. If you're subscribed you'll get notified as soon as it goes live shortly! In the meantime, if you see smoke...it's just my computer!
@@Dcrainmaker I agree but for some people waterproof is not mandatory. And as I remember hero7 also looses waterproof with cable connected. Maybe some modular/"two click" door would be better idea?
Hey folks - thanks for watching! Oh - and if I'm talking a bit too fast - you can select the little Settings icon and choose .75 from Playback speed, it makes it normal-human speed! And finally, here's the full video of comparison footage - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RtXjoYw3iKg.html - Enjoy!
A HUGE Thumbs up! EVERY reviewer I've seen up till now posted their Hero 8 reviews today with sickening GLOWING reviews as to how PERFECT this Action Cam is, all the new software features are "simply amazing" and "astounding," plus the new body "couldn't have been made more perfect" as one reviewer put it. YOU, as usual, post a REAL review, extolling the true benefits to the upgrades, and actually posting a few NEGATIVES, plus render an opinion that most who have the Hero 7 may not need to upgrade to the Hero 8! BRILLIANT! My biggest concern will be regarding if the Hero 8 will have freezing issues like my Hero 7 does. Yours obviously didn't, otherwise, you would have told the truth. Time will tell regarding the mass-produced product. Again, thank you so much for a true, HONEST opinion! Will look forward to your next video!
you are the only guy talk about the fisheye and linear mode of the lens in goppro. none of them are not mentioned. so many guys tell they are review the units. i hope u done the job good. keep it up. thanks buddy.
I've just began interest and have ordered a HERO8. Just wanted to say your videos on these have really helped with understanding them and their features before I've even got it. You're brilliant at what you do. Subscribed!
Thanks buddy, as always a great review 🤘looks like this is aimed more towards the bloggers than the extreme sports market, I’m keeping the 7 black and waiting for the hero 9 😐
Thanks for the video. Is it possible to record in 4K / 60fps and the linear view? I thought I read that I could but it won't let me (it either reverts to 30fps or wide angle).
Thats a really good advice! Great video, but I was just about to turn it off because he talked waay to fast and with no breaks! This makes it watchable!
Appreciate your honest review. Most reviewers who get pre launch products fail to mention any cons. I am one of the three people in the world still using the Karma drone and grip, so I am disappointed, this is not compatible.
One reason I won't upgrade and I see this mainly as a software update and honestly if they wanted I'm sure it could go in the 7. I can see this will be a every 2-3 generation thing for me then.
I actually really like that they put those mounts down there. I always hated taking it in and out if frame. Both for changing batteries and for running it powered by taking off the door and back into the frame (as an establishing 2 shot for podcasts I shoot) which meant I could easily lose the door before or weaken the hinge taking it on and off so frequently so these are all welcome changes.
Yep, the mount on the body is a big plus for me. Always seemed silly to rave about it being waterproof but then still have to put it in a cage anyway to mount it on anything.
@@JaxsonNZ Profit of course, the dude that runs the company is all about how much cash he can get out of the company before DJI completely take all their business.
Ray. As a soon to be GoPro owner your reviews have been very helpful. First off, thanks. I watched the GP7 review prior to the 8. I like the 7 a little more than the 8 because of the ports. But again ... GREAT REVIEW OF THE PRODUCTS. I appreciate it a lot.
It's clear, GoPro is an accessory company now. Removing hardware (hdmi), delivering upgrades in the form of accessories. Will hang on to my GoPro 7 Black thank you. Hoping that DJI will want more customers and deliver a killer next year.
Every product dji makes is killer I just bought the dji ronin sc killer I'm about to get the osmo 3 as well. As for gopro they were awesome in the past cause it was new and it did the best the best job now their scrambling for ideas and the fad is gone
Great review as usual. Best one out there. I'm still unclear on the audio input. Will it take a 3.5 mm mic input without the mod? Or does it require that stupid little amplifier box?
the way it sounds, the Hero 7 is more of an action camera, especially with hypersmooth and removable lens on the front (amongst other things). with the new accessories, it sounds like the Hero 8, while it can be used for action, ie, mountain biking, skydiving, etc, it just sounds like it's more for vloging, traveling and the like.
Thank you for this video. The stabilization did get better. Hero 7 was good enough but this is better. In timewarp you didnt mention my favourite thing. The speed ramp option. That allows for seamless hyperlapse with normal speed moments. Pretty cool. And another new feature, even though small, is the grid that is now available. I just dont get it with gopro hasnt implemented it before or why they dont set it up on some firware update. Small thing but sometimes quite helpful. Cheers, will be waiting for the comparison footage.
best, thorough, and quick to the point review! i bought the Hero 7 last year all due thanks to you. i’m not intrigued by the Hero 8 overall aside from the hypersmooth and timewarp 2.0.
@Adam Clarke Well, the 7 was my first GoPro,so I'm not very reliable to compare with older models... I heard that the 5 and the 6 do the trick as well, but I got myself a 7 Black because of features like Live recording on social media and the quality of the footage. I wouldn't trade my 7 for a 8 because the trade in only grants me with 50 dollars of discount, but if I didn't have a GoPro right now,I wouldn't spare the difference the little diference between the 7 and the 8 prices and would go for the 8 probably
I am not an "action guy' and use Gopros for professional effects. I agree with everything your report said. I have just taken delivery of a Hero 8 and I love it, it has redesign issues, but what it can do far outweighs everything else. I will use it on location next week to get cutaways in a live broadcast. Its quality pictures and ability to be hidden will produce even more awesome shots that normal. The improved wifi will mean I can monitor the pictures better. Great report, and can't wait for the hero 9!
@@Jerome11491 Thanks for pointing it out. I just got the camera and was irritated by that. Of course doesn't work for water resistance, but could swap for easier use.
because they are small, and you can get them places that are impractical or impossible with DSLR's or even mirrorless. e.g. attached to a car for road trips, or placed in precarious areas where if it gets dropped/smashed it sucks your out $400, but way better than $4k for a dslr and lens. Or maybe a situation where there's a good chance it'll get wet. Jesus dude, use some imagination man, not everything is static landscape/astro timelapse.
Excellent review! It's a nice upgrade, but I expected more to be honest, especially now when GoPro is facing a serious competition in the face of DJI. I wanted a 1" sensor, a much improved low light performance and still images, so it can be not only a great action cam but a great travel camera too. In my opinion whoever between GoPro and DJI reaches that 1" sensor first, will win big.
Thank you for this. Some of the stuff I didn’t know about my new Hero 8 Black. I didn’t know the batteries were the same ahead of time. So now I have 12 batteries lmfao.
BIGGGG Thanks for such a great to the point video. I have Hero 7 but I am definitely going for that just because they make it a perfect vloging camera. Just one microphone on the front change the whole game for me.
i think also...i was on hero 4 silver before. I ll go for the Max cause I didn't have the fusion, this is a great upgrade. Hope they update the software.
Okay, just compared the battery runtime: DJI Osmo Action 4k/60fps = 63 minutes. GoPro Hero 8 = 47 minutes. Ouch, that's quite a huge difference. I think I need to do some more research before I pull the trigger. Like I have no idea if the Osmo Action runtime is realistic or just advertising... Hmm...
@@RichardsWorld waiting for that to make better outside movies, instead of those rigs custom built on internet, and that weird Mic adaptor from gopro. Finally a great accessorie i hope
I like the 8. I use it mostly on a Protek 35. I have a plastic case (type the covers the lens) with an open back mounted on the quad so I can just pop it open, take it out, charge batteries, pull the sd or do whatever. I don't have to worry about charging in the field because I have a spare battery, I can always put in another sd card, it's stabilization is good, it has never overheated, the picture quality is good enough and I don't need to run the footage from an app to stabilize. The only drawback, I have to push a button to record, that's a bummer. I also have different mounting hardware so I can put it on my head, on my RYFT rock bouncer, my rock crawler, I can clip it into my truck (Tacoma came with a GoPro mount to clip to), put it on a full size tripod or a mini tripod.
Check out the comparison footage video, I include both the new Night Lapse feature there, as well as further uploaded night footage in the Dropbox share.
I'm bummed about the combined USB/battery door. While battery on the side is nice, I typically use a USB feed (with molded plug to retain dust proofness) to provide external power for 3+ hour recording sessions. I don't see how that might work on this one with the exposed battery..
I have the same concern. I use my GoPro 5 for only one reason, to record my personal and group rides, mostly to monitor dangerous drivers and dogs, etc. A GoPro battery cannot last long enough for these rides. I attach a Jackery Mini 3350mAh Portable Charger through USB to get the battery life I must have. I need to know if I can still do this, or I will have to keep my GoPro 5 or look for some other camera.
I've noticed to not upgrade til probably the next few around the 9 or 10 then itll probably be worth a new one. If you're doing reviews like this then of course but if you're just using it this isnt a huge upgrade that would be extremely noticeable
One big downgrade they did with the 8, no removable lens so you can't use your ND filters from the 7 at all. The lens on the 8 is made as one whole piece with the body. Still smh 😒
Another great review - thanks. We will be upgrading our Hero7 to the Hero8 mainly for the media mod and the microphone, just a bit disappointed we need to wait until December!
@@ARMYRIFLES46 Nothing, the 8 is great but I've had my 7 for barely a year and use for for my hanggliding, paragliding, biking, paramotoring and everything else just fine for now. It's basically that for ME, with the 7 it's working great and I"m not upgrading from a 6 or 5 or 4...If i was, I'd go with the 8.
Josh Smith lol not at all. Apple puts out an update with each new iPhone so if you don’t get the new phone you still get the new OS. If you want faster processor or newer camera you buy the new phone.
@Corality hero 8 has the same sensor and processor as hero 7. Stabilization is EIS so it relies on software to make the video stable. Hero 8 has the same internal hardware as the hero 7. It is totally easy for hero 7 to get all these software updates, but i doubt go pro will want that. I expect no further improvements on hero 7 since hero 8 is announced.
I appreciate the video DC Rainmaker. With the addition of those mods content creators can do even smoother on the go videos. I'm glad because now I'll finally able to stop using my phone.
minor suggestion, maybe point to what you're clicking with one of those stylists? very good info, but very fast and sometimes hard to see what your clicking (as a newbie to this camera)
Love your stuff but I think it got this video set to highspeed! I can't keep up! I know you want to include as much content as possible but I'd rather it take an extra minute so I can keep up.
Idk man . I travel and do a lot of “action” things ; but for activities other than water, I find myself grabbing my iPhone, especially the new 11pro with awesome video quality. My GoPro is basically my Diving camera, or if I’m moving so much I can’t hold a phone.
Great review! Although the Hero 8 has some good points in design and software, still it is an upgrade if you’re coming from a hero 4 or lower. Otherwise, hold on to your Hero 7/6/5/2018. 🤨 just my 2cents here
what I want from gopro !!! 1. stop hanging at the most inopportune moments. 2. A program for editing video on the phone. (Not quick!) 3. Possiblity to upload videos in good quality on RU-vid
Oh, I'm one of those five people still flying the Karma drone. I still run with a Hero 6 in a Karma Grip as well, so I'm curious how the Hero 8's hypersmooth 2.0 compares to the gimbal's stabilization while running. Great info on the Hero 8; you're the first person I go to when it comes to new tech.
Wow, so, more a downgrade than an upgrade, this is crazy. What about external audio? They still haven't fixed that? We still need this bulky expensive audio adapter "box"? Atfer 8 years engineering an action camera they couldn't come up with a good external audio solution? This is really terrible. I have one Hero 7 already so I guess the next one will be another Hero 7. What a disappointment ... :(
Upgrade vs downgrade depends a bit on what you use. I think their solution here is the $79 accessory mode that gives you a clean and powered 3.5mm port. I'd prefer that be inbox, but...that's just me.
@@BenalRida If you're talking adding an accessory, then in the case of the Hero 8, there's the new "GoPro Hero 8 Media Mod" accessory, which wraps around the case a bit and adds a 3.5mm port, an HDMI port, a USB-C port, and two hot-shoe adapters. It costs $79, but won't be available till December. Or, you can use the super clunky Hero 5/6/7 USB-C 3.5mm adapter that we all hate. :(
@@gawnsbg the warranty it's good but why waste time sending a camera back when in less than 5 minutes you can swap the lens and be done with it? Makes absolutely no sense at all.
@@makatron yep. Say you're mountain biking and the lens gets cracked... your whole shoot is over. With my 7, just pull out a spare, replace and boom...back to shooting.
