So it's a great bridge --- badly needed to serve as a major transportation link. But why didn't they include a separate deck for a light rail line to move passengers between Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan? It seems likely that this corridor will grow rapidly in the future and needs both rail and road as people movers.
I see (2) hockey sticks (glove taped ends - not blade ends) resting together to form the top of the two main support piers, one pier on each side of the river bank
Good to see this large project taking place. Moving back home from Alabama it's nice to see something getting done. Cause over there was Construction everywhere and that's all I got used to
Wow this is gonna be huuuge for Windsor and Detroit as people/businesses start finding ways to take advantage of the cheaper land out that way to develop.
Actually the new bridge isn’t that close to downtown and most of the traffic will be trucks heading south out of Detroit. The tunnel has been the main tourist crossing.
@@cheapme1850 That's because most of us don't trust the bridge with how poorly it's maintained by the "moron" family as we call them here, the other advantage of the howe bridge is it's connected right to the 401, Straight into Sandwich/Amherstburg and across, Hopefully this will help the parking lot that is Huron church Rd (current approach to the Ambassador)
@@braydons5623 If you ever get a chance to go on the river, you should see how bad it looks from underneath. The new bridge can't come soon enough - I wonder how the old one will fare with even less maintenance once the revenue drops.
@@cheapme1850 Hopefully both governments will make it mandatory for them to build a new span tear it down... It's an icon to our skyline but an international crossing should NEVER have been privatized, total stupidity.
I've talked to some of the people involved with this bridge and was informed that the group involved with this is having the Ambassador bridge closed when it's finished.
The Ambassador Bridge is privately owned so that seems unlikely. Having said that, the Ambassador is certainly showing its age and one wonders how much longer it can be used. And once the Gordie Howe is open, it will connect directly to the 401 which means there would be little reason to use the Ambassador unless you were starting your trip from within Windsor itself.
Thanks, we are busy driving & updating ALL of Detroit, within time & budget means! There are many great drone videos of this site available on You Tube, we include links in the description. We are the messengers of Detroit's Comeback overall.
Anybody who thinks that this government boondoggle is going to aid Detroit is seriously misinformed. There is already an enormous amount of excess crossing capacity at both the Ambassador Bridge and Windsor tunnel. The 2021 crossing numbers were down 43% at the Ambassador and 71% at the tunnel compared to 2018, thanks to the Covid episode.
The benefits are much more evident on the Canadian side where this will connect directly to the 401. Traffic will no longer be held up on Windsor streets (with congestion or from anyone who wants to blockade them)
