Gorden Tallis Pays Tribute To His Late Father | The Fan 

Being a New South Welshman I grew up hating Gorden Tallis, my old man couldn't stand him. We both went to a Raiders-Broncos game in Canberra and met the players after the game. Many players knocked back signatures and went straight for their cars. Gorden wearing a suit was an absolute champion to all the kids and even played a game of footy with us in the car park. My Dad and I have been fans of him since. His old man has definitely passed on his humbleness to him. Fair play to the man.

My daughter and I met Gordon at a cafe in sydney QVB what a lovely bloke he is. Took the time to talk to us and didn’t blow us off. All class! His parents raised him well.

My Grandfather use to drink with Wally Tallis at the Commonwealth Hotel in Sth Townsville back in the day.. Now -- like most white men born in the first half of this century, my grandfather was as racist as fk. But, he drank with Wally every Friday night and would never tolerate a hard word said against him, racial or otherwise. That always stuck with me and was a true testament as to what Wally's character might have been.. The day came later in life when I met Wally, and he was every bit the consummate gentleman as id imagined him to be! RIP Wally..

Heard a story, from a witness, supposedly. Gordy was having a quiet beer with a mate at a watering hole and was being heckled by 3 so called tough guys. Gordy took it all, without saying anything. The heckling turned to abuse with a bit of swearing. One called Gordy out, Gordy said Ok, come outside and I'll fight all 3 of you one at a time though, they laughed finished their beers in a hurry and left. Patrons in the pub cheered

I wasn't a fan of Tallis. But since watching a lot of the Matty Johns show, he has grown on me. I like him now. Seems like a humble decent bloke
