GoPro Hero 9: Won't Charge or Turn On? 7 Easy Fixes! 

If you do have an issue, like he explains in the video. Plug the gopro in WITHOUT the battery and turn the camera on, then what I did was when the camera was on and running I then put the battery in the camera and my battery started to charge. I turned the camera off while everything was charging and boom my red light came on and I was able to charge both my batteries! Good luck to you all!!!

Thank you so much that was great. I had a completely black screen with no red light no charging. What worked best for me was removing the SD card and battery then power cycling it on with it plugged in. After it recognized USB I inserted the battery and SD card and everything is back in order, thank you so much.

Great video. Thanks mate it worked like a charm and the GoPro is now charging. I tried it with a different cable into a different USB socket and when I tried the battery remove/reinsert trick it started charging.

Yes without the battery in the Go Pro hero 9 eventually turned on thank you for a useful video. Just make sure you are charging something where it can be fully charged.

Little additen for me. Haven't used my gopro for quite a while, and it instantly turned on plugged in without a batery, but with battery in no chance. So tuned it on without battery put in the battery now its charging and hopfully will fix my issue.

Thanks man! I think my battery went completely empty and was unable to be charged up. I unplugged the battery and turned on the camera while on cable and the camera turned on. Then I reinserted the battery and the battery worked again!

I have 2 Hero 8 cameras. One is real old and has never had any issues. The brand new hero 8 is really messed up. I contacted gopro support and they said that after market batteries were the issue. I have tried everything in your video and no luck. As a matter of fact I have tried several times and just get no results. It's strange because if I let the camera sit for several days it will sometimes turn on. It's an awesome little camera when it works. Honestly I would probably not buy another hero 8 mainly for this problem. I also have a Hero 9 and off brand batteries have never been an issue. The only thing I don't like about the 9 is that it is so much larger than the 8 and basically just cost more and the extra features are not anything I need.

POSSIBLE SOLUTION: So I have watched every video on RU-vid with no luck.. I follow the steps exactly and nothing! I have a hero 7 that wouldn’t turn on. Like I previously said I’ve done everything I could find online, I have 5 hero 7’s and this is the only one that wouldn’t turn on, I’ve tried other charging cables, I’ve tried switching batteries NOTHING!! BUT ITS FIXED! And here’s what I did, I removed the battery, removed the flash card, reinstalled the battery, (did not put the card back in) and plugged in the charging cable in my Apple 2a wall charger. 20min later I hit the mode button to see if it turns on and the sucker turned on! This hero 7 hasn’t worked in almost a year!! And now it’s as good as new. If you are experiencing the same problem and the 10 second button hold doesn’t work try what I did!!

Im turn off card and gopro start run. But when card is in i can turn on camera. Why? And how do it normal i cant make movie without SD card

None of the steps worked until I took the battery out, started it without battery, then slide the battery back in while it was still plugged. It showed a notification of charging the battery. I will check to see if the battery holds a charge. This thing is 2 weeks old I'm having this much trouble which isn't good.

None of these tips worked for me. Mine is gopro hero 6 black. While Charging without the battery the camera is getting hotter , while inserting battery , sd card , charger no red lights turning on , tried different cables also any idea what's the problem?

Just got GoPro9, didn't even remove front plastic cover....I use it, for maybe, one charge and it won't turn on....luckily I try "30sec hold power on button" and now it is charging. Wonder what battery supplier is...

Hey I am having problems with my iPad 11 pro. That there is this one video that I transferred it from usb to files and when I deleted it from the files it showed up in photos and when I delete it from there even from recently deleted it comes back to photos itself with multiple of copies of it, it happens everytime I delete that video, I wanna get rid of that video permanently.please can you help me with this

The step of removing the SD card and holding the power button worked for me. However, after the device turns on I insert the SD card and it says "SD card is busy" and doesn't recognize any of the content on the card. So, I powered it off and it won't come back on. If you do the initial steps of removing the SD card and holding the power it will turn on again, but it seems to not want to turn on with the SD card inserted. It seems like the SD card is the issue in this case. Perhaps this'll help someone else.

It feels like the battery is too loose in there. But, I think the trick that worked was taking out the SD card. Of course, it did say SD card error afterwards and to reformat it.

My battery is having a tough time charging all the way to 100%. It charges to 86% and the red solid light is on the back and the front of the camera. I thought it might be the brick charger or the cable from my Ipad pro-2020, but then I connected it to my S20 Ultra wall charger (both USB-C's), and still the same. Finally, I took my SD card out from my Hero 9 (128 Gb SanDisk Extreme plus purchased from SanDisk and formatted on the hero 9) and it started to charge past 88% but is still struggling. The red light has not become intermittent instead of being solid on both the front and the back, what gives?

Any tips for this...My GoPro powers on but only the front screen. After a few seconds, it shows a 9 hero on the front screen and I can't do anything else with the GoPro. Neither button works. Any ideas? I tried all your tricks in this video. Nothing. It is brand new.

I just Bought my camera Yesterday at Best Buy and now the 2nd day its not charging? I did all the test here But No Luck ,might have to return this Garbage and get the 8 ,I upgraded to 9 because I lost my 8 it was a great camera .

Brand new GoPro, I charged the battery once but now it won't do it anymore.

This does not impress me for a new camera. I have a Hero 3 Silver and a Hero 7 Black. I never had this issue with either camera. It does not look like I'll be getting a Hero 9. Seems like a problem child to me. I did have an issue with the optional remote freezing. It was on and could not be turned off and none of the functions worked. Once the battery went completely dead and I recharged it....it worked. I did not like that so it was returned. It was only two days old. Barry

I purchased a Hero 8 GoPro 6months ago(as of today)... then purchased the mod and a case for it...it was a lot of money fokes! my camera only lasted 3 months few videos made with it...and i wont turn on.... not even the red light will come on....lifeless! I rushed to Best Buy and told them about it but I didn't buy their insurance so I lost my money basically... so they recommended me to buy another one hahah,,,, they told me to buy the HERO 9 instead to avoid this problem from happening so I did.... again a lot of money for this equipment folks!!!...and not to mention, I would not be able to use the case or the mod I had previously purchased :(.... well guess what, is not even 1 month that I purchased the new HERO 9 and its lifeless just like the HERO 8 ...OMG!!, so I saw this video and decided to give it a try.... it brought my HERO9!! Jeez!! I tried this with my HERO 8 to see if it would help ....and now it only beeps....but the screen still black and the light wont come on. it only beeps!!.....now come to think for a moment... within a 6 month timeframe, I purchased HERO 8, Camera MOD, the case, and also 2 extra batteries with a charger, also purchased HERO 9 .... how much money have I spent in these products and I am having issues with it.... is it worth it?? ......I also purchased a Nikon camera 5 years ago that costs me much less than all of this and it still kicking.... Anyways, I just think a new equipment should NOT be giving all this problem ..... I personally believe this new HEROS are VERY DEFECTIVE!! DON'T BUY THEM!!!!!! Waste of money!!!!!

In my case, the battery was apparently so drained that the camera gave no sign of life for the first 10 seconds or so of charging. Only after that period of time did the signal lights turn red.

Thanks. It worked. I thought I was paying $400 for a nice cam, turns out it has the engineering of an 80s Nintendo. If that vid didn't work for you, I would add blowing in the slot and banging on it before gently pressing the power button.

There should be a big obvious to see GoPro troubleshooting page that comes with every go pro to tell you how to reset. It worked for me perfectly

Thank you for this, took me to about the 4th tip to get it charging again and it was completely dead and was fully charged a few weeks ago, but I think storing with the media mod on may have somehow caused it to drain, I don't know for sure.

Didn’t work for me gopro 11 . Red lights is on bt not turning on the camera . Before 2 or 3 days it started turning off her self for every 1 minute during my vlog. I changed the duration 1 to Never ! Needs to update or something else?

Pressing & holding power & mode for 10 seconds. Only gave me a red light on the front of the display. Not sure what this means, still no image.

I am so disappointed to see that so many Go Pro Hero 9s have this issue. I bought mine the other day and the red light turned on but it would never turn off to indicate a full charge.

If have this issue and all this is not working for you, Tru to change the cable. I tried a 3 usb cables and all of them didn't work it was the 4th one that worked.

I did the steps repeatedly. No avail. Then I did it with the USB plugged in and the SD card . No luck . The first time at least. Then I pulled the battery out numerous times (while plugged into USB wall charger)

Running the camera without batter and card and directly with charging cable worked for me
