No real reason unless there is traffic. Plus, its in the dead of night. Would you like to be woken up by a truck going by with a peaked Q and blasting airhorns or be left to sleep with the truck going by with just reds and a bip of the airhorn or quick whirr of the siren to warn the little traffic that might be out?

No traffic + Night + Not at intersection = No siren Traffic + Night = Minimal use to move traffic Night + Intersection w/ no traffic = No siren Night + Intersection W/traffic = Minimal to stop/move traffic It sucks and if you break it, city council/code enforcement - not PD - gives noise ordinance citation to all personnel assigned to apparatus.
