The original British version (hosted by Nicholas Parsons from 1972 to 1983) was also based on the original Kelly & Garagiola version. When "Sale" was briefly revived in 1989/1990 for SkyOne, it used the Australian format.
@@zacheryalderton4643 He died on 11 December 2017 of the lung disease idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. In a 2001 interview, Chegwin said he smoked 60 cigarettes a day and was a recovering alcoholic.
Ah yes the former TVS Studios in Maidstone, a shame that TVS lost their franchise in 1991 and closed on New Years Day in 1993. That's when Family Channel - followed by Challenge TV came and this was an Exclusive Challenge TV show.
It's too bad this version ended up being so cheap. From what I understand, the version that was on around the start of the 90s resembled versions aired in Australia and a few other countries. I haven't seen too much of that version myself, but there was a contestant on there at one time named Simon Cowell. You've probably heard of him.
It's funny how the host Keith Chegwin brings up sunbaking with no clothes on when three years later, he would appear nude hosting a show called Naked Jungle.
No, this version was really cheap! No prize money and I didn't actually get the board games! They gave me the cash equivalent instead which worked out better!
At least your recent revival of "Sale" was better than what we got in the States. "Temptation: The New Sale of the Century", as it was called, as absolute rubbish. Actually, rubbish is too nice a word for it. Bad host, bad announcer, gameplay that rips off from other game shows, prizes that often lean towards the feminine demographic, unnecessary caps, and non-existent consolation prizes (if they don't announce it on the actual show, I don't count it as a consolation prize).
